Housing Bubble, credit bubble, public planning, land use, zoning and transportation in the exurban environment. Specific criticism of smart growth, neotradtional, forms based, new urbanism and other top down planner schemes to increase urban extent and density. Ventura County, California specific examples.
Progress! Moving along quit nicely. I am PEX man myself but I am a hack of all trades and a master of none! I wish I had put a pot filler over the stove but my wife didn't want it.
A smart man would have the wife's objection in writing. I understand SWMBO. We will be doing our yearly trip to the big island in 7-8months. West side. Might make a trip over east to see the new island being created.
"blogger.com" is the website owned by Alphabet that hosts Exurban Nation. Sometimes it chokes on certain html codes. I had to reload the pictures is all. Then I used the opportunity to show the lava flows from aug '16 when we took a low cost poor man's vacation to Hawaii. Next low budget foray; Breckenridge, CO end of June.
Does your refrigerator wash your veggies, spy on you, and put a list of what you need on the door. Does your stove have 6 burners 2 ovens and a play warmer and start the oven cleaning cycle when IT thinks it's dirty? Does the dishwasher have a bidet attsched?
I'm not gonna buy any more appliances until they sell them in some sort of beige. Don't like black white or stainless. We had to improve the electric a lot because the fuses would go with only a medium load on them.
This morning was bacon and eggs on the bbq eating out of paper bowls in front of the TV. Mrs Dawg said it was either a college flashback or an episode of my 600lb life.
Four doors. Top two are fridge. Bottom left is freeze. Bottom right is choice. Since we have a free standing freezer the third door makes up for the cabinet depth smaller fridge. Now we get an each veggie and a fruit and a deli and cheese/yogurt/etc separate drawer.
The ills of being a Costco bulk buyer. Cost to divide, package and freezer. I wish we had one near by.
I bet I win the outdoor cooking machine contest. 5 burner BBQ grill including side burner/griddle and a 4 burner flattop grill/griddle. No refer yet, A/C for the pool house first.
I like outdoor cooking as I am tired of going out.
Today's project is finish the cheap 12" pool erection finish the sail shades and then relax.
Yup. We won't be buying pork chops for a long time. Lots of chicken for the grill. Defrosts in 45min grills in 30. There was this awesome deal on ship flash frozen shrimp for less than $4/lb so we are set there. And a recent sale on wild caught salmon. For two; 3/4lb salmon steaks skin on with salad and rice. Fast inexpensive and good for you. Damn you Costco and Ralph's deals. Best thing i did was pick up a digital scale. Come home with with pounds of food and end up with single meal packages with weight and date.
Luckily neither of us like grilled food. When I was sick once, I asked for egg dropsoup made with Campbell's chicken broth. I explained and explained he couldn't get it. Because you have to mix in a little cornstarch. . . . . . . . . . . .
Green garden hose no way! I don't ever drink the water in my RV from the white hose.
How cares where they build? Kali is one huge earth quake zone and probably consumes more houses the lava flows. How many homes lost due to the fire and flood?
A beautiful lava free, fire free, flood free hurricane free day to all. From the right coast to the left, all that we were manifestly Destiny to rule!!!
The lava builds in the caldera until it breaks out. When we were there Aug ‘16 on our poor mans vacation it was ~4 miles west of where it is breaking out now. It crusts over and insulates so you get hot tubes that squeeze out just like toothpaste. It’s fascinating. The picture above was moving 2-3 feet per hour.
Clearly I need to apply for SNAP and TANF (despite no kids).
My fridge has only 2 doors and my stove only 4 burners. I even must open the door to my freezer section in order to retrieve the ice from my ice maker. :(
But I don't have to worry about lava flows. So, I've got that going for me ... which is nice.
Frankly, half this remodel is keeping the house comparable to the neighborhood. not keeping up but if we were to ever sell it would need this. Proactive. Another quarter of the rationale is that after 57 years of updates the infrastructure was a mess. a total electrical and plumbing cluster. Any could have gone at any time. The cabinets were plain worn out. The sink showed every day of its 21 years. The fancy fridge and 36" stove were minor indulgences. Between lights and appliances we will probably save $150/yr in electricity. Maybe a few dozen dollars in heating costs. It was time.
Our cabinets may need refinishing at some point. They are at least half solid wood. I have no plan to ever replace them. They are 19. Style I don't care enough for. I care about beauty and convenience. The lovely green corian, I hope will last forever.

ReplyDeleteI don't think I would either.

Envy.
DeleteBlogger was messing with the post. I added 16 Aug 2016 Hawaii pictures.
ReplyDeleteWho was?

ReplyDeleteDoesn't look like we can escape the appliance money vortex for less than $10k. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteDoes your refrigerator wash your veggies, spy on you, and put a list of what you need on the door. Does your stove have 6 burners 2 ovens and a play warmer and start the oven cleaning cycle when IT thinks it's dirty? Does the dishwasher have a bidet attsched?
ReplyDeletePlate. Can it spell?
ReplyDeleteCan it assemble ingredients together and can it wash the corners? print out a recipe?
Can it supervise the rumba as it washes your your floor? Can the dispose-all compost your grindings, and then dump it outside, ready to spread?
ReplyDeleteThis is fun.🤣😅😀
ReplyDeleteHonest to god there was a Dacor stove for $9k that had a touch screen with recipes and cleaned itself.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Yes. You got me. Six burners.
ReplyDeleteI had a stove in a rental which had a grill. Which I liked very much. Was a rental. Never had one since.
DeleteRich!! Riiicchhhhh!
ReplyDeleteI made a very good egg salad and needed only one burner. A knife, a chopping block and a spoon
More is less?
Oh, and a bowl to put it in. I need 3 people to cook for, and only have me and the hub.
ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna buy any more appliances until they sell them in some sort of beige. Don't like black white or stainless. We had to improve the electric a lot because the fuses would go with only a medium load on them.
ReplyDeleteI also want to rip the bathrooms to shreds except for the nice walk in tub. We will hire some one. If we can find some one. And a painter.
ReplyDeleteIs four doors on a fridge too much?
ReplyDelete4? 4? 4? Please explain.
DeleteI am truly poor. Five burner gas stove with two electric ovens, one is also a convection oven. Six beats five. :(
ReplyDeleteGas is great.
DeleteOf course convection oven. IR broiler. 36” for brewing beer.
ReplyDeleteIs a 41dB dishwasher overkill?
ReplyDeleteThis morning was bacon and eggs on the bbq eating out of paper bowls in front of the TV. Mrs Dawg said it was either a college flashback or an episode of my 600lb life.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up and you can buy her diamonds.

There is indoor cooking too, you know.

Liz's eyeball twirl. Mrs Dawg doesn't cook?
ReplyDeleteLuckily neither of us like grilled food.

I think in self defense I'll teach him how to scramble an egg.
ReplyDeleteIndoor cooking is for winter. :)
ReplyDeleteMrs Dawg disapproves of my bearskin apron and mammoth tusk necklace inside.
ReplyDeleteHey, mammoths are a.protected species!
ReplyDeleteAround my BBQ grill they sure are. ;)
ReplyDeleteIs garlic shrimp linguini prepared by filling the pot from a garden hose unusual?
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteThe scrapings and mold on the inside of the pipe will make the dish.
ReplyDelete. Error.. .less delicious, .. let us say.
Seriously.
Have you SMELLED a garden hose?
ReplyDeleteI thought not.
ReplyDeleteShould the authorities allow people to build on the side of a volcano that everybody knows is active.
ReplyDeleteThe hundreds of homes that might be consumed by lava versus the millions on the Barrier Islands Virginia to Georgia that ARE going to be consumed?
ReplyDeleteEither
DeleteGreen garden hose no way! I don't ever drink the water in my RV from the white hose.
ReplyDeleteHow cares where they build? Kali is one huge earth quake zone and probably consumes more houses the lava flows. How many homes lost due to the fire and flood?
So, what happens if your house is destroyed by lava?
ReplyDeleteIs there lava insurance?
Someone said they had "good insurance."
Delete>Should the authorities allow people to build on the side of a volcano that everybody knows is active.
ReplyDeleteAs I recall, any land south of the volcano to the ocean is subject to possible lava flows.

The lava lake at the summit has dropped 750 feet!
Where is it going?

ReplyDeleteYeah sure. Approve of electrical and plumbing. Roi-- forever.
DeleteGood Morning!
ReplyDeletePool problems, fixed a couple of leaks and now it's almost filled there is a bigger one and i can't find it. Cure, ordered a bigger one!
Remod and enjoy for a few years and then sell. Not much stays in current style for 10 years.
Such horrible first world problems.

ReplyDeleteIf you don't buy something in style, just something you like, it may never be out of style.
ReplyDeleteIt is a problem for those who believe in the American Delusion. At this stage of the game it's about comfort and convenience.
ReplyDeleteMy countertop design was so edgy in 1997 that in 2018 it was general considered tasteful modern. Going for "classic" this time.
ReplyDeleteOh, new post.
