The Olde Ways Are Best

Wishing everyone a solemn Alban Arthan as we honor the souls of the trees we sacrifice then deify in our living rooms. Hang the revered kerm-oak, drink the blessed wassail. "Yule" feel so much better. The Norse had the right idea taking 12 days for Jole.

Oh and for all you recent religion adoptees a translation: Christmas, Christmas Trees, holly, sacramental wine and the 12 days of Christmas

Changing the name makes little difference.

Edit to add Finnish Santa goat tradition:

  1. I think there are a lot of tree souls to appease for the excessive numbers of sapiens who have invaded and destroyed their habitat, and do not bother to keep it up.
    Top predators have responsibilities too.

  8. Goats. Don't see a relationship to paganism or Christianity.
    Why not ravens?
Or a pair of eyes, one damaged?

  11. In England, Germany, France and other European countries, the Yule log was burned until nothing but ash remained. The ashes were then collected and either strewn on the fields as fertilizer every night until Twelfth Night or kept as a charm and or as medicine.

44 degrees and sunny on my walk this morning. It still smells like smoke around here, I guess it's all of the ash from the fire.

  29. Auto fee technically. Still it is very much a grand implementation of the Yosemite Plan which was slapped down years ago.

  33. Oh dear, the hub has a pinched.nerve in his back, which is hurting badly. Put the tems machine on him. Seems to be working. He had to take the stair chair upstairs. Was going full bore yesterday, had infrequent pain. I offered the tems machine then, but no.

  34. Tens machines are great things.

The fire is entering the mop up stage. The Rose Valley area is getting a few remaining back fires for safety. 272,500 acres. 65% contained. No imminent threats.
