Too bad Casey isn't looking.

What's the catch? Is the place torn to shreds? Is it in the middle of nowhere? Are the neighbors drug-dealers?

No catch, market price. Good price but market price. Look at the pictures, I'd live there. It has a pool!

Wow, somebody could buy it and rent it out for a few hundred bucks per month and still break even.

Summertime--and the living is easy!

There's a fixer in the neighborhood that lists for half this one.

I remember Victorville, it's just across the river Acheron.

Wow!! The place has plenty of "opportunities for improvement", but in decent shape! I wonder what chance 16226 Forrest Ave has of selling at it's 130K list?

The catch is - it's in Victorville.

Dear Agent#777,
The poor place on Forrest Ave hasn't a chance against this kind of competition. If you look closely, Forrest Avenue has dark, cloudy skies and the trees don't have any leaves. It claims to be in Victorville, but I have my doubts.
And thanks to w and to Rob for comments on JFK airport.

NR,
If you are ever in the neighborhood we've got the trampoline set up for the young ones to burn energy while we relax on the porch.

OK, I have to admit that I was wondering how a city like Victorville could even exist, let alone have 100,000 people, but it turns out they have a logistics airport, so they may have some reason for existence. But still--100,000 people? Really? Given the extreme abundance of (by now) dirt cheap housing in the Inland Empire (and soon in L.A. proper), I really don't see any reason why anybody would live that far out.

Any other industries that I'm not aware of? If the airport is all they've got going for them, I have to wonder if this is one of those construction-and-housing fueled boom towns that may die a slow and painful death. Barstow is a major transit hub, and it's a fraction of the size of Victorville.

I also checked some websites on Apple Valley, Hesperia, Phelan, etc., and for the life of me I can't tell why they even exist--no agriculture, no industry, no mining, at least that I can tell--just a whole lot about "quality of life" (in the high desert?) Maybe they're L.A./Vegas ex-urbs--but well over an hour and a half away, in good traffic?

PV,
You've got it right. Nothing but insanity.

Is it eligible for Section 8 housing?

The kicker on these fixer-uppers is that they are in fact (wait for it) fixer-uppers. I've been house shopping in Phx the past two months and looked at about fifty places, many with serious issues. Like all REOs they are offered "as is" so be prepared for anything including ripped-out wiring and plumbing due to vandalism and so forth. That evap cooler listed above may also be an issue, the prospective flipper may want to just pull it and install a real HVAC system.

People who use the term (wait for it) "wait for it" are total loosers.
