Hold Your Nose and Talk Politics

"Hillary Clinton is fatally flawed by her own reckless arrogance. It is the same attitude seen in bad doctors and dead test pilots."

My opinion is she's the next president. Like her husband, she's ready to break kneecaps and pull fingernails with pliers. When and if Obama fights back, she will fall back into her crying motherly mode. What will be playing in the minds of many voters: A BLACK man is beating up an older WHITE woman. She will screech and claw her way to victory at the convention.

John McCain? He was supremely brave in Vietnam. When Hillary and the rest of Team Clinton sink their fangs into him he'll be finished.

Ogg the Caveman said...

Damn. I couldn've had the trifecta.

I find Clinton to be unprincipled.

Rob Dawg said...

I could understand her being immoral given her husband and being a lawyer and all but she's something far worse; amoral. And should she find herself at the helm there won't be a balanced or hostile Congress to stymie her worst impulses.

Sometimes when I'm feelin' onery I think given what's coming that it would serve her right to have job when it all goes bad and she finds herself captive to events rather than master of them.

Ogg the Caveman said...

McCain is also troubling. If he flip-flopped on something as formerly important to him as opposing torture, is there any issue that's more important to him than winning?

Morever, I find it troubling that McCain's platform does not address civil liberties at all. We live in a time where the executive branch claims the right to do all the things that we were told separate totalitarian regimes from us: Eavesdrop on our communications (phone calls, Internet, even paper mail now) without oversight or constraint, torture without consequence, and imprison people indefinitely without court review or access to a lawyer on nothing more than the executive branch's say-so.

I find all of that very troubling, and I'm disturbed that a presidential candidate wouldn't think any of it is worth mentioning in his platform.

For those of you who think it's just peachy for President Bush to wield that kind of unchecked power: How do you feel about that power passing to Hillary Clinton?

Au Contraire, Clinton may be immoral, but the people who are voting for her are worse. This country deserves the pain she will bring.

For a long time, I thought she was going to be the next president. Right now, I think Obama has out maneuvered her. If she goes to negative, the super-delegates will all jump to Obama to prevent the party from self-destructing and if she doesn't go negative Obama will win.
If Obama runs a red phone commercial with a Hillary look a like answering it, she will be destroyed. And because it is a response to an ad of hers, it will not be perceived as going to negative.

Seems to me in the democratic party, only a black man can trump a white woman. They have picked the only person who could possibly neutralize the Hillary threat. And boy, does she threaten some of them. Did you see Gary Hart's diatribe on the Hufington Post today? Very very harsh.

My only other comment on Hillary is that the very few Hillary supporters I know have all drunk the kool-aid, moreso than even the Obama cheerers. Her supporters frighten me more than his supporters.

Also, on fark, the male posters equate her with their ex or their mom. Not a good thing.

Akubi said...

No matter how my "shady deals", lies and BS they push, it is extremely statistically unlikely that Billary can make up a serious delegate disadvantage at this stage yet the MSM seems to be ignoring that point because she’s producing the spectacle they love.

Dawg, if you really want to drive up traffic you should have posted a pro-Hillary statement as this astute politico blog commenter noted:
People, smarten up here. You don't get media at all. It's not about you bloggers voicing your opinions. It's about getting you bloggers to come to the Politico site because you are worth money to them. The more visitors, the greater the value of the site for advertising revenue. Bottom line is you people are being played. Look at the comment history. Far more people write in with outrage defending Obama regarding a pro-Clinton thread than those who defend Clinton based on a pro-Obama thread. It's just not as good a business to write pro-Obama threads. They draw less traffic because there are so fewer Clinton people (about 600,000 so far and counting). Clinton puff pieces drives more traffic. It does not matter that the traffic is predominantly anti-Clinton. Traffic is traffic. Calls for this guy to quit or be fired because of what he writes is crazy. His job is to draw you in regardless of what you have of say. To the Politico, he's money in the bank as he plays you all like an old drum. Because every time you come here to voice an opinion or complain about him, all the Politico hears is cha-ching.

Sorry, Lou. There is no way in hell I'd vote for Shillary yet I'm sure my California vote wouldn't make a GD difference if she somehow manages to even get to that point which I *highly* doubt.

Obama will take her down. He is like the rube in the movie Hudsucker Proxy, but he has Fat Teddy and Kerry backing him (mortal enemies of the Clinton camp). And I bet Hot Air Al will help out too.

Hillary has forgotten the old adage:
Friends may come
And friends may go
But you accumulate enemies.

All the non support in the past 2 elections by the Clintons are going to come home to roost like no money down ARM loans.

McCain can wack him, but I have feeling the economic meltdown is going to torch him like the Wicked Witch of the West getting rained on.

Can't you just see the McCain commercial:

Scene: 3AM the White House, Presidential bedroom
The red phone rings
Hillary lookalike reaches over picks up the line
then rolls over: "Here Bill it's for you."

Announcer: "This is what Sen Clinton is touting as her experience."

I just get that Stephen King "Dead Zone" feeling whenever I can stand to hear her dragging her claws across a blackboard that she calls speaking.

Maybe, just maybe, Obama can be as charismatic as JFK for the Democrats.

Not a chance for Clinton since the SNL skits have it right.

I've been asked for a few of the things that bother me about HRC:

Bush and Hillary share a common belief that the rightness of their actions is justified by their certainty that their decisions are guided by an unerring moral compass.

Bush and Hillary share a common trait of not fearing the awesome power the Presidency holds.

Bush and Hillary share a common sense of absolutism in that if you oppose their polices you are an enemy and generally that only because you aren't as smart or informed or insightful on the issue as they.

Bush and Hillary share a common practice of rewarding loyalty far out of proportion to any actual service performed.

Hillary is a core urbanist.

Hillary never asks "should we even" only "what should we."

It takes a village.

Cattle futures.

Triangulation.

So true. If I state it is the truth, it *is the truth* no matter how insanely inaccurate it is. Perhaps that's why she's so popular among voters who haven't finished high school.

@Bill,
Again, the winning Democratic candidates in the past 50 years have been white guys from the South - with one exception.
This is why I think Edwards would be a good choice for Obama's VP.

So true.
Essentially, other than well known extramarital affairs she seems to have all of Bill's minuses without his charisma.

Also, if Shillary has done such a good job dividing the Democratic party, WTF will she do to this country that's already in a pretty sorry state?

I am also of the opinion that the tax returns issue will eventually sink her ship. They only know money and wealth from their so called public service. They don't know how to handle it and they stink of nouvea riche discomfort. Were few of us are even exposed to real wealth. Let me tell you, it is different. Not taking for granted nor studied indifference. It comes from immersion in an attitude and perspective from birth that treats assets and money much the same way old New England Yankees would look at leaving a light on or consider buying a new dray horse. Just more zeroes.

Thanks Dawg, although the first thing that comes to mind is the moral compass issue. I guess I do not get the same "higher than thou" righteousness from Hilary that I do from Bush.

I cannot stand Bush for what I perceive as trashing our country. Specifically,
- Iraq war - we invaded a sovereign country for no legitimate reason. 200,000 plus Iraqis dead, how many Americans, 4k?? , about 1 trillion and counting - with no one to pay for it.

- I never agreed with any aspect of the war and thought that it could only end in the mess that it is today. But, if we decide to do it, I goddamn wanna pay for it, not ship the bill to my kids

- His muscle foreign policy has made us the laughing stock of the world

- Tax breaks for the rich. I strongly feel that those who make the most should pay the highest percentage of tax. Warren Buffet highlighted this recently that his secretary pays more tax than him (%-wise). Note, btwn my wife and I, we probably make 200k and would pay more ourselves...

- A bazillion other decisions - one that particularly irks me is stem cells.... this promising technology uses balls of cells that are thrown down the sink (50,000 embryo's get tossed, but cannot be used for these studies???) - all because of religious nuts that he is in bed with...

- the only thing I support was his 30 day extension for FBers in housing (which is essentially doing nothing, and is the right thing to do)

sorry to rant, but I like the days of Bill better (and I do not care one bit who is having sex with)

Well... as I understand it, leverage is key. So are late night business meetings, naps, having a power team, delegating everything except for having sweet connections, and wheatgrass. Of course if all that fails, there's a good market for dick pills.

Vince Foster was one of their greatest moments. Here a guy intimate of their deepest political secrets commits suicide in the White House offices and they not only successfully move the body and eliminate the evidence but don't even get blamed in the court of public opinion.

"How to Succeed in Business." Wasn't that a slice of Americana?

Fred,
No offense and your opinions are not in any way being put down but your Bushrant is why there are so few political threads. It's tiresome and not very productive.
The Iraq War was a great idea well planned and executed with a minimum of lives (on both sides) lost that achieved US objectives. I just never imagined the peace could have been bungled so badly. Same with the freaking 'Stan. You'd have thought we'd have learned from the Soviets if not from the Turks or the Persians or the Ottomans or the Greeks.

US international power and prestige has been in decline for decades with only a slight bump courtesy RWR. Anybody who thinks the current US international position now is uncomfortable imagine Gore having presided these last 8 years.

The problem with a century of the income tax is that it is increasingly unable to tap the rich. they learn and avoid taxable events like we all do except better. Extremely modest wealth and consumption taxes are going to be necessary. i just shudder at the political tricks once the camel's nose is in the tent.

The stem cells bit worries me. I thought the policy was stupid but it actually served to advance the science in unforeseen ways. He was right and within his powers in what he did.

Everybody remembers fondly the days of a Republican majority in the Congress. Things were so good coasting off the inertia of the Reagan legacy that few people cared about the President's pants.

Ogg, good one. Nice Daylight Savings Time early humor.

Dawg,
You said "The Iraq War was a great idea well planned and executed" but peace has been the problem - oh yes, the war ended when Bush said it did, this other stuff is the "peace". It was a stupid idea, there was no plan for getting out, and could have only ended this way (did you really think the Sunnis/Shiites would come out and rejoice the "liberation"). What objectives were achieved? at what cost? Since we will never agree on any aspect of the war, lets discuss who should pay for it. Bush put it on your kids future VISA card, I say we pay for it now.

I dont at all get your comment on stem cells? Specifically how have the Bush limitations "served to advance the science in unforeseen ways"

While I don’t see any difference between Clinton (follow the $ she’s received from defense contractors, etc.) and McCain on Iraq, I am with @Fred in being rather puzzled by your Iraq (and stem cell) remarks.
If we do not have a functional democracy (Diebold, election irregularities, lobbyists, Florida, etc., etc.) in this country how the hell could we ever expect to impose it on Iraq?! Stupid. We should have just wrapped up the Afghanistan mess where there clearly was a problem.

Unlike Obama, Billary and McCain have taken money from lobbyists and political action committees, so I think they really deserve each other.

You cant wrap up Afghanistan. Its not a project that has a beginning and a delivery date. It is a focus point of inexorable pressure from all directions. You can only pay in gold and blood for the chance to get a slice of the action for a while. If you dont play, then the British or French or Russians or Chinese or Iranians or Pakistanis will. Its been like that for 150 years that Im aware of, and probably a long time before that as well.
