Interactive Unemployment

The Sacbee has a great interactive unemployment graphic here.

What would REALLY be cool is if you could interactively *affect* unemployment via the map. I'd go straight to the Sacramento area and change it to dark red! :-)

sm_landlord said...

Nice one, TJ. Unfortunately they would just move the black hole of state government somewhere else.

From the unemployment map, you can really see how the the state would nicely break down into maybe four new states.

In the North, you would have the state of South Oregon, with the capitol in either Mendocino or Eureka.

The state of Pacifica would down the Coast from Marin through Monterey county, with San Francisco as the capitol.

The state of Riveria would run down the coast from SLO to San Diego, with the capitol in Los Angeles, since the city is already loaded with state and federal buildings.

The remainder of the former California would be the counties east of the coastal range and south of Sacto, to the Nevada border on the east and the Mexican border on the south. This new state would be named South Nevada. The capitol would be in either Fresno or Bakersfield, although that state would be welcome to keep Sacramento as a monument to bad government.

The economies of South Oregon and South Nevada would be based on selling agricultural products, water, and prison space to the coastal counties. They could also compete with the current Nevada for gambling business.

The coastal states (Pacifica and Riviera) would have to fight it out to attract investment, as neither one would have a monopoly on the desirable places to live. This would hopefully serve to reduce the government load overall.

Another proposal along these lines come from Martin Hutchinson, linked here.

We might as well start discussing this, because it's one of the possible outcomes of what is now hitting the late great state of California. The current state is pretty much officially a failure.

I'm worried about Casey. Where is he going to live? How is he going to pay rent, since he has (had) his own apartment?

Since his boss and female colleagues were attractive, or at least well-endowed and showing off their assets, I wonder if he was, in fact, fired because of some relationship issues. Or for refusing to have a relationship. Although one reason does not necessarily exclude the other. I mean, a girlfriend could as easily as a boss decide that she doesn't want to be known for being with Casey.

Rob Dawg said...

Monica,
Hardly anyone worries about Casey anymore. No one wishes him ill but no one is going to allow him to push them under the bus to save him again either.

Monica said...

But it's Angel Lynn who pushed him under the bus. He was being serious for once and doing his job and she unfairly dismissed him.

Rob Dawg said...

That's not true. The worst she is guilt of is failing to do due diligence up front. Is it unfair that she gave him a chance and then when it wasn't working out that she severed the relationship as a business decision? AL suffered a lot of stress from haterz and well wishers alike who all warned her about those things Casey didn't mention when he joined her team.

Monica said...

Who says it wasn't working out? If Casey was doing his job, his past or what Haterz are saying should not scare off an employer after the fact, that is, after hiring him. If that's how employers are, then Casey is unemployable. It's just not fair, especially since he finally became very serious and hard-working.

Jean ValJean said...

Please, go troll somewhere else. I hear Bloggycasey is hiring.

Property Flopper said...

I know Monica is a troll, but still:

"that's how employers are, then Casey is unemployable."

That just sums it up nicely. Casey is, in fact, unemployable.

Monica said...

If he's doing his job, that's just not fair.

Rob Dawg said...

Monica,
Who says? AL says. She told me personally.

Casey made himself toxic. You don't blame people who get accidentally exposed for that.

Monica said...

But what exactly does that mean? How was he "toxic"? Was he actually doing anything wrong? I suspect it's just that she didn't like the Haterz' reaction, but to fire Casey just for that is not fair, if he was an OK employee who was doing his job.

averagerainfall said...

Serin will never hold another long-term job in this lifetime.

He could pop up thirty years from now, at almost 60 years old, and there will be people around to notify his employer that they just hired a serial con artist. Them's the breaks when you go on the Internet to brag about the multiple felonies you've committed and the $$$ you've stolen.

Property Flopper said...

"If he's doing his job, that's just not fair."

Actually, it is fair. This is the force behind "karma". Casey has run scams since he was young and has pissed away a number of really good opportunities.

The best predictor of future behavior is past actions - employers will see Casey as a problem waiting to happen. He has earned every bit of this.

Do you wonder if Casey, when he's sitting alone in the middle of the night, looks back at what his life might be if he'd just have stayed working as a programer? He'd still have a job, still be married... his life is a wreck all through his own doing. What's really got to eat him up is the realization that it isn't going to get better - the peak of his life is behind him.

Monica said...

But that's outrageous! The same economic system that makes money necessary even just to get by and takes people's homes if the mortgage is not paid and puts them in jail if they shoplift is preventing some people from earning money honestly, and that, even if they have not been convicted of any crimes. Casey is innocent in the eyes of the law because he was never convicted. And if he is now willing to sell his time to an employer and do his job, it's just not fair that the employer class would persecute him and not let him make a living.

averagerainfall said...

He'd still have a job, still be married...

He would have divorced Galina eventually, considering that he's an effeminate gay man at heart. :-p

Property Flopper said...

"Casey is innocent in the eyes of the law"

Sadly, yes - he is. I notice you have to qualify that statement though as "innocent in the eyes of the law", not just "innocent" - even you can't pass that off with a straight face.

How about this - he is NOT innocent in the eyes of employers. You don't have to be convicted of a crime to lose a job, being a liability is enough.

Casey has had a number of jobs / opportunities that he has been too lazy to keep. Who is going to hire someone with that kind of a track record?

The fact that Casey chose to fail so publicly has cemented his fate. The interweb tubes have a long memory, he'll be running from his past for a long, long time.

Monica said...

What employers think should be totally irrelevant. If Casey is willing to work, they should let him do so and pay him.

In a society where it is so necessary to have money and to have one's own income, employment should be a right, not a privilege that employers can withhold at will. I am not saying that having money provided on a silver platter without working or getting paid for a job that the employer does not need done should be a right, but if Casey is willing to work for money and a job is available, employers should let him work.

Property Flopper said...

Oh, that's funny... :)

Employment should be a right and what employers think is irrelevant.

Yup, that would be Casey's dream world. Thankfully, we don't have to live there.

Monica said...

It's just common sense. If the society makes people need jobs or else they cannot even eat or have a roof over their heads, not legally in any case, it stands to reason that it should also let people get a job. I'm not saying that someone should provide free money, housing and food, but if working is how such necessities must be obtained, it stands to reason that people should at least be allowed to work. Casey is a human being and deserves to be allowed to earn money for food and housing.

averagerainfall said...

Casey deserves to be allowed to earn money for food and housing.

He'll always have his old stand-by job, turning tricks. That should provide enough cash for the bizarre foods he eats -- grass, lemon juice with cayenne peppers, his own urine (!!), etc.

As for housing, the man-child has already gone through almost 10 houses within the past 3 years. How'd that work out for him? :-p

Make no mistake, he's right at home under Mommy and Daddy's coat-tails.

Monica said...

No human being should have to resort to prostitution just to earn a living. And his parents will not always be there, even if it's just because they'll retire or die some day. Casey got the right idea that he should start working, so he should be allowed to do so. Haterz used to actually advise him to get ajob.

Rob Dawg said...

Monica,
Casey doesn't work. Come on. Look at his record. EVERYTHING has been with the short and long term goal of something for nothing.

Monica said...

But he was working seriously for Angel Lynn. I was a little surprised but for once, he was very serious.

Sun said...

Monica is right. Here is a no-frills Craigslist job I found in Sac he can apply to

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/lab/1211553124.html

Hopefully passing the "FBI and Department of Justice" check will not be a problem?

"position pays $10/hour"

Property Flopper said...

Couple things: First off, having a job is not a right. Nobody is required to provide him with a living.

Secondly (and more importantly), Casey HAS had jobs. He has had a number of opportunities. He's pissed each and every one of them away.

You can't help someone who won't help themselves. Casey needs to find a job in retail (or equivilent) somewhere and just hunker down and work. No "pie in the sky" dreaming of getting rich, he just needs to show he can hold a job and actually perform.

Yeah, I know - I'd do better explaining this to the wall, at least I'd have a chance of convincing the wall...

averagerainfall said...

But he was working seriously for Angel Lynn.

I think Angel realized that Casey's "job" -- making blog posts and taking pictures -- could be done by even a slow-witted 10-year-old. You don't need a guy pushing 30 to do this, let alone an irresponsible admitted fraudster.

So she decided to fire the dead weight, and do the blogging and picture-taking herself, without paying any middleman... obviously she's doing fairly well in that regard, seeing as how she hasn't re-hired him.

Monica said...

If she doesn't need to employ anybody to do such a job, she should not have hired him. But she took advantage of his skills for a while by having him set up the blog and perhaps teach her some basic technical skills that she didn't have (just enough to run the blog and post videos, pictures, etc.) and then she got rid of him. That's not fair.

averagerainfall said...

If she doesn't need to employ anybody to do such a job, she should not have hired him.

Amen!! :-)

Sun said...

True, but baldy did do some damage to her rep

Monica said...

But since she hired him, she should not have fired him. She used his notoriety to get publicity for herself and then got rid of him when she thought that she got enough free publicity and that getting even more won't necessarily be better considering who Casey is. Or when she learned from Casey a few things about running a blog and could manage the "job" without help.

Sun said...

"She used his notoriety to get publicity for herself"

I think you mean she used his notoriety to get notoriety for herself

Hey, no one's perfect!

If his "knowledge" only took a couple weeks to learn, well that's slightly longer than the NRU fraud scheme.

but hey, no one's perfect!

Monica said...

Whatever notoriety and skills she got from or because of him were still worth having. She used him and then got rid of him, and that's not fair.

Property Flopper said...

"she used him and got rid of him"

Wow, Casey is the one getting tossed under the bus for once, usually he's the one doing the tossing (and/or driving said bus).

It's good to see things do come full circle.

Monica said...

If she just waited long enough, his employment there would have been accepted as a matter of fact, even by Haterz. And there is always work in a real estate office. She could have afforded to let him work there or on site, even if it was just to hand out flyers.

averagerainfall said...

And there is always work in a real estate office.

She probably realized that having an admitted mortgage fraudster (eight times over) working for a friggin *REAL ESTATE* firm wasn't the best idea, you know?

Kind of the same reason why the local fire department tries not to hire known arsonists. :-p

Monica said...

Casey would not have been in a position to commit any fraud, as he was only a low-level support employee or in any case not the decision-maker, not a real estate agent or something like that and not allowed to manage money or give or get any loans or financial advice. If that was not true then she could just have made sure that this is the case without firing him.

bohica said...

Monica, whatever you consider fair has nothing to do with reality.
Casey has positioned himself to a life of mucking out barns and running the pump truck for Porta-San.
Until he gets it into his head that there is no free lunch, paying him to "work" is a waste of money.
As for blue-collar jobs, that's what I have, and I gross about 240,000.00 a year with about six weeks off, (unpaid).
The problem with Casey seems to be that he thinks ANY work is beneath him. If I had to shovel shit out of a barn to live, you would see the world's best shit-shoveler at work. But maybe that's just the way the haterz and I are alike.

NoVa Sideliner said...

You know, if Casey worked in almost any industry except real estate or finance, he might be able to stay below the radar, put in a few good years, and get on with life.

But no, he gravitates to what he "knows". He shouldn't. What he thinks he knows has led him to dismal failure, and he needs a totally new path, and not just because of the notoriey -- eh has no knack at all for real estate OR finance.

How about a job on a survey crew, or an oil rig (uh, maybe not that one, never mind), asphalt pouring. Too hard? Heck, he might even be a decent salesman, even in this climate, what with his ability to get on well with people even if only temporarily.

But no, instead he's got this thing about real estate riches, finance, and easy fast money that will doom him if he keeps up with it.

And averagerainfall, you're right -- fire departments try not to hire known arsonists! Nice analogy.

@Monica

I have to wonder at your thought processes when you assume that because: "his boss and female colleagues were attractive, or at least well-endowed and showing off their assets", he would have been having a relationship with one (or more?) of them? Or refusing a relationship with one (or more) of them.

Just Wow! I guess you are not any kind of feminist! Your attitude appears to be that of a misogynist.

Monica said...

You bet I'm not a feminist (I tend to dislike that kind of attractive women). I'm short and fat and I tend to cover up. I may also be more educated then those ladies. And when I see a guy with 3 women with large breasts who show them off, that makes me wonder, especially since Casey is still in his 20s and the women or some of them must be older (maybe he was somebody's trophy boyfriend). And employers may normally not want to hire Casey, but a girlfriend, and one who's older than him, may be willing to hire him, or get him hired. But of course, it does not have to be that way and his firing is unfair in any case.

And as it is, Casey's knowledge about real estate is still better than nothing and in any case not a reason not to work in real estate. If he's just an office assistant or blog manager not dealing with money and not making decisions, why not?

Re: Casey working

There's always Labor Ready, doing construction site cleanup or retail inventory. Or sign spinning for that matter. The California minimum wage is $8, enough to live on if you live frugally and work at it. But that's Casey's whole problem right there.

Property Flopper said...

OK, I thought Monica's comment about work being a right was funny, but now this... Casey as a Trophy Boyfriend? Wow, talk about delusional.

I've seen the pictures of the three women in question, by far Angel is the best of the three (your milage may vary) - but ANY of them could get a better "trophy" than Casey.

Also, as many have pointed out - Casey needs to get out of "finance" as he has NO talent for it. With his background, he needs to stick to jobs that won't do a background check. His lack of work ethic will also prevent him from doing well where heavy labor is involved.

I seriously think retail or food service would be his best bet - at least to start out. He could try going back into programming, but it's almost a certainty that they'd look him up on google. He's knocked himself out of the one industry he had even a small bit of success in.

averagerainfall said...

Casey as a Trophy Boyfriend? Wow, talk about delusional.

Yeah, I think the first pre-requisite of any female's "trophy boyfriend" is that the guy has to be straight!! ;-)

Monica said...

The women are not that young. If, for instance, they are at least 10 years older, any average-looking guy of Casey's age would still be a trophy boyfriend. The kind they can afford.

Captain Nemo said...

Monica,

You are obviously either 100% troll, having a laugh at the whole Casey issue, or are insanely jealous of AL and her colleagues. I can't decide which. Please keep posting, because I need a good laugh!

Meanwhile, this is so funny: "... would still be a trophy boyfriend. The kind they can afford."
By "kind they can afford" do you mean "gay"?

Sun said...

C.N. Ha, yeah I assumed she was a troll, but not 100% sure. 95% of her posts leave an obvious opening for a snarky/sarcastic remark, so I just assumed so...but who knows :p

Monica said...

Well, at that age, a woman who wants a younger boyfriend would be proud to even give the impression that she has one. But if those women don't want to give the impression that they may be after younger office boys, why are they showing off their obviously fake racks? If they want to be treated as decent women who are not like that, they should just cover up a little more.

@Sun:

If Monica is a troll, why assume that "she" is the correct pronoun? The self-description (short and frumpy) appears somewhat stereotypical. It could just as easily be a "he".

Nevertheless, the comedy factor is high!

Monica said...

I did not say that I'm frumpy, only that I cover up. For instance, do you find this dress frumpy http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B001LU37LW/sr=1-13/qid=1244523767/ref=sr_1_13/188-6199591-1203113?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=396584011? I'm wearing that but, rest assured, only the skirt part is visible, as I am wearing a jacket that is buttoned up to my neck. I'm also covering my head with one of those thin hats that Jewish or Muslim women may wear under their scarves to prevent them from slipping off (or to prevent hair from slipping out of the scarf), but without the scarf.
