Baby boomers ruined America, according to this Generation X author
In “A Generation of Sociopaths: How the Boomers Betrayed America,” Bruce Cannon Gibney traces many of our nation’s most pressing issues, including climate change and the rising cost of education, back to baby boomers’ idiosyncrasies and enormous political power. Raised in an era of seemingly unending economic prosperity with relatively permissive parents, and the first generation to grow up with a television, baby boomers developed an appetite for consumption and a lack of empathy for future generations that has resulted in unfortunate policy decisions, argues Gibney, who is in his early 40s. (That makes him Generation X.)
“These things conditioned the boomers into some pretty unhelpful behaviors and the behaviors as a whole seem sociopathic,” he said.
Bruce Cannon Gibney is a venture capitalist and writer. An early investor in PayPal, he later joined Founders Fund, where he and his colleagues funded Facebook, Spotify, Palantir Technologies, Elon Musk's SpaceX, Airbnb, Lyft, and other start-ups.

Having spent my entire life "competing" with 1945-1955 types a few years older and so numerous that even merit was not enough I want to suggest 1956-1966 be their own cohort and we can call ourselves "Cuspers."

I was reading the other day where there is an actual shortage of construction workers. Carpenters and bricklayers in particular are getting top wages.
Wonder how we are going to rebuild infrastructure if there's a shortage of construction workers (slowly, I guess).

That Atlanta fire was started by a druggie homeless man. It will cost prolly in excess of a billion dollars when you count time lost to commuters. Several thoughts. That billions would pay for an awful lot of housing for the homeless and addicted and an awful lot of treatment also. This was promised decades ago when an awful lot of really bad insane asylums were shut down. It never happen and the bridge collapse is just the most obvious of the cost of turning these people out. It is high time this promise was kept. A census should be taken of the bridge dwellers. Then housing asylum whatever you want to call them, should be built and spots under bridges closed off, because of the danger. Then the homeless residenTs moved in. If they want to leave fine, but not for under bridges. I doubt this will happen, since these people are not seen as worthy of humane treatment.

they've tried that up here Liz. Many of them don't want "treatment"..and they don't want any housing/shelter that puts any kind of rules on them.

Well, they can't live under bridges, and if they don't want to live there, I'm sure there some other poor people who could be moved in. But some accommodations must be made. Um, did anyone ask them what they do want? Every time they are found under a bridge they get moved to the accomodation.
Well should we just leave them under the bridges?
they have a very comprehensive program up here to get people off the streets, into temporary shelters, thru drug treatment and into job training/job placement. Some people take advantage of it and make it all the way thru..others try it and drop out..others don't want to be bothered by it. All they care about is their next fix...

For most I think it is a choice. There are tons of ways to get off the street and turn your life around if you want to. DoGooders need a hobby that feels good. IMO

The vagrants I see are mostly white guys of apparently Western European decent. A veryfew of apparent middle eastern descent. Virtually none of Latin American descent.

Gangs are not just Hispanics. If you are raised in a gang family I bet chances are you will follow that life.

Hub just saw a really big turtle, not a gopher tortoise, in our yard. It had a yellow stripe down the back. It is much .bigger than my grey friend in the front with the burrow under the rose bush.

Latin families are pretty strong. Go to Atlanta or Memphis if you want to see black vagrants. And as Rob mentions, there are gangs for Hispanics, though I don't think it's a huge deal for vagrancy...
