  40. between the premium subsidies, direct payments to insurance companies (profit backstops) and Medicaid expansion...has anyone seen a number for total annual FedGov cost of ACA?? It has to be in the tens of billions. I wonder how that would compare to just lowering Medicare age to 50...

    ReplyDelete
  45. you'd probably need to include under 50's with pre-existing conditions..because they aren't going to be able to get private insurance in the "free" market.

    so no Medicare/Medicaid/VA etc??

  49. we should probably just do whatever Canada is doing. They are sneaky smart about taking care of their citizens...not so much anyone in the country illegally.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Doing what MX does to illegal immigrants would be inhumane.

    ReplyDelete
  51. In Canada..they have no access to the health care system, can't enroll their kids in school..they can't even legally rent an apartment.

    ReplyDelete
  52. what I admire about Canada is they manage to pull this off while maintaining a liberal/progressive image to the rest of the world..

    ReplyDelete
  53. Paris Climate agreement?? "Sure count us in!!"

meanwhile back home..."Ramp up those tar sand fields!!"

    ReplyDelete
  54. VA is paid for as an agreement in our national military, so it is not state rights issue. Medicade is managed by the state I believe with some federal funds taken from taxes. Another look at who should get it IMO. Medicare is paid in to by working. There is no cap on paying in like SS. So it is earned not free, lowering the age defeats the pay in period maybe it should be paid out basis like SS. IMO

Canada is great that is why everyone is moving there like all of Hollywood.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dam maintnence is a great need. All those WPA dams built 80 years ago with 50 year lifespans. Oroville was not a surprise to CADWR. I worked on the flood study of what would happen if it failed back in 2010. Sacramento is just as vulnerable as New Orleans before Katrina.

    ReplyDelete
  56. First thing we should do imo is make everyone on Medicaid re-enroll and prove legal status. That will cut down a significant portion of the problem. States like California wouldn't be so quick to declare "sanctuary status" imo if they were still on the hook for their medical costs..

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thew massive cost overruns repairing the Oroville Dam are now a national security issue.

    ReplyDelete

  58. then again (playing devil's advocate)..why should states who have done a good job of maintaining their infrastructure pay for those that haven't?? California is spending billions of dollars on that stupid bullet train..but doesn't have the money to maintain their dams??

    ReplyDelete
  59. The entire country is wasting tens of billions on the train between nowheres. It is a point of contention.

    ReplyDelete
  60. > ...make everyone on Medicaid re-enroll and prove legal status.

I must be getting soft. Re-enroll sure. There are enough service members and here for 60 years types that "prove" is a steep criteria. We can afford to be a welcoming society.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "prove" is a steep criteria.

you have to prove citizenship to open a bank account. you have to prove citizenship (or legal status) to fly ..why not for expensive govt services like medicaid??

just occurred to me why Kali is building that train when it costs $49 to fly from LA to SF.....because illegals can't get the "enhanced id's" HSA requires to board a plane.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Policy is simple, Import more poverty. More illegals the better, not just medical but food stamps, schools. Simply put make a problem and make money while buying votes. Some days I think we have grown a county of use full idiots.;)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Kind of hoping Kali secedes..without those electoral votes the Dims are toast. We'll keep all the military bases and federal lands of course..

You really didn't expect them to do the right thing and repeal Obummer care, give up all the money for votes and side deals?

No rain here for some time, drought in parts of the state killed the dry crops for this year.

  76. Now, on to the tax boll. That should be clear and precise. Shouldn't it? Shouldn't it?

Designed to help the rich? Trickle down sounds like it would work,.like austerity, but neither actually do.

I think they should have started with infrastructure. That would get some momentum going. Remember momentum? Now we have anti momentum.
Dems like that and Repubs can be bribed by job creating infrastructure in their states, or stuff that's really needed.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I really hate watching anyone doing things badly, even Republicans, which I started out as. Think of those 7 years of votes, which wasted time, and which they didn't mean.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Dems are the part of disruption and I doubt they would play ball with anything except impeachment. Problem with both parties has become self centered and not what is good for the country. Sacrifice Obummer care hoping it would pass then maybe they could get other things done. Now I don't think they could get anything real done with out major bribes. IMO

  80. I stumbled on to a question that points out the hatred of a Dem/Liberal at the wedding last weekend. Was GWB a socialist Republican, confusion immediately set in in. What about Medicare part D and why no praise for this freebee? Remember the compassionate conservative? Picking a party has become like picking a sports team, win for the team is the most important. Repubs chanted and clogged the congress with dump Obummercare for years only to be unable to let go of the candy jar themselves. Sad.
