Aliexpress is a Bargain

Here are my 11-11 orders check out the prices.  These are just everyday items.  The difference is waiting or anticipating instead of having to buy locally saves 80-90%.  10 inch iPhone cords for 81¢.  10 ft iPhone cord for $3.52.  Plastic micrometer less than a buck.  LED bulbs for my Maglite flashlights $2.87.  The savings in batteries alone justifies what looks like a high price.  Dremel accessories, x-acto knives, all for pennies.  Most will be stocking stuffers for the kids.

LDB,

Nice to hear about the bowling average. I'm sitting on 165 heading into the roll-off tomorrow night. It will be my highest average as a lefty. I ought to get a second ball for shooting 7 pins, but I'm too stubborn (and cheap), plus I just don't want to deal with the extra weight of hauling around two balls.

Markets were overbought by a Trillion dollar stock buy-back binge thanks to the T Tax cuts. The nudge from said cuts has already run out. Managed to move the needle from 4.1 U3 to 3.7 U3, (one can only guess, of course, where U3 would've dropped without the cuts). Managed to buy one quarter of 4% GDP growth and one of 3.5. Q4 estimates are back in the 2s.

Poodle skirts. I want poodle skirts to make a comeback.

Liz,

I was raised Baptist, and had a similar sense of disconnect between messages and actions. While not without a different set of faults, I'm mostly comfortable as a "New Thought" cult member. (Mostly Unity churches, along with Science of Mind). I believe you've mentioned UU in the past.

I only refer to Unity churches as a cult because I once came across a Catholic web page that used that categorization.

I was thinking of alternate histories last night and I think if Gore been elected in 2000 he would have been a 1 term president and the probably lost to McCain in 2004. McCain for 8 years then who knows in 2012, but I would have much preferred that to our current reality.

I had one of those many years ago.

Many religions are profitable. There are so many way to slip money out the doors with people not looking. Part of the problem I have with them.

I was in the BSA for a couple years and quit when we constantly moved. It was good for me but looks like the PC terrorist got to them and most people didn't go for it. Sad.

We are now over 200 comments and I forget how to get here.

With my age problems I have pick up to 147 and am going up 1-2 pins a week. Haven't been over 150 in many years. Close to getting all together and hope to several 200 games. I went through 4 different curve balls last year and finally settled on the first one and just bought a new straight shot spare ball and that helped a lot. Fun but always exciting to challenge myself to do better.

Wife made poodle skirts for the girls and they got handed around the family. They are a cool part of teen history.

My bowling history is a bit odd.

My best friend recruited me into league bowling in my mid-20s. Back then I bowled righty. He gave me an old ball of his that he no longer used. (Columbia Yellow dot, IIRC). First league ever, (34 week league - 2 halves), I averaged about 120 for the first half, then figured some stuff out. Averaged over 150 in the second half, and pretty much carried the team into the roll-off ... where I stunk to high heaven - something like 104, 98 in the first two games. But my teammates were on fire, and in game 3, I managed a lucky turkey, and we won the league.

Over the next 10 years, my righty average climbed to a peak of 174. I finally bought my own ball - a Columbia Gold Dot. Then I blew out my left knee playing basketball.

So, I switched to lefty. Again, starting with about a 120 average. Took some years off, but started back a couple years back, and have managed to climb from 140s up to 165 in my current league - a new personal best lefty. Also threw a 244 game lefty this year, matching my career best as a righty.

I was a Cub Scout and Webelos - but my home town didn't have anyone wanting to be a scout master by the late 70s, so I was a Boy Scout for about 2 meetings.

Just heard Gartman say a Dead Cat Bounce. Havn't heard that for a long time. LOL!

FED up! Everything thing is wonderful in their world. Data to narrow and late?

Firemane said...

Team went 7-0 on final night of league, so we finished 9th instead of 11th. I finished with a 164 average, (my highest closing average as a lefty).

I'm a little surprised to see the Dow below 23k ... well, at least this quickly. But, it's been so polluted with corporate stock buy-backs for so long, it's hard to get a read on what "reasonable" is anymore.

Just checked, and looks like the Fed Balance sheet "unwind" is progressing as planned. Down from 4.4T in January to a little of 4T today. Wondering if the unwind stops if recession hits in 2019, or if they just nudge the interest rates down and quietly keep the unwind going.

Whoo hoo .4T!!!

Are the Trump lovers getting restive? Launch still on but not sure the visitors center will be open. Was gonna take the relatives.

Hub thinks the visitors center will be open as it's privately run.

Not a red or blue thing. Not surprised both parties have never got anything done for decades. I think it comes down to who owns congress.

Tulare county CA, just had a no cooperation with the ICE release of a violent illegal shoot six and killed two. Kali has gone nuts. IMO.

Don't mention food. The grandson is cute off the charts... we finally watched the launch from the beach. The hub took them for a walk around the rear arce. They saw an otter!!! I've never seen an otter in the wilds of my back yard. In short, Florida was on it's best behavior. We went up on an observation deck, ate at Fish lips, and watched the cruise ships.

Lousy holiday for me.

On Saturday morning I went to Firestone, because I've had a slow leak tire for a couple of months. The fires have 30,000 miles on them, which is a bit early to get new ones. The slow leak was a puncture, which they could fix (30 bucks). But, the tread wear on two of the tires was bad, (two were still in good shape). Except, one of the low wear tires was also the one with the puncture. So, rather wait 6 months to buy 2 tires, and then probably have to buy another pair 6 months after that, I opted to buy myself a Christmas present - and went ahead and bought a full set. Not the financially smart move - just the lazy-as-hell and don't want to have to deal with this crap for a couple of years decision.

My car was involved in a fender bender WHILE I was buying new tires for it. (Tech was backing it out of the bay and another customer was coming in. Minor scrape to my rear bumper (the side of the other guys car got the worst of the exchange).

So, my trip to the tire shop took twice as long, (store called police to make a report, so they could submit to their insurance).

And, at some point, some insurance company (other than mine) will be calling to coordinate the repair to my rear bumper.

LBD said...

Ouch! Don’t forget to get them to pay for a rental car while it’s being repaired. That usually speeds the process up.

I used two by two at a time but rotation with the oil change it’s free. They did wear evenly. They lasted 40K+ And a leak prompted the replacement as well. Snow and ice marginal tires are don’t performe well. Paying to have them rotated cost more then it saves. IMO.

Welcome to the Chutes and Ladder market.

Let's crash 4,000 points in a month, then gain back 1,000 in a day, before we start the next slide toward oblivion ... all while the pundits go ... "Ummm ... we're confused."

Firemane said...

Wondering what the odds are that the December market crash and volatility (plus the govt. shutdown) has an impact on 2019 hiring plans by the big employers.

Wondering how much of the thousand point spike on Wed. was a result of triggered buy-backs by the same corps that have been feasting on stock buy-backs since the Trump Tax Cuts.

Happy Grandpa is back home!

When all the tricks are paid out then the market will settle down and jump back and forth a few times and a long slow growth will pursue.

Nice thing about religion you can find one that does meet you ideals or none at all.

BSA is doomed at this point. To much PC doesn't work people want groups that align with their ideas.

Jim the Realtor said...

My current thoughts on real estate for 2019?

In North San Diego County's coastal region I'm predicting that sales will drop 20% next year, after the -10% result we had in 2018. It's avoidable if sellers and agents were better at reading the market. But egos will prevail and plenty will choose to not sell, rather than accept a couple of thousand off record-high pricing.

I had one seller this year who was adamant about getting full price ($1.1M), rather than accept $1.05M - and he rented the house instead, figuring that prices always go up. He paid $650,000 ten years ago, and hadn't refinanced any cash out.

If he doesn't sell in the next three years, he won't get the 2-out-of-5-year tax-free profits, and then that will cause him to never sell.

We will see many more like that in 2019.

The incessant market bashing by the media is bound to take its toll in 2019 too, as amateur reporters rely on amateur opinions from 'analysts' instead of talking to those of us who are on the street.

The diluted, and mostly negative reporting will cause buyers to wait-and-see, and we'll be counting on the least-informed rich people who have so much dough they don't care about a couple of points in either direction - they just want a house.

Not too much Prop 13 dismantling next year, but it will be under full-fledged attack in 2020, with the California Association of Realtors leading the charge. Their lightweight 2018 proposition was just a test run, and they still have half the money raised in the bank.

Prop 13 will get nibbled around the edges. The two points under attack in 2020 are the corporations who enjoy Prop 13, and those kids and grandkids who inherit the previous ultra-low tax basis. Gavin and his teeth will be the new conquering hero, and his support will probably get both issues changed.

Also included will be widening to all CA counties of the existing Prop 60/90 which allows seniors to take their ultra-low tax basis with them when downsizing.

The realtors say the changes will be good for sales, but I am very skeptical of that.

You can already downsize and take your tax basis with you to all of the desirable counties - nobody is going to move to El Centro just because they can now take their tax-basis there.

The potential change that's not on the radar is revisiting the 2-out-of-5-year tax-free profits. Last December I thought it was toast, and the Trump tax reform was going to change it to 5-out-of-8 years - but it got yanked at the last minute. Nancy Pelosi and team could bring it up again, and if passed, have a big effect on the move-up market which has already been hammered. If recent purchasers have to wait five years, they'll just talk themselves out of moving altogether by then.

I think it's a good thing for people to stay latched on to their houses for a while but not forever.
My son's house has appreciated what I think is a lot.
But his interest rate is 3 3/4%. So he is kinda trapped; I don't think rates will ever be that low again. Ever being his lifetime.

Lizzie, Switch over to the Muddy Economist. This blog is dead.

Lawyerliz said...

Lawyerliz said...

I did. There are people on it. Yay.

Lawyerliz said...

I have to figure out how it works. If Dawg was gonna bail, he should have told us.

LBD said...

Good Morning!

Thanks Jim, Long gone from Kali but if I understand correctly Commercial should not have the same benefits under prop 13, especially corps. Either a higher escalation of rate or a rise every 5 years to current market value and tax rates.

Same with inherited RRE, no longer under the restraints of limited income the property should be on a accelerate 5 year path back to current valve and tax rate.

Kali has changed so much and not for the average person anymore. Sad.

LBD said...

Maybe Dawg didn't post Bail? =:0

I checked out muddy and reddit not much but a bunch of hate. A couple of exceptions. I would rather talk to you guys and hope Dawg makes it back. ;)

Jim the Realtor said...

LBD - Yes, Prop 13 got expanded over the years, and it's time to reel it back just a little. If it gets presented like that, it will pass. But hysteria will kick in, and it's more likely to become a matter of who spends the most money to get their way.

This blog here has a long and storied history - and will survive a relatively short Dawg vacation.
