Critical Mass Effect

Three weeks ago when I restarted Exurban Nation I had no expectations.  I wasn't sure I could post enough interesting content.  I wasn't sure I could attract cogent posters.  Well it looks like EN is back.  People are interested.  People are contributing.  Thanks to all.

Use the comments to make criticisms, suggestions and propose ideas for future content.
Why?  Just because.

EDIT:  For "wagga" a good place to lose a cow from this summer.

Good to see EN back. Actually, better than good.

I'd like to submit that energy is the controlling factor in our industrial/technological society.

Cheap fuel to drive from the exurbs to work & back - cheap electricity to drive the computer networks we need to work from home.

Open thread? Oh goodie.

I've been wondering when I'd see an article like this: http://www.kapilkale.com/blog/the-housing-cloud/

tl;dr = Since everything is moving into the cloud, young guy figures ditch all material stuff, lived in furnished places only for a while.

God help us if these youngsters pick up on such a trend.

"I threw out my DVD collection today. Rebel Without a Cause. Ocean’s Eleven. Gone. I own most of them on Amazon Instant Video, so I didn’t need them anymore."

ZOMG! My DVD collection is going over 1k this holiday season. I am a prisoner of my possessions.

I wonder what this fellow will do when the solar flare scrambles his account. I wonder what this fellow will do when he cannot prove he did not RIAA violate. Guilty unless you can prove otherwise. I wonder what this fellow will do when he finds the rights are not transferable. I wonder what this fellow will do when a judgment freezes his assets.

Dave! Good to hear from you. I am ashamed I haven't kept in touch. A picture in the post for you. Went to Bryce, Zion, Tetons, Yellowstone and Dinosaur this summer.

Actually, Ebenezer said "It's a hell of a place to lose a cow."

Perhaps your email has changed - mine is unchanged & trivial to construct...

What wagga said - the economy is a heat engine - period.

Dawg, I'm showing up here because there is serious discussion and debate about subjects I have an interest in. And also because a number of people are commenting here whose opinions I learned to respect from their comments on HCN. There's a good signal to noise ratio, so far.

Egregious plug for someone else. jBrocato1@AOL.com has a pocket listing for a gold mine that looks like a solid deal, the price is $1.2MM and it's going to take money to develop. I know Jay, and have skimmed the hundreds of pages of reports (Not joking). He's a solid guy. If anyone has an interest, shoot him an email.

"There's a good signal to noise ratio"

And a civil bent.

Will be back tomorrow, as the crickies are starting up in a moment...

well done. I need this viewpoint you express on "what's it about" well articulated, carefully documented and never shilled. Yeah yeah tall order. Good luck. Do exhibit your prejudices - especially about hetero sexuality and in the proper way - IMO. but if the audience changes ( on the "sexism") angle then DO change to reflect that - but that's not the real message you convey is it ? Enjoy and great luck to you.

I serve up the occasional beefcake. Thanks for reminding me I've been overly biased of late.

Rob Dawg,

I think I can explain all those visits while you were away.

Your picture of the cat is hypnotizing. ;)

We thought Harold was just a fuzzy Kitteh. Turns out he's a Norwegian Forest Cat. A real breed. He's been insufferable ever since he found out.

Anyone interested in me continuing to append vacation pics to regular posts?

Fair warning, I am also going to bury a "new" post in the old posts. It is just my DVD list. iPhones have a nifty app but Mrs Dawg is still chained to Crackberry so she needs a web link.

"iPhones have a nifty app"

Just got an iPhone last week. Still haven't figured out all the goodies.

Rob Dawg said...

Hey Eric. The app is called dvdpedia. Never buy a duplicate again. I said I have 1k DVDs but most are yard sale finds $1-$3. Cheap entertainment. I must admit to many yet to be viewed. You don't just look for something to watch and pick Apocalypto.

My favorite Siri ability:
"What is 75% of sixty four point five? "

Comes back correct and shows the math. Makes bargain shopping easier.
