Hypocrites All

This is surely old news since you all pour over every issue of Designfax:

Israel, Hong Kong and Taiwan joined a number of U.S. allies at the World Trade Organization on Wednesday to express concerns over a Trump administration executive order that calls on U.S. authorities to "maximize" use of American-made goods, products and materials in government procurement.
The 10 WTO members, also including the European Union, Canada and Japan, also urged Washington to continue honoring the trade body's "Government Procurement Agreement" that binds the United States and 45 other countries — mostly EU members — to open government procurement markets to foreign competition and make them more transparent.

Got that?  The US is the bad guy here?  Every single nation listed uniformly and unequally biases towards local procurement and everyone knows it.

Why the hoopola?  Pretty obvious isn't it?  80 years of US laize faire attitudes towards market and IP predation are coming to an end.  It isn't Trump.  It was happening before and it will continue past his administrations.

Check this from Layer Seven Security:

According to NSA Director General Keith Alexander, cyber-espionage has led to "the greatest transfer of wealth in history." This is supported by not only a recent report by Symantec, which places the cost of intellectual property theft in the United States at $250 billion a year, but a prominent report on cyber-espionage released by Mandiant Corporation in February this year.
The report is based on security breaches investigated by Mandiant at nearly 150 organizations between 2006 & 2013. It focuses upon the cyber-espionage activities of one of the more than twenty prolific Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups in the world. The group labeled as APT1 is believed to be state-sponsored and operating from the Pudong area of Shanghai. It is considered to be a branch of Unit 61398 of the People’s Liberation Army of China. The official mandate of the unit is vaguely defined as ‘computer network operations’ but there is considerable evidence to suggest that the actual mission is the collection of political, economic, and military intelligence. APT1 is estimated to control a large physical infrastructure comprised of thousands of Command and Control servers. Given the size of the infrastructure, the group is believed to be staffed with several hundred resources that are required to be proficient in network and information security and the English language.

Aren't they sending out fake news from the USA?

There are a lot of folks at fault here, and they're easily identified being the ones that have gained the bulk of the loot for the last 25 years. Damn near anyone with a Harvard MBA need their head in a pike, but there are plenty of others...

what even counts as US made anymore? If Ford is headquarted in Detroit, but my fleet truck is designed in California with parts made in Taiwan and assembled in Mexico and sold in St Louis is it US made?

chinese and indian engineers are half the hourly rate of an american. I used to work for a giant multinational company that would outsource american design work to china under the supervision of an american project manager. If the math was done in china but checked by an american is it local?

I believe it's a question of "value added"... If 52% of the value of an object is added (and taxed) in America, it's American made...

Interesting, so if the cost of a product is 48% third world labor and 52% shipping by an american company it's american made.

Not much American made stuff anymore I gave up decades ago as most people didn't have a clue or cared. There's a movie idea "I ate my kids job!"

Oh noez, a possible tropical system above S. America.

Well... If it's shipping once it passes customs, then I guess... I'd hate to try and slide that past the IRS. You know the crap you're suggesting actually guess on, right?... Just enough "design" done here to maximize R&D tax credits, etc...

I bought a set of aluminum A N wrenches and it came with a note proudly engineered in the US, made in Taiwan. Truth is they have been around for a long time and just a knock off copy. Probably laid them on paper and traced them with a crayon.

Rob Dawg said...

Aluminum? I have a couple outlier tools including a composite ratchet wrench but Aluminum? I'm actually trying to perfect an A N fastener system that uses at least partially aluminum nuts.

LBD said...

Yes, we used them on race cars as some of the connectors where aluminum and steel wrenches scared them up pretty quick and these are wider then steel as well.

Now a journalist called Mark Halperin is starting to appologize. I thonk I've read his articles. I wonder if studies have been made of how many men do this. Hard to get data.

Good Morning!

Throw some hate out there and see if it get's traction. Money to be made off of hungry customers.

Speaking of hate lots of it at Muddy and little else.

Test.

Then why do the people I like stay there?

Test successful

Okay. A little glitch in the mobile version. Eating posts and comments it seems.

Yeah the concentric firing squads are in rapid fire mode. My favorites are the republicans tearing into Trump. Angry at their being drained from he swamp without realizing they were the swamp. Then again DiFi running again might be more humorous.

I’ll get out to the garden shed of spousal exile shortly and get some new content qued up.

Liz, you correct that people should be voting with their feet but where would they go? They could come here but then have to put up with being treated fairly. That wold be an adjustment.

Lawyerliz said...

They will go to family mostly. My former secy s friend has no power but says things are getting better. If the Cubans got help, it stopped long ago.

Lawyerliz said...

And they will mostly come here I think. Or, N Y.

Tidied up so the maids can clean.

Lawyerliz said...

Men will find this funny. Women will not.

Rob Dawg said...

Not funny. You want them to focus.

New post.
