100 Years Later

With apologies to Katharine Lee Bates
O beautiful for spacious skies,
[watch the no fly zones and drone corridors]

For amber waves of grain,
 [subsidized ethanol is colorless]

For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
[Unless your religion forbids mentioning a deity of course]

And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
 [land grabbing zealots]

Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
[Federal lands off limits to grazing]

America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
 [flaws?]

 Confirm thy soul in self-control,
[unless your sins are due to a difficult upbringing]

Thy liberty in law!
 [no comment required]

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
 [VA waiting list]

Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
 [subject to mandatory sentencing guidelines]

America! America! May God thy gold refine
 [coinz!]

Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine!
[For surely God is a capitalist]

O Beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

1913 and look how far we've deviated.
