Weesa All Gonna Dry!

Does everyone remember when California was going to enter an epic centuries long drought?  It was 10 months ago.  Seriously.  September 2016.

Here is Bill Nye "The Science Die":
In 2014, Bill Nye said this while calling people who disagree with him names:
And in the case of the California drought, a recent study suggests that there is 95 percent confident that human-caused climate change tripled the chance of the development of a persistent high pressure system in the Northern Pacific Ocean, which is the cause of the California drought because it deflects precipitation away from the region.

The "Hot Blob" ran rampant in the news at that time.  No one talks about the "Cool Pool" currently in the same place.

Oh come on! You know that when you get your dear husband and me together for a bbq and beer that the "fun would be viral worthy on the internet.

I deal with this on a daily basis. Most of the good rainfall data we have is less than 100 years old. Trying to extrapolate the "100 year rainfall event" design criteria for dams and levees from 60 years of good data is pretty laughable.

Lawyerliz said...

Yeah.

Lawyerliz said...

You can get a small amount of info from geology.

Lawyerliz said...

Figure the worst and double or triple it. Misers won't like it, but it might work

Man made droughts is more like population increase with out more water storage reservoirs. So easy to fool some people.

TJandTheBear said...

We've gone almost 2 months in Oregon without rain.

LBD said...

Not supposed to rain today but got almost a quarter inch of drizzle. We are on target for 24" this year. I didn't go fishing, maybe tomorrow. :)

Rob Dawg said...

Drive California's Central Valley on any of a dozen freeways and see hundreds of signs that make it clear the "drought" is a man made capacity crisis.

LBD said...

Same Farmers pumping the Aquifer dry? That is man made.

Lawyerliz said...

Thought you guys were very wet

Lawyerliz said...

Oops, below 22k. Shame

Lawyerliz said...

Ok, so now Trump is beating up on Mitch McConnell. I'm no fan of Mitch, but I know better than ever about having a tiger by the tail.

LBD said...

Businessman meets politician. That is part of why T got elected is politicians haven't done the job they should have.

Big ouch today in my Funds. :(

From my ride yesterday. Camera mounted on the handle bars so it's kind of shaky or at least that is my story.

Well, the sacred 2% level in cpI was not reached. Alas, alac, the goddess wii be unhappy! Also we will run out of money in Oct r so. The tweets Wil set the world on fire, if the nukes don't. Ryan saved us before, maybe he will again..

Rob Dawg said...

Combining the two most recent posts. In anticipation of the rains starting early I ordered OEM replacement wipers for the mighty mighty Volvo. The two in front are different lengths and the rear blade is not standard. Besides it's a Volvo. Was going to be more than $80 or $18 from China with free shipping. Let's see if they work in a few weeks.

Rob Dawg said...

Jack Ryan in Hunt for Red October you mean.

If Paul Ryan then limit discussion and voice vote and see if anyone has the nerve to demand a count.

Rob Dawg said...

It always astounds me that we seek 2% erosion in the value of everything all the time. The policy should be as low as possible as long as not negative. Call what we have a victory and start lowering the balance sheet.

Lawyerliz said...

Agreed. Nobody has ever splained to me where 2 comes from. Mystical?

Lawyerliz said...

I knew that Jefferson was in serious debt when he died, Madison was too. Neither could free all their slaves. Franklin let his go, I wonder what financial position the other founders were in.

Lawyerliz said...

Wh o is crazier, Trump or Mr. Nk

LBD said...

Today's Krazy is Susan Rice.

Lawyerliz said...

What did she do today?

Lawyerliz said...

If NK and Trump are taking the mkt down, the maybe the rich will get Trump to shut up

There is justice!

LBD said...

She is still a Obama twit wanting T to tolerate NK having nukes.

LBD said...

Is the beach a Camp Pentelton open to the public? I remember they where trying to take it away from the Marines.

Cinco-X said...

Congressman Wasserman

Lawyerliz said...

I've been feeling quite murderous lately. And you guys are worrying about beaches?

I hid under school benches. You want that to happen again? The guamese all to immigrate to Seattle? Or SanFrancisco?

Lawyerliz said...

Short of nuclear was, what do we do and how do we do it? I know, spend even more money.

Lawyerliz said...

Oh, now we are going after Venezuela too?

Lawyerliz said...

Is there no one we can just let fester on their own?

Cinco-X said...

Morning all y'all

Lawyerliz said...

Now he's talking about going after Venezuela. They don't deserve it,.but don't have nukes. Can't they be allowed to crawl out of their problems themselves? If thWY need feeding can't we just send food?

Lawyerliz said...

Are there any marches planned?

Lawyerliz said...

Good morning.😀 to you too.

Lawyerliz said...

Hey, I have a thought. The economy is doing quite well, except for young black males that Trump doesn't care about anyway. Can't he claim that this is all his doing, even if not true ( he doesn't care about that), and emphasize the greatneness of that. Also infrastructure is part of his agenda, and nearly everyone likes that and in many places we do really need it. So flog infrastructure, which will reduce unimployment even more, with bonuses for hiring young black men, 18 to 25. Foreign countries need not apply for contracts. This would give all of us a win. No walls included. Give Trump a success, so he doesn't want to blow up the world. Enforce the non immigrant laws we have on the books right now, to make sure Americans get hired. That just might get is infinetesmally close to the illusive full employmentm

LBD said...

Good Morning!

Why did O make nice with Iran, Cuba? Sending food and aid only subsidized the dictator and doesn't help. Allowing mass immigration takes the pressure of the dictators. Why shouldn't we do some thing instead of ignoring problems in the beginning before they become a real threat Like Iran and NK? Maybe hiding under tables taught us some thing just like the fear of the draft did for many young men like me.

Lawyerliz said...

I agree, but here we are. No food for NK, only Venezuela. This is only to prevent the Guamese from being blown up due to Trump's stupidity, not some sort of favor.

Lawyerliz said...

I like Cubans, but we have enough of them. Regularize their admission and you won't have the wet foot dry foot thing.

LBD said...

Disagree, Clinton Stupidity and ignored till it ends up in Trumps lap. Guam is the first threat but half of the US is in sight of his ICBN Nukes. Guam is disposable? NK dough boy started this not Trump.

Venezuela is probably about oil dollars mostly.

Cinco-X said...

Sending food and sending troops are both bad ideas

Rob Dawg said...

In the Alternate Universe President HRC would be visiting the troops in all four active war zones all the while exhorting Americans to never forget the real enemy is Russia and Clumate Change.

LBD said...

Simple question if you where in control. When Crazies like Iran and NK obtain nuke war heads and ICBMs, is the homeland (USA) safe or threatened. Especially when they make open threats to attack us. What would you do?

Lawyerliz said...

In Dawafornlizia, nobody would do anything to the middle east if someone country wanted, we'd leave them alone to do it. Our hackers would be better than their hackers. We'd feed
Venezuelans. Our Hackers would have done sometHong against nk long ago

Rob Dawg said...

Dawgiforniac would have been engaging in decades of undermining the Nork regimes. We'd be smuggling solar powered TVs and radios along with magazines and such.

Lawyerliz said...

Sorry to insert my name in there. Not worthy. Just almost finished the 3rd UU speech. The really amazing part is how similar the problems and solutions were, then and now. Except the Founders were much smarter, better read, educated and thoughtful. Etc etc. They had manners too.
Can you think of one single person in this much bigger united states who could match Washington, Jefferson, Franklyn, Madison, the Adamses, the Morrises. You might find somebody equating with THomas Paine. I suppose Franklyn would be a famous scientist or tech guy. Why?

Lawyerliz said...

I suppose most of these guys didn't really want to be politicians, except Madison.

Rob Dawg said...

To be fair to moderns what they had to learn to know everything is but a fraction of what you need to learn to be merely well versed today. More than a third of the planet was untouched by humans in their time. There was no biology past farm animal breeding. Electricity one of the fundamental force had just been discovered.

Look at me. A nothing yet a week doesn't pass when someone doesn't remark about the depth and breath of my experience. And I don't even rate. The generalist is dead. The aggregator is dead. All that is left are con men with specialized knowledge that can be monetized.

LBD said...

Spot on Rob the founding fathers where brilliant men of their time. Today the complexities of the world accomplishments and problems would not apply to their train of thought. Simpler world with out nukes and ICBMs, politicians with personal profits and insane brides. The world gets smaller every day making problems bigger.

Lawyerliz said...

Elegant writing is always in fashion.

Lawyerliz said...

Errr, the polls then made personal profits and Morris the Financier, has specific permission to do so. They were inventing something new politically. A musket can make you just as dead as a nuke, but not so many at one time. They knew different kinds of complexities. People call Australian aborigines primitive. They are not. They just know different things. The world sure as hell was not simpler then. All the political manunvering was like a 4 dimensional game of chess. Speaking of which, China just said if NK launches and we retaliate, China won't protect NK.

Rob Dawg said...

It isn't unfair or racist but the Australian Aborigines specialized to the point of lacking the general skills to adapt to such rapid change as they were subject to. Just plain old lapped in the contest. Sad and regrettable and there may come a time when their line proves a survival advantage. Just not now.

Rob Dawg said...

Before anyone jumps. The Australian Aborigines wee probably dealt the worst meanest most asymetrical hand in recorded history.

Rob Dawg said...

The Aztecs a close second.

Lawyerliz said...

And neither of them were primitive.

Lawyerliz said...

The hub got concussion when a ladder broke under him. We've been told there's nothing much to do about it except rest, and it takes a long time to heal. Any thoughts, info??

LBD said...

Good Morning!

All of the crazy things I have done I have only rang my bell a couple of times, mildly. Felt it for a few days being off balance and slow. Nothing big. I have known guys who have wrecked race cars, motorcycles seem unstable for a long time, months in some cases.

Culture class is generally ugly and the word primitive is some what debatable. Yesterdays event was the result of race baiting of two haters.

Cinco-X said...

Yikes! I don't think you're supposed to take blood thinners after a concussion

LBD said...

I love work, I could watch it all day! :)

LBD said...

Yesterday reminds me of the Hippie saying "What if they gave a war and nobody came".

Cinco-X said...

Don't take any analgesics or blood thinners without a doctor's permission. It can make bleeding in the brain worse, though I suspect that most of that has healed already. Tylenol is best in this case, but with minimal or no alcohol. BTW, alcohol is another no-no

Lawyerliz said...

It is true that long dry spells happen and you never know when they start or how long they will. Preventive measures such as desalination plants are desirable, not foolish. You could pump it back into the ground from whence it came. Silly me

Rob Dawg said...

I checked with God at the turn at the local course just now. Keep in mind He was in a good mood having birdied the tough Par 4 Eighth. He sayeth that time spent fishing or golfing, biking, sailing doth not count against thy time on Earth. Why is God playing the back nine starting so late? Well besides "the office" being so busy on Sunday mornings He obviously qualifies for the senior discount after 2PM.

Rob Dawg said...

Liz, the Santa Barbara desal plant cost twice as much to reactivate as to build and never use.

Oh and a blog note. No new posts until somebody laughs at this post's title.

Wessa All Gonna Dry

Lawyerliz said...

From all you guys have said, California is completely unable to handle its finances. Sounds like a lot of carelessness and a lot of corruption and a lot of fecklessness that not even Floridah has.

I got it and I direct laughing in your direction.

Lawyerliz said...

A reporter's question was IMHO grounds for banning her from the press pool.

New post. Just for fun. To lighten the mood.
