Jones/Moore sad also to have an election become a trail of untried accusations. So now will action be taken against Moore or will the accusers go back asleep?
Neither the facts nor the law were ever relevant in this case. All that mattered was the accusations and the election.
What strikes me is how the left thinks they have momentum and a winning formula. 2018 is a long way away and these conditions will never repeat. The only plus side is that women are likely to be more active and be candidates. That’s good for everyone.
The Democrats are fielding candidates which I have been told are pretty good everywhere, which wasn't. I think that is good too. The presiden t ial party usually loses seats in the mid year elections. This victory can't be anything but a boost. You can call it momentum or anything you want, but it's a good thing for dems. Trump clearly has no coattails now. When will the billionaire donor get tired of donating?
They are going to lose lots of house seats, I think. IF the Senate stays the same, 51 to 49 yes that will be a victory. If they pick up 1 or 2 seats, an earthquake, I dunno. The Repubs can can hard get an thing thru with only a 2 seat majority. With a one seat majority? Surely that will motivate them to compromise.
Dems will definitely gain a few in California. They have a hit list and local money. I expect the money they spend defeating McClintock will set records.
According to wikipedia, Cali is 44% democrat to 29% Republican amongst registered voters. Doesn't the CA legislature have a 2/3 majority override? A couple more seats and they are fillibuster proof.
Registration is increasingly meaningless. One of us is R and the other D. That way we get all the mailings and emails. Politically the State is like lots of other states except add SF & LA. Alone they skew so left the whole State appears liberal.
Fire note. My BiL is off to NYC from his voluntary evacuation Summerland location. Not real worried but still gathered important papers and got them safe. Those keeping count this is day 9.
What's wrong with a living wage? Isn't something in that direction a Christian teaching? When did I feed, clothe or shelter you Lord? When you did it for those poor men.
Global warming is true. That’s all we know. Anything about whether Orbital variation, volcanism or humans is at best conjecture. Anyone who doesn’t include at least those three is not reliable.
Sadly a living wage turns out to be a minimum free ride. We spend tons of money on education and we get a growing poverty class in return. On top of that we import a lot of poverty. NUTS! Beings they push global maybe we should be on a world scale. Christianity I believe tells you you have a brain, use it.
The Bible mentions food clothing and shelter Nourishing food in the stomach, a roof overy your head and a couple of changes of clothes would do it. And loving kindness.
Let them do more if they want. I agree and they do. Private charities are huge in giving, so the question becomes why the governments heavy involvement? It appears to be a jobs program, especially educations roll in day care and food delivery. Importing poverty is big biz for education, medical etc. More biz more graft.
Cooler today 45F then back to the 50's. Still dry.
I'll let Bezos of Amazon answer. His company, Blue Horizon just finished a factory to build rockets nearby. Beautiful build, went past there yesterday. 330 high paid employee. Just opened. I imagine he intends to make money.
Nothing more dangerous than engineers and scientists unfairly idled. They have ideas and the means to realize them. I spent a good deal of my time breaking things so that they wouldn’t break. I can break most anything technological or infrastructure complex. NASA was a good outlet for those types.
Amazon loses money for longer than the completion can hold out. Then they raised prices. That should be considered criminal behavior, and Bezos should be in prison
NASA is part of our military industrial complex. They haven't done much for decades. Eisenhower was a different era and is probably rolling over in his grave. Not just the MIC. IMO
NASA hasn't been given a clear mission in decades. We are wasting a ton of potential. Get congress to tell NASA we want a man on Mars and the innovation will happen. I'd rather we put those engineers to work making biodomes than MOABs.
Then you’ll really love my habitat design. Remember Jiffy Pop? Prepreg bid carbon fiber balloons with a simple docking ring of metal. The preimpregnated cloth would set in the presence of UV. Deploy this ring and cloth package about 4 feet across and three feet thick in earths shadow and apply about 1 psi to inflate. When you hit sunlight it hardens. From there inflate more layers inside for whatever special purpose that needs stronger or radiation protection.
IMO Walmart doesn’t need to be broken up, just held to rules. It is iirc 15 years old but the story of the pickle and bicycle tells you all you need to know.
Thomas fire still burning. Now the fourth largest in California history at 242,500 acres (or about 379 square miles). It's said to be about 30% contained at this point, but full containment may take until next year... no rain in the near-term forecast at this point.
One firefighter died today out toward Fillmore, no details available yet other than his name: Cory Iverson of San Diego.
California cracks widen. Now Sacramento is pushing a new tax based on miles driven. Well, they -say- miles driven but they mean is how many and where driven. There are no words for that level of evil.
The claim is CA is not collecting enough money from the gas tax because of newer, more fuel efficient cars and hybrids and electric vehicles. So they need to know the number of miles driven by every vehicle so they are "fair" about collecting taxes for funding roads.
Speaking of monopolies, the Mouse+Fox deal looks like a perfect place for the lawyers to get involved. It's a vertical, horizontal, and every which way attempt to control markets.

"less expensive" as in more of their costs are subsidized by the densely populated areas. If they had to pay the true cost of utilities and roads and emergency services and etc. that are not economically feasible unless you subsidize it then they wouldn't be "less expensive" any more. I'm okay with subsidizing rural areas, but if you are looking to end a transportation subsidy to Tesla drivers, then effectively turning every road into a toll road is a pretty easy way to do it. You can find another way to subsidize the rural areas.
The gas tax (and the political inability to ever raise it) has left the nations roads negligently underfunded. I'd prefer the whole country go to miles driven with an adjustment for weight of the vehicle. Yeah, I was thinking of something like that. In CA you need to get a smog check every two years, so you could read the odometer at that time. Also, the vehicle weight can be accounted for because the vehicle model is known.

Very sad.
But. .
Jones won!
Jones won.
Jones won!
Yayayyayay!
Everybody lost. Again.
Good Morning!
Fires have been very devastating.
Jones/Moore sad also to have an election become a trail of untried accusations. So now will action be taken against Moore or will the accusers go back asleep?
Isn't it past the statute of Limitations by this time?
I think so and that makes it impossible to justify if the accusations have merit. I know nothing about either candidate but see slimy politics again.

They donated millions to HER and got nothing for it. Once burned...
And let us not forget. The Senate flipping would be an earthquake. Way to many D seat to defend and also go after R seats.
When do people figured they got duped again?
I'm hoping for an earthquake. If they get one seat for a tie???
Fiendish laughter. They would have to work together.
Duped by what? You wanted Moore?
Dems will definitely gain a few in California. They have a hit list and local money. I expect the money they spend defeating McClintock will set records.
Due process is such an outdated, overrated idea. What were the founders thinking!?
The falsifying of evidence is not past the Statue of Limitations.
I didn't want Moore per say but I didn't want a decision made on emotion and not fact. I would say that duped applies.
Poor Dems all that food stamp money defending the poor. Duped again.
I'm surprised to hear there's room to increase in Kali. Massachusett's delegation is already 100% dimorats
And Gerrymandering ensures it will stay that way
Hunh? Food stamp money?
Dems the defenders of the poor against the rich, so that leaves the poor to finance the Dems. Duped.
Sonce decisions on both side are made on emotion, I don't think you will get your wish. I too would like rationality. Frankly I don't know what Jones
Stands for, but I'm not from Alabama. He'll vote Dem
Some people won’t mind but Moore was correct that Jones will be a leadership lap dog.
California delegation: 39-14. So many safe districts that the Dems can pick off a couple currently Republican seats pretty easily.
Two years for that lying son of a bitch. Then he's gone.

What lies did Jones say?
What position has he taken on anything?
No media coverage on that at all.
Jones is Obamacare, living wage, soft on crime and a global warming proponent. No judgement. Just reading his website.
I've tried to answer 2ce and it kicks me off
Briefly, punishment works when it is swift and sure, not severe.
Briefly Global warming has a lot of data points pointing that way, but no totally convincing theory.
Solar variation too. Didn't that cause the little ice age? I personally am doubtful that there is enough vulcanism to do it,.but b you fires might.
A living wage is the right thing. Who decides is where it breaks down.
You guys need to do controlled burns. In addition to hardening houses etc
When the recipient is not naked, has a roof over his head, and healthy food in his stomach.
Solar variation too. Didn't that cause the little ice age? I personally am doubtful that there is enough vulcanism to do it,.but b you fires might.

Governments institutionalize poverty because the huge social services infrastructure is beholden and the recipients are disarmed.
Most of them really need stuff.
I suggest the real moochers are the military industrial complex. Eisenhower thought so too.
A roofer came out. He was good. I think we're going to hire him!!!
Yes they are anti riot payments but it has grown out of control.
NASA?
NASA what?
Roofer hired. More employment.
Moocher, Ducks!
Nope.

Amazon learned it from walmart who learned it from the railroad barrons.
Got some people to post. NASA is our Chartres Cathedral.
Too many offshoot techs to mention
Employed the hub!
So should Korea, China, Japan, etc.
Walmart didn't lose money for 20 years, nor did the railroads. There is no comparison
Military too
Manned, not good, hub agrees. Planets, oodles. Maybe life on moons with under stuff oceans.
I wanted to LEO the shuttle EFT. There was enough fuel always remaining to do it. Would have been the basis of a space station.
Hub here. Like skylab. Yep.

Sorry I couldn’t make the trip to visit.
Me too. Welcome anytime.
The launch didn't go off anyway. Still hasn't.
My point was that the idea of undercutting and outlasting the competition isn't new. Amazon is just taking it to an extreme.
We had to trust bust before for far less anticompetitive behavior. Amazon exploits suppliers as only a monopolist can.

Yeay Teddy R.
Could intense fires cause earthquakes?
Last I checked global warming was being blamed for all natural disasters.
>Now Sacramento is pushing a new tax based on miles driven. Well, they -say- miles driven but they mean is how many and where driven.
Well, they need to know if they were driven in CA. They just want to be "fair" about it. LOL.
Good night.😀
How should roads be paid for?
The claim is CA is not collecting enough money from the gas tax because of newer, more fuel efficient cars and hybrids and electric vehicles. So they need to know the number of miles driven by every vehicle so they are "fair" about collecting taxes for funding roads.
Right... THAT... Send Bezos to Guantanamo...a real terrorist
Speaking of monopolies, the Mouse+Fox deal looks like a perfect place for the lawyers to get involved. It's a vertical, horizontal, and every which way attempt to control markets.
Thomas Fire now fourth largest in Cali history, now at 249,500 acres (~390 sq mi), new evacuations ordered, red flag warnings through at least tomorrow morning.
Good Morning!
Fire is probably the worst natural disaster.
Banks have become monopolies with the government blessing. Trickle down seems natural from there. Angry!
Clever tax. The most miles driven are by those living the the red areas of Kali where it's less expensive to live.
Winning
Trickle down doesn't work except for pee, and all the rich people know that. It does sound logical.
Lord Sumner Redstone is still alive at 94. Only the good die young.
If trickle down doesn't work, what does? Socialism? Communism?
Wanting to change how a couple of the levers are being pulled in our representative democracy is a far cry from socialism, communism and fascism. A more progressive tax structure, low wage worker protections, election finance reform and conglomerate busting are not the death of our way of life.
>Clever tax. The most miles driven are by those living the the red areas of Kali where it's less expensive to live.
Gotta get the deplorables to pay their "fair" share.
Only the good kind of socialism... Ya know, the one where "I" get to take "your" stuff... Not the other kind
They're more or a continuation of the death of our way of life. Don't get me wrong... I'm not a fan of the current system, but the dimorats plan is to further entrench the power of the elites, not to punish them and return power to the people

Sure, miles driven makes more sense than a gas tax. However, as Rob Dawg mentioned (or inferred at least), there could be a privacy issue.
I'd read the odometer when you get the car inspected. There is some slippage with out of state vehicles etc, but there's always a little slippage. If it's national policy to pay the miles driven tax in the place the vehicle is registered then you get the mileage data without the privacy issues.
On the gas tax, don't forget to mention that large chunks of the gas tax revenue have been diverted away from highway maintenance to to build urban transit systems. So to some extent the rural gas tax money is subsidizing high-cost urban infrastructure such as trolleys, subways, and buses.

Totally agree.
All good ideas. But we don't have inspection here. Not for years.

Very nuanced article showing the difficulty FEMA faces enforcing flood insurance standards.
The launch went off finally.
Fire news.
????
Google is seriously messing with me. Posts missing comments missing.
Cars with satellite links can report to the state annual mileage and those that don't can get a mileage verification at an emissions station. Great if electric cars have to pay.
A post got through.
Liz, the fires are getting worse but less dangerous. I know that doesn’t help.
Geodetic reportibgvsays your vehicle was in Cool CA at noon and Tahoe a short time later. Average speed 77mph. Here is your ticket.
CHP used to time the shadows cast on a car from an overpass from a great distance and compute excess speed to ticket. This was back in 1974 on 99. Better technology now same results.
The CHP rule on hwy80 is that 80 is OK but 81 and lane switching is not.
Re: Mileage driven gas tax
STUPID IDEA
Collect the tax from the company who produces the gas! Simple. Fewer pieces of data to track.
Sometimes I think we are passing through the tail of comet Stupid.
Hunh??
What if the aren't using gas.
I-80 @ 80mph is fine conditions permitting. Push the posted 65 mph in rain or worse and expect a warning at least. I get the sense that over the pass enforcement is about safety and not revenue.

My boss got caught in Excess of 100MPH. 300SEL 6.3 that's low cruise. Besides if 80MPH is OK on I80 he was on 99! :)
I agree that tax at the pump is still the best method but that won't make jobs and get more votes for the government. LOL!
This fire is amazing and very sad. :(
Ticketed for 100mph+ on most of SR-99 in a 300SEL 6.3 (M?) is just an arrogant prick tax.
Yes, I wish I had bought one. Rocket for a little dictator! Then I would have probably lost my license. ;)
Well, we got a roofer finally, someone to renew knockdown and replace some popcorn, and install light pipes. Next painting outside and in and some wood repairs. Then bathroom work. Good luck on your projects.
I talked to my biz partner and he was in Colorado when the hurricane hit and his Sarasota home only had a couple of screens blown out around the pool.
The mighty mighty Volvo is the penultimate stealth rocket. 2006 V70 2.5T. A station wagon? I say penultimate because I just missed out on a V70R that I test drove only to return and find the guy before me filling out the purchase agreement.
I bet some of the still smoldering foundations on Ondulando will be reoccupied by June.
Where are you gonna get the laborers subs and contractor. Even after MaiMI lightened up it was hard to get permits and inspectors, after andrew. I imagine Kali will be worse.
Remember that big U-3 lie about “not in labor force?” There are millions just waiting to re-enter.
Thomas Fire now at 259,000 acres, moves to 3rd largest ever. 40% contained now.
Both Girl Scout camps my kids attended burned.
Cinco said on Reddit that the PAC12 was powderpuff football scheduling. While Oregon, USC and Cardinal would disagree it probably has more to do with a selection process that requires players to be able to read. 🏈
Wow, in a horrible way.
With boarder enforcement there maybe a labor shortage in Kali. Maybe some Americans will get off the couch. =:o
And maybe American employers will pay almost livable wages.
What's an almost living wage there? Or, more relevant, the hourly wage that would drag americans off couches?
=:○
What do they pay Mexicans?
For Americans 13, 15, 17 bucks an hour? And yes, this will raise pressures to increase job costs.
Inflation to make the Fed happy?
What ever Dynamics work out. It could be high cost low production or high production high cost. Will the border hold if the need is greater then supply. Living wage is not an issue for construction, especially temporary. It pays to work or it doesn't. IMO
My project guy gets $20/hr and his help gets $15-$20 depending.
New post.
:P
Is that the "high top fade" emoticon?
Sometimes people are too stubborn to raise wages even if it hurts them
Going rate here for house cleaners, gardeners, etc is $20/hr.
