Apparently the Central Valley is either Abnormally Dry or in Moderate Drought. Ask the residents. No. And as expected those of us in the tiny kidney bean of red Extreme Drought are even more incredulous. Golfing this morning one sand trap was a lake and one fairway was partially under water. The region in red has already seen 2x normal rainfall and is expecting another half years' worth of precipitation over the next 36 hours. Power is not relinquished easily.

Well the white area is extending slowly downward towards you.
ReplyDeleteThat map is dated the 14th. Bet the one dated the 21st will have your bean gone.
ReplyDeleteYes. Next map Thurs 7:30am.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning!
ReplyDeleteKali extreme applies again. Ground surface to hard or to wet to absorb more water. To bad there are so few reservoirs for all the excess.
UAW restarting effort to organize workers at foreign car manufacturers and Tesla is included in the effort.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad unions are necessary. But they are.
ReplyDeleteSo is the immigrant strike actu ally disrupting anything?
I didn't notice any but I worked all day. My favorite local Mexican restaurant closed and is owned by a small Colorado chain. They made the TV news. Last time they had a strike nothing happened, so I guess we don't have a large amount of illegals here and Americans still work here.
ReplyDeleteThe media was silent. Must have not been successful.
ReplyDeleteIllegal immigrants steal jobs.
No they don't.
Then they are on public assistance.
No, they are hard workers.
So they are stealing jobs.
Ummm... well.... uhhh...
There was something in the per here. Cuban which I think are the majority here are all legal.
DeleteNewspaper not per. Damned spell check.
DeleteAmerican leisure class is in for a surprise if welfare is cut and jobs are available. Hard to undo 50 years of wrong, it hurts both sides.
ReplyDeleteWhy? No maids and gardeners?
DeleteThe jobs are not going to be picking strawberries. The jobs are going to be robot picker service technician.
ReplyDeleteRob, you thin Trp and the Repubs will really build infrastructure?
ReplyDeleteGach! Think Trump and the Repubs
ReplyDeleteIs a border wall considered infrastructure??
ReplyDeleteFirst. Don't worry about autocorrect. You've been clear enough.
ReplyDeleteWe, not Dems, not Reps, we all have no choice but to reinvest in infrastructure. We've neglected for far too long.
The problem is the first few trillion will go into a black hole of past mistakes and present corruption. Remember "shovel ready?" The City of Oxnard got a chunk of money to back fill corrupt waste treatment plant cost overruns that were incurred in 2006 years before the so called stimulus.
There is good news. The roads are not going to need expanding near as much as expected as automation takes hold.
I haven't heard of anyone having a nanny here, grandparents fill in. Maids same but we do have house cleaning services. Some gardeners but mostly lawn mowing by independents. I use a lawn guy and I do the rest. When was the last time you saw a white roofing crew? Rarely do you see a Mexican crew here. You do see them on large road projects and I think they travel mostly. Farm work here is dominated by machines.
ReplyDeleteMy lawn guy is an independent of the white persuasion. My once every 3 weeks maid service us pretty evenly black, whie and hispanic. All legal I presume. All my secys were legal Cubans.
DeleteGovernment corruption has proven FU and get a check when the dam fails. TARP for negligents. :o
ReplyDeleteWell Oroville was built 50 years ago. Any of the miscreants still alive? The real bad actors are those who failed to maintain for the last 15 years. They are prolly still around to punish. But B of A really hasn't even been punished!
ReplyDeleteAll legal I presume.
ReplyDeletethe truth will come out during your Senate confirmation hearings.. lol
Hahaha
ReplyDeletewe have an all-Hispanic landscaping team that spends about a half-day each Friday at our apt complex. They are amazing..it can be the crappiest day weather-wise and they'll still be out there doing their thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking I better go check their paperwork today when I see them though...Trump is running out of candidates for some of his cabinet level positions...so I need to keep myself eligible... ;<)
You may never get your lawn mowed again.
DeleteI need some landscaping help. This just popped up this morning:

One unusually wet year doesn't mark the end of the drought, just a welcome respite from it. Let's see what next winter brings first.
ReplyDeleteYep
ReplyDeleteYou may never get your lawn mowed again.
ReplyDeletethat's not my lurrrnn..
(channeling Inspector Clouseau)
there's a little bit of lawn up near the front of the complex..but by the time they make it back to me it's more of a leaf/debris blowing extravaganza thru the parking lot...
ReplyDeleteI hate leafblowers.
ReplyDeleteLeafblowers are perhaps the second most useful machines ever perverted for evil purposes.
ReplyDeleteNew post BTW.
I think the drought monitor has a component which measures subsoil moisture. I don't know how far below ground it measures or how the measurement is weighted. But I know that corn plant root systems can exceed 5 feet. It would be interesting to know how much and how far the recent deluges have permeated the surface ( and at what depth the drought monitor measures it).
ReplyDeleteThe "Long Term" Palmer Drought map.(which I personally favor)..has the US completely devoid of drought (except Wyoming)...
ReplyDeleteMost of NorCal is in the "Extremely Moist" category..
Looks like crazy weather yesterday in SoCal..
