I don't blame you for outrage; I'd be the exact same way. Just understand what he's doing. He needs a narrative, one that a) explains why Galina's locked him out, b) leaves the possibility that Galina might take him back in, and c) doesn't immediately cast him in a bad light among primary players. I really got the sense tonight that he's working the kinks out of this particular story line. I've seen this done before.
If I were you guys, I'd expect this new narrative to go long term. Take that for whatever you want, but it's just the kind of thing Casey needs to believe at this point - hence, he will. Give it another week, and his story will be that you guys conspired from day one to ruin him and steal his wife.
Be pissed, just don't be surprised.

If the simple math works, do the hard math. If that works, expect 30 to 50% overruns and run the numbers again. (I'm sure Casey was much more rigorous in his Biz Plan than this). Over time you can shorthand a lot of this. But not in the first 8 months
But Casey is slick and charming (well, he wasn't slick tonight...), and G was in love. We tend to overlook lots of stuff when we are in love. I will also bet that she WANTED to believe. 23 and married to a businessman who is on his way?
I also think that Casey hid stuff from her when things started to go wrong. "It's all good, honey" "Living in Yulia's house is just a temporary setback. We will bne out in a couple of months."
IMO, it all adds up to: she should have known, but did no want to. This makes her none to diligent, but it does not make her Casey.
The 'Guilty Galina Hatin' Crew' were certain that G and Casey's mom would welcome him back with open arms. Not the case, eh? Probably the G in jail and G as guilty as Casey will be equally successful.

Johnny B Goode, I'll give you that Galina could have been young and in love. Terrific. Should'nt we Casey the same 'out'? Of course not. If she signed her name on multiple documents putting her on title to multiple houses, she participated in fraud.
ReplyDeleteIt seems very cut and dry to me. I don't really buy into her being young and in love. Repeatedly throughout our history, courts have not looked too favorably on that defense either. I also don't buy into Casey being some Svengali working some sort of magical spell over her.
I believe Casey knew very well what he was doing and hoped that appreciation would overcome any of his mistakes. Galina got caught up in the lifestyle and assisted without asking any questions.
Not every choice we make in life is always an easy one to make. But avoidance of making the right choice does not absolve one of the potential downside consequences.

This lawsuit is a result of someone being pissed off - it was not thought out and will have far reaching implications. Mark iniially wanted to have Casey negotiate with him and drop the whole thing. Now it is a matter of pride that will have a lot of victims. I didn't realize till tonight just how by the seat of his pants Mark acted in filing this.

ReplyDeleteHere is what I have to say after meeting KC in person.
ReplyDeleteHe's exactly what I expected.
All of his mannerisms and responses were as described by others and heard before.
He is impervious to criticism, advice, logic, humiliation, anger, rejection, failure.
Michael bought him a beer and the three of us sat at a table chatting until I couldn't take any more.
The only moment KC became animated was when I asked him what he got out of the attention he seemed to crave. He lit up and described his excitement at getting media exposure. When I first asked the question, he responded with a question - what's wrong with it? I told him it wasn't critical - I honestly don't understand the desire for public attention, particularly when so much of it is humiliating or critical, and wanted to know the emotional charge he got from it. He smiled and sat up and gestured and opened his eyes describing his response to a media interview. It was apparent there was a thrill for him - the bigger the exposure, the bigger the thrill, like a roller coaster.
My other questions for him:
Why should Galina trust you? He agreed she shouldn't. Hence the legal separation. He said he had signed a piece of paper agreeing to take on all the debt, I told him she needed more than that.
What's the ultimate goal for the money - what is it you are really after? He repeated the crap about wanting to repay his parents. I told him most people want money to achieve security, stability, peace of mind, comfort, freedom from worry, and to take care of those they love. And that everything he was doing took him further away from that end.
Where are you staying tonight? He said, as I am sure he had practiced, "I can't say." But there is a couch somewhere you can stay on, right? He said he has lots of friends around Sacramento.
His questions of me:
Could I recommend a lawyer? One who would work for free. I had two responses: First, you get what you pay for. And secondly, why would I recommend anyone I respected or cared for to get in front of the trainwreck that is you?
So your advice for me is that I should get a job? I told him I had no advice for him since he so obviously didn't follow any given to him. I didn't really care what happened to him, he should just stop taking people down with him.
I suggested he find something he is good at and do that, since he was such a spectacular failure at real estate investing. He asked why I thought he was a failure. I compared him to the American Idol contestants who never make it past tryouts and are advised to go on singing as a hobby but don't expect to make a living at it.
And then I went home.

That's all it is. I had a real estate agent/Kiyosaki fan tell me this mantra two years ago. We were "chumps" because we live off of a W-2 job. (She's in foreclosure now and can't sell any houses).
