Cool Bird ID Chart
Ever wonder what the heck kind of bird that was you just saw? You don't have to buy the poster in order to scroll the graphic at high resolution. Click and roll over.
Ruby's dominate Keys to Maine and almost to the Mississippi. But you have several in the second tier. Here in the West we have a half dozen that aggressively compete. Lots of Allen's for now but others are overlapping.
Fly's and mosquitoes are the most popular here. We had tons of birds till the mess and squirrels got so bad we had to get rid of the bird feeders. Still get some of the bigger birds.
The other day. I dragged the laundry hamper of worn clothes out to the the the thing that gets them wet next to the thing that gets them dry again. I'm sure you know whatever they are called. Mrs Dawg near had a heart attack.
we've got a combo(all-in-one) washer/dryer (LG)...pretty cool technology..each load takes longer though (about 3 hours)...no transferring between washer and dryer though
110v and 120v are basically the same power demand. I have a combo unit in the motorhome and it drys very slow. Most home free standing dryers are 220v and dry faster.
GM's Opel, Vauxall sale is complete. No more GM EU sales. I bet we see China, Mexico produced cars filling the gap in the GM line. UAW still going down hill as it can't change it's extortion model.
Poverty is being imported as they continue to lose ground in the modern manufacturing market. The good guy, bad guy game has changed, they haven't. Where is the union representation in the tech field and why not?
I do not want to hear any more about high temperatures. Moving the baby bird to college at the end of the week. 106° expected. Perfect for moving matresses and dressers.
probably a business opportunity buried in there somewhere. Send a text message when you get five mins from the dorms and two strong guys (or gals) meet you at your car and do the heavy lifting for you.
from both a $ spent and chance to learn at my pace perspective. I learned more math in one semester of college algebra than in my entire time in grade school.
Uh oh. One of the articles on a financial blog said that there was room to grow. They say stuff like that when collapse is nigh. But maybe another year. . .
NASA is advertising for an Alien Protection Engineer. I knew immediately what the job entailed but the popular press has been having fun with it.
Basically you don't want to introduce earth organics to places like Titan or Europa. at the same time you don't want to bring back any nasties in returning samples.
Back to the CC conversation. I went to a satellite campus of a four-year school that was the equivalent of a JC. For first two years had the best instructors that I encountered until grad school.
When my group moved to the main campus for the Jr and Sr years we arrived much better prepared in Math and Physics than those who who took those courses at that campus.
Son was happy with his junior college Daughter went to u of Florida at gainesville. Hapy there. The, ta, dah MIT next whoo, whoo. What am I learning that I didn't learn before.
Nothing, except didn't associate with really Rich kids.
The US Bureau of Economic Analysis has this week undertaken some revisions of the US saving ratio (SR). Actually it has revised both income (downward) and expenditure (upward). And as the SR is the difference between these two very large numbers, it can be severely affected by small changes in income or spending. The new data shows the US SR actually declined from 6% to 4% through 2016 (see chart below) and undoubtedly stopped the US economy sliding into recession in the second half of last year as real household incomes suffered a severe squeeze due to rising headline CPI inflation. -----
That's both large, troubling and a huge "I told you so."
While 20% "savings" would be nice I'm more of the 25% of after tax income not spent. It doesn't need to go in savings if it is paying down an income property mortgage for but one example.
I know some middle class people so this is second hand but the idea is to accumulate resources of varying degree of liquidity and risk and exposure. Once you have a few months ready cash for emergencies it isn't any advantage to keep adding to traditional savings. If your car is an old gas hog needing repairs then buying a new vehicle that saves gas and upkeep isn't really "spending" even though that's how it is counted. It eventually becomes a resource you can tap if necessary and pays you to own it in the meantime.
Knew the wife wanted to go to grad school so I paid off both cars and threw a years (now lower with no car loan) expenses under the mattress. I make enough to break even on 1 income, but saving takes more. Three years from now we can double down on saving to make up for lost time. She calls school expensive and thinks she is mooching off my income, I call it an investment.
My point is you have to save (Paddle hard) to catch a free ride on the wave. Once you are there then the whole scene changes. I do a cash assets sheet and keep a guesstiment of hard assets, RRE now days. What ever way you slice it it becomes a saved asset.
Did I mention one of my renters volunteered for a rent increase because the market is so tight and he knew I didn't like to raise rates unless necessary? Looks like we can cut back on the hamburger helper a bit.
You also think I'm rich so it might just be a similar misunderstanding. I think what happened was he looked for greener pastures and discovered I was granting such generous terms that he didn't want to find himself facing market prices.
Turtles are tasty. I have eaten turtle soup. But these are endangered tortoises, and they are cute, and even when they threaten to eat my house, I just move them back to the woods. Other people save them from being road kill.
Roomba is the 90% solution that makes the 10% remaining tolerable. The only caveat is when you get one it will find embarrassing amounts and need frequent cleaning but get past that and with routine use turns into a validation of your housekeeping skills.
Leaves. Why am I critical? Our garage has never been cleaned. But it has a hurricane door. Trump has been outclassed in awfulness for the day. There was a downburst over the Cocoa Beach Pier. Most of the roof peeled off, with other damage. A couple of people got hurt. Winds 50 to 60 mph. Really it should have endured 75 or so. A warning. It had been repaired relatively recently.
Fall weather in August, 78F today. the pool has been to cold to use between the cold rain and cool weather. Need to build a pool heater for next year. Redneck idea coming to me, electric water heater!
T or O they are getting extreme. T is much better, Congress not so much.
My small solar works good as long as the sun shines and it stays warm. Need something when it won't keep up or first fill. I have an electric water heater still good but replaced after a remodel and element heats real well on 110v so that will be the project next spring.
It's a different work world. I am designing a pedal power canoe for the fun of it. Will probably build it. Thing is 20 years ago I would have needed six assistants from draftsman to procurement and shop manager. Instead I'll order all the stuff from the net off my own plans. It will show up and all I'll need is some hands to help me mix and spread the epoxy for the shell.
" Thing is 20 years ago I would have needed six assistants from draftsman to procurement and shop manager."
The fun part of repurposing is lots of the work is done already but your creative side gets to put the pieces together. Sure I could go buy what I want but not as near as much fun.
Rob, we have a guy that bikes in one of those fiberglass frames. It's bright yellow and looks like a banana or a twinkie going down the road. Makes quite the statement.
One of my "guilty pleasures" is reading the weekly crime log/police blotter in the local "paper" (actually online version). I'm thinking the local police must be using facial recognition cameras/technology in their patrol cars..because I've noticed an awful lot of the entries lately are picking up people they have "recognized" as being wanted for outstanding warrants..many times for cities/communities far away from ours.
The hub, not being perfect, likes to watch Shark Tank. The first gut was pitching. . . . Wait for it. . . . . CAT WINE!!!!! And. . . . . One of the shark took him up on it . . . And the cat he brought didn't drink any of the stuff. . . Being a cat and all. Hahahahaha
Trump watches 5 hours of tv a day I guess that's good. Think of what he'd be doing otherwise. Ok with me if he raises the standard deduction if he matches it with tax icreases on the rich.
Back to the cat theme/meme. A local yoga studio is offering "meowga". With adoptable SPCA cats. No, they don't twist them into funny shapes. The people do yoga and the cat's wander around interfering, as they do. There are volunteers with adoption papers right there. This is truly through Year of The Cat.
Low 80's, here pool warming up finally. Visiting friends and shopping in town.
Locals officials claiming tens of thousands will land here to see the eclipse and warn of shortages due to the crowds. I am kind of doubtful that many are interested to see the full eclipse. How knows I will watch from home anyway and avoid town for a day or two.
If you want to fight with others then there are some other blogs. I am happy here. Thanks Rob
Good morning.😀. I'm all achy today. Had a weird dream about eating we'd Jane's food at a Japanese person's house. Had a fight to eat a live animal like a cross between a wild boar and a lobster.
Late start, no day off but the weather is like fall. High 70's to low 70's later this week before warming back up. Cool enough to try jet ski fishing again.
Recovering from hamstring and tendon reattachment surgery. Do not play softball if you are 61, and even of you do make sure you insist on a pinch runner. Going to be laid up for 2 weeks, then 4 months until semi normal. It sucks.

Would like to see more humming birds.
ReplyDeleteI have been told that the East Coast has only one hummingbird, the ruby throat. Is that not correct?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I've only seen a few. I have seen more butterfies, after planting butterfly plants
DeleteRuby's dominate Keys to Maine and almost to the Mississippi. But you have several in the second tier. Here in the West we have a half dozen that aggressively compete. Lots of Allen's for now but others are overlapping.
ReplyDeleteBlack chinned and ruby throat are the two major types in Tx.
ReplyDeleteFly's and mosquitoes are the most popular here. We had tons of birds till the mess and squirrels got so bad we had to get rid of the bird feeders. Still get some of the bigger birds.
ReplyDeleteKeep feeding the squirrels... That might be your foodstuff in the next downturn
ReplyDeleteToo soon Cinco. Squirrel jokes after the market crash not before.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest is returning to the Left Coast tonight. The putative supervising adults came back today. Trust.
T-Minus 6 days until empty nest. Mrs Dawg is not prepared. I am in fear of my failings due to this event.
Now is the time to prepare
DeleteI remember hcn squirrel recipes.
ReplyDeleteTanta. 😫
ReplyDeleteIn a heaven where everybody really qualfies.
ReplyDeleteThe other day. I dragged the laundry hamper of worn clothes out to the the the thing that gets them wet next to the thing that gets them dry again. I'm sure you know whatever they are called. Mrs Dawg near had a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteThe Thing that gets them wet. The new designs do little more the swish them around in less water. Minimal clean is PC. :(
ReplyDeletewe've got a combo(all-in-one) washer/dryer (LG)...pretty cool technology..each load takes longer though (about 3 hours)...no transferring between washer and dryer though
ReplyDeleteErrr, what, exactly made her mad? Not knowing their names?
ReplyDeleteTheir names are Mary and Tiffany.
ReplyDeleteTheir names are Mary and Tiffany.
DeleteTMI
Or. . . This is the first time you used them?
ReplyDeleteYou put the bright pink things in the wet thing together with the formerly pure white things?
ReplyDeleteIs the combo washer dryer 110V or 220V?
ReplyDeleteNobody has mention getting there 22000 hats yet.
ReplyDeleteHasn't hit 22K yet. Currently the futures are up a happy 42 points.
ReplyDeleteBut close, very close.
ReplyDeleteThe hub was cleaning out a gutter, and the ladder collapsed. He has 4 stiches in his arm and a tetanus shot and now feels pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteCould've been worse... Like a 14-18' fall with a crushed hand, a broken arm, a broken sternum and a serious concussion
DeleteI had a good fall the other day and didn't break any bones. I guess after all the treatments they are brittle yet. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen my grandma hit 87 we put our foot down. No more painting the houses above the windows on the second floor.
ReplyDeletePlenty of time ahead to sit around, for now I may be slow but go till she blows!
ReplyDeleteOh, cool. It looks like I will be losing my health insurance...again.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Obama.
Is the combo washer dryer 110V or 220V?
ReplyDeletethe spec sheet at Bestbuy.com says 120V (???).
110v and 120v are basically the same power demand. I have a combo unit in the motorhome and it drys very slow. Most home free standing dryers are 220v and dry faster.
ReplyDeleteToday is achy day, and I'm not the one who fell.

ReplyDeleteGM's Opel, Vauxall sale is complete. No more GM EU sales. I bet we see China, Mexico produced cars filling the gap in the GM line. UAW still going down hill as it can't change it's extortion model.

ReplyDeletegreat way to meet the cute girls moving in also...
ReplyDelete(why wasn't I this smart back in my youth!!)
My kid is ready to rip the throat of the next troglodyte who asks if she is a model.
ReplyDeleteAgreed however. We sure were dumb.
Here in the outback we don't have Uber we call Goober instead.
ReplyDeleteyeah for the really pretty ones..."Are you a rocket scientist??" would probably be a better strategy.. ;<)
ReplyDeleteThe hub used to have a button that said, why yes, I am a rocket scientist
Delete"Not me. At least not yet but my dad is a rocket scientist and he played rugby too. He warned me about you."
ReplyDeleteThe kid needs a year in a small pond regardless.
Smaht...

Initial claims 240,000. Boring. The massive revision to savings rate however...
ReplyDeleteOk, what is the revision??
ReplyDeleteI find personal savings continue to drop down to 2005 depression lows at 3.8% I personally feel 20% of your pretax income should be saved.
ReplyDeleteThe US Bureau of Economic Analysis has this week undertaken some revisions of the US saving ratio (SR).
ReplyDelete-----
That's both large, troubling and a huge "I told you so."
I really don't understand this.
DeleteWhile 20% "savings" would be nice I'm more of the 25% of after tax income not spent. It doesn't need to go in savings if it is paying down an income property mortgage for but one example.
ReplyDeleteI know some middle class people so this is second hand but the idea is to accumulate resources of varying degree of liquidity and risk and exposure.
ReplyDeleteBeing rich yourself.
DeleteKnew the wife wanted to go to grad school so I paid off both cars and threw a years (now lower with no car loan) expenses under the mattress. I make enough to break even on 1 income, but saving takes more. Three years from now we can double down on saving to make up for lost time. She calls school expensive and thinks she is mooching off my income, I call it an investment.
ReplyDeleteMy point is you have to save (Paddle hard) to catch a free ride on the wave. Once you are there then the whole scene changes. I do a cash assets sheet and keep a guesstiment of hard assets, RRE now days. What ever way you slice it it becomes a saved asset.
ReplyDeleteMy clients never saved any thing, ever if they made good money.
DeleteMore turtles A small one on the lawn, another small walking by the and a big one marching on the lawn across.
ReplyDeleteEndangered? Mostly being squashed by cars.

DeleteHouse.
ReplyDeleteThat's why they needed you.
ReplyDeleteThat's why they ended up as your clients.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing 10lbs of 'maters for spaghetti sauce this morning. Almost time to start picking the cluster tiny tomatoes.
:fist_of_fury: Pico/Attosec!
ReplyDeleteDid I mention one of my renters volunteered for a rent increase because the market is so tight and he knew I didn't like to raise rates unless necessary? Looks like we can cut back on the hamburger helper a bit.
ReplyDeleteHe thus limited the amount to be raised. And kept the ability to live there
DeleteBoy, am I cynical
You also think I'm rich so it might just be a similar misunderstanding. I think what happened was he looked for greener pastures and discovered I was granting such generous terms that he didn't want to find himself facing market prices.
DeleteAnd in the dead of night put them in your lawn.
ReplyDeletesounds like everyone wins. You keep a happy renter in a property that already cash flows (I assume) and they don't have to move.
ReplyDeleteMy standard is that the income property cash flows before taxes. A rare instance these days.
ReplyDeleteTurtles and hamburger helper.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm.
Turtles are tasty. I have eaten turtle soup. But these are endangered tortoises, and they are cute, and even when they threaten to eat my house, I just move them back to the woods. Other people save them from being road kill.

ReplyDeleteMe. Does well with cat hair which is worse I think. I use it several times a week

T or O they are getting extreme. T is much better, Congress not so much.
Use solar. It'll warm water even on a cooler, partly cloudy day, since it works with the longer wavelengths as well as the visible
DeleteI have one. It is very efficient. Helped with my sciatica last year.
DeleteAbsolutely horrible jobs report. Still going over the details but clearly the worst in a long time.
ReplyDeleteBloom claims mostly restaurant and medical. Both part time or low hours, still down matching YOY.

Deletewoke up the other night and looked out the window..the moon (full) was a bright orange from all the smoke in the air..pretty cool
ReplyDeleteMike, you're in Washington State, right?
ReplyDeleteI heard from a friend up there that a lot of smoke was blowing south from fires in Canada....
yeah we're getting a lot of smoke from the BC fires. Thursday & Fri were pretty bad*..but better today with a decent breeze blowing.
ReplyDelete* "bad" meaning like a typical summer day in inland LA.. ;<)
Good night every body, especially Rob Dawg.
ReplyDeleteGood morning.😀.
ReplyDeleteI'm all achy today. Had a weird dream about eating we'd Jane's food at a Japanese person's house. Had a fight to eat a live animal like a cross between a wild boar and a lobster.
Weird Japanes food.
ReplyDeleteCurse you spellcheck.
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteLate start, no day off but the weather is like fall. High 70's to low 70's later this week before warming back up. Cool enough to try jet ski fishing again.
90°, feels like 103°. Ugh. At least the lawn is green.
ReplyDeleteHub still very tired, prolly due to what he and doc decided that it was a concussion caused by falling off the breaking ladder.
Putting cap blocks on the retaining walls. 60 of them @ 45# each. Love my skid steer!
ReplyDeleteTouchdown back at the Dawghaus. Empty nest. The kittehs are unhappy with these periodic staff reductions.
ReplyDeleteClearly, they need a maid.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they would let you borrow the maid from time to time.
ReplyDeleteRecovering from hamstring and tendon reattachment surgery. Do not play softball if you are 61, and even of you do make sure you insist on a pinch runner. Going to be laid up for 2 weeks, then 4 months until semi normal. It sucks.
ReplyDeleteOuch... Work hard at the recovery. Past your mid 50s it's entirely possible to never recover it you don't really work hard at it...
DeleteOuch! Sorry to hear that. Getting older has it's advantages and disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteLaid 30 Cap blocks 30 more tomorrow. Next on the list is try bike riding, It's been a long time since I rode.
Consider a stationary bike. It's harder to fall off, and there's no traffic to deal with
DeleteEmpty nest.
ReplyDeletefirst week of August is kind of early to check-in for fall semester..I'm kind of surprised she can even get into the dorms at this point..
