Wishing
everyone a solemn Alban Arthan as we honor the souls of the trees we
sacrifice then deify in our living rooms. Hang the revered kerm-oak,
drink the blessed wassail. "Yule" feel so much better. The Norse had the
right idea taking 12 days for Jole.
Oh
and for all you recent religion adoptees a translation: Christmas,
Christmas Trees, holly, sacramental wine and the 12 days of Christmas
Changing the name makes little difference.
Edit to add Finnish Santa goat tradition:
First.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter y'all
DeleteI think there are a lot of tree souls to appease for the excessive numbers of sapiens who have invaded and destroyed their habitat, and do not bother to keep it up.
ReplyDeleteTop predators have responsibilities too.
Wise words Liz. The true meaning of Conservative.
ReplyDeleteThe exact moment of the Solstice this year is 11:28AM Eastern.
That hole in the middle of the Thomas fire keeps getting smaller.
ReplyDeleteNot to worry. That is the setting of backfires.

ReplyDeleteGoats. Don't see a relationship to paganism or Christianity.
ReplyDeleteWhy not ravens?
Or a pair of eyes, one damaged?
Any Irish or German customs have been long forgotten in our families.

ReplyDeleteIn England, Germany, France and other European countries, the Yule log was burned until nothing but ash remained. The ashes were then collected and either strewn on the fields as fertilizer every night until Twelfth Night or kept as a charm and or as medicine.

ReplyDeleteHappy Solstice, everyone!
ReplyDelete44 degrees and sunny on my walk this morning. It still smells like smoke around here, I guess it's all of the ash from the fire.
The old goat over here wishing everybody a happy winter solstice!
ReplyDeleteSurely you are the youngish-Olde frisky goat?
DeleteSanta goat? Hahahahaha hehehehehe. Hmmm, better or worse than reindeer? To eat the wrapping paper?
ReplyDeletePolitical humor. Nancy Pelosi is upset that she cannot get the DACA concessions she demands.
ReplyDeleteI haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up. Time is running out. :)
ReplyDeleteMy goatness is not in question. ;)
ReplyDeleteDow 24,8k
ReplyDeleteSo, when will it dip?
Too the Moon Alice!

ReplyDelete>Nancy Pelosi is upset that she cannot get the DACA concessions she demands.
ReplyDeleteWonder how it plays in the hinterlands if the Gov't is shut down because Dems don't get there way on illegal immigrants.
They put it off for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI think it shuts down on the 19th of January.
ReplyDeleteThe NPS entrance fee proposal is so antithetical to the American Way I’d rather we shut down than acquiesce.
ReplyDeleteEntrance fee?
ReplyDeleteAuto fee technically. Still it is very much a grand implementation of the Yosemite Plan which was slapped down years ago.
ReplyDeleteIr was very damp out there when I went to to get the news paper. Now it's foggy. Fire report?
ReplyDeleteCold calm. Good news. The morning update comes in an hour from the fire Dept.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning!
ReplyDeleteSkiff of snow yesterday back to 40 today an then below freezing for the next week. Brrrrr!
Hope the fire report is good.
Oh dear, the hub has a pinched.nerve in his back, which is hurting badly. Put the tems machine on him. Seems to be working. He had to take the stair chair upstairs. Was going full bore yesterday, had infrequent pain. I offered the tems machine then, but no.
ReplyDeleteTens machines are great things.
ReplyDeleteThe fire is entering the mop up stage. The Rose Valley area is getting a few remaining back fires for safety. 272,500 acres. 65% contained. No imminent threats.
Did someone call for a goat?
ReplyDeleteHot pad! then tens. I also do exercise taught by rehab. Been doing some after digging recently and feel great again. IMO.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was my wedding anniversary, We were married on the winter solstice. Wife has mono right now so our anniversary plans fell thru and I sent it with her on the couch watching TV.
ReplyDelete42 and sunny this morning for my walk. We could use some rain right about now, since it's Winter and all. Put out the last of the fires, wash off the ash, and start the New Year with a clean slate!
