California Wimps Out Again

Imagine you are picking the State Dinosaur.  Lots of choices.  T Rex, Velociraptor, dozens of others.  What does California do?  How about this:
That's right the Duckbill.  What;s next?  Mandating the Universities adopt nonthreatening mascots?

Brown, acting on one of the more lighthearted measures on his desk, announced Saturday the signing of Assembly Bill 1540 by Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica.
The bill elevates the duck-billed dinosaur discovered in California’s Moreno Formation to existing state law alongside the saber-toothed cat as the official state fossil and the California red-legged frog as the official state amphibian.

On the bright side, if they're wasting their time on this type of issue, then they've got less time to spend screwing up important items.

Floridah. Tortoise and gator.

Did you know that secretary is a sexist word? I didn't until today

LBD said...

Work is a swear word to many.

Kali has no time for importian business.

Lawyerliz said...

I saw a small turtle yesterday!

Lawyerliz said...

Or, perhaps it was a turtle-ess.

Cinco-X said...

Did they change Secretaries Day to Clerical Administrators Day?

Rob Dawg said...

I think turtles have the same problem.

Good Morning!

FBI has time to investigate college basketball but no time for political crooks. 💸

Have teeth cleaned . Traumatic. By a dental hygenitalistess.

LBD said...

I clean my own teeth and go to the dentist every other year. No cavities for many years. 😀

Lawyerliz said...

No cavities. Yay.

Lawyerliz said...

Gold star!! You have strong teeth. I don't

Cinco-X said...

hygenitalistess

OMG QFT

LBD said...

Not good teeth more like no room! Seriously it all started with popcorn hulls, bought a kit of dental picks. Makes trips for cleanings easier.

Lawyerliz said...

As a kid, the dentist terrified me.

Well of Trump's tax plan, reducing g Corp taxes is ok, because it will bring money home. And doubling the exption because it will help the lower half or whatever of the population , but not a cent of lower to the rich except what the lower exemption provides.

Lawyerliz said...

I foresee a big big fight over lowering taxes on the rich.

What is wrong with infrastructure??Some of that might actually get passed.

LBD said...

Tax all income starting at five percent up to twenty with no deductions. Everybody plays and everybody pays.💸

Lawyerliz said...

Ok.

Never happen.

Rob Dawg said...

Cinco and Dawg are agreed that a fixed national consumption tax is okay as long as it is instead not in addition to cover the base costs of federal government.

LBD said...

The rich would make expensive purschaes outside of the country. Should continue as income tax.

Rob Dawg said...

The rich don't have income.

Lawyerliz said...

Whenever I want to talk to my children, I post something nice-ish about Trump and they jump all over me. Sigh.

Lawyerliz said...

Another set of gravitational waves. Yay.

Lawyerliz said...

WHaT do they have?

Lawyerliz said...

Pope Leo XIX authorized runding u the wives of cerics and selling them into slavery. The more I read, the worse catholicism gets.

Consumption taxes are regressive and an incentive for the black market. Also agree with Dawg, Trump took a write down 20 years ago and hasn't paid income taxes since.

Lawyerliz said...

So that's why he wants the unwashed not to see his tax returns.

EngineerJim said...

>Trump took a write down 20 years ago and hasn't paid income taxes since.

Actually Trump paid taxes in 2005 $38M on $150 million income.

Tax system pushes investments and write offs. Cashing out cost big time. You don't have to pay much if you work it right. IMO.

Lawyerliz said...

Oh golly, no taxes for 12 years instead of twenty.

Lawyerliz said...

Don't think it helps mid middle Class at all. Eliminates alternate minimum tax ?--not really, as there are so many if ands or buts, and it mostly ends up being very little.

And do we not care about raising the deficit any more?

Lawyerliz said...

Doubles standard deduction. Before question mark.

Lawyerliz said...

And, after much thought, duck billed dinosaurs are nice

Rob Dawg said...

Yup. Nice. Plant eaters. The sheep of the Jurassic.

Lawyerliz said...

They took care of their baby eggs too.

Lawyerliz said...

The one you depicted is a nice green color.

LBD said...

Good Morning! ☀️

Nothing wrong with not paying taxes every year as long as the money is being reinvested in job producing investments. i.e. construction and manufacturing. This is the benefit for the middle and lower class, jobs. IMO.

Lawyerliz said...

Yep. Except big companies produce few jobs.. the bean counters take over. Small to medium comanies produce the jobs.

LBD said...

The new world economy doesn't work well for workers. Been saying this for a long time a long with importing poverty. Insanity is coming to a boil with technology thrown in to the mix. Offices buildings are the vertical factory with fill the blanks computer jobs and cubical office space.

Lawyerliz said...

Yeah. Prolly not as bad as an assembly line, by pretty bad and less well paid.

LBD said...

Wait for the computers to eliminate most of these jobs world wide. Now may be the good old days. If there is a chance to bring back jobs now is the time to do it. Not real optimistic about it.

Just read one of those save a million dollars and retire early. Thing is we did almost none of those things but have a comfy retirement. We did, work past 67, hub worked to almost 71. Work for the govt. Naughty but nice. He gets an actual pension, which was available a long time ago, but not now. If there is an employee matching fund, join it. We did that. We did not save money regularly. We did not stint ourselves in the stuff dept. Now we want less, because we already have it and too much stuff is oppressive. Inherit some! We put extra money into the house. Not on a regular basis, just when a little windfall came in. We never refinanced, even though our interest rate was high. I just couldn't stand to hand the bank points money. Or pay closing costs. We got a 25 year mtg, not 30, which I recommend to everyone. Having your house paid off is delightful. That suggestion was not made. Saving all that money early means someone will try to take it from you.
I know you know all this. Just felt like venting.

Rob Dawg said...

Small business formation has been terrible. I would go so far as to say it is the reason for the long anemic recovery. I lay the blame on government imposed barriers to entry. Some just stupid overregulation others at the behest of big companies and unions. Barrier to entry is formidable.

Rob Dawg said...

Being a few years behind Liz I can only hope to do as well.

Speaking of which. Ford up a buck from where I bought 1000 shares as a money where my mouth is statement.

LBD said...

We live in an era gone buy. The young are conned in to debt as soon as they get their first credit card at 18. Then comes you are a low life with out a college degree so get a student loan, now you are raised to a no body unless you have a big house payment, a car and some toy payments as well. Tomorrow is a long time away and the ATM(house) will take care of all your needs. Sad life as we see most of our siblings play the game and are in constant failure. In the end they will retire basically broke thinking SS is going to cover retirement. It is hard to feel sorry for them.

Rob Dawg said...

SS is a Ponzi. Worse, a Ponzi run by the government.

Regardless, new post. Complaining about real estate this time. ;)

Lawyerliz said...

I've seen that a lot of this is at the state level. They know where to Really hurt.

Yay.
