Housing Bubble, credit bubble, public planning, land use, zoning and transportation in the exurban environment. Specific criticism of smart growth, neotradtional, forms based, new urbanism and other top down planner schemes to increase urban extent and density. Ventura County, California specific examples.
Looking forward to the hopefully upcoming post on BART. One of the seldom-mentioned downsides of public transportation is unions. Large populations can be held hostage for featherbedding by the unions. This could be fixed by reclassifying public transport as a vital public utility and banning strikes, but I doubt that will ever happen, particularly in California.
The upcoming BART strike action is well-timed since the Cali National Guard troops are mostly deployed elsewhere at the moment. Now the question is: where does BART get the money to bribe the union back to work? Maybe another bond issue?
