Oroville Dam Update

Tip o'the hat to Jim the Realtor at bubbleinfo.com

LATimes:  The cost of the Oroville Dam spillway failure last February has risen to $870 million, according to a new tally released Friday by the Department of Water Resources that includes $210 million of work done by agency staff and consultants.
...
The concrete did not cure properly, because an outage at the concrete plant caused delays that let hot winds dry the concrete too quickly, the department said.
 -----

Total and complete bullshit.  Concrete does not "dry."  Concrete sets/cures.  It takes decades for concrete to actually dry.  They screwed up the mix.

Hold onto your wallets the price increases are not finished.

This is what lawsuits and/or insurance is for.

Didn't Kali's engineers check s. Or get samples.

This does not include phase 2 that starts next building season. Replacing the temporary side walls and I think some of the roller compacted concrete surface. all the stuff just to get by if the dam exceeds it's limits. As of now it has hardly risen and is way below normal. I also noticed a mix of epoxy coated (green) and bare rusty rebar. depending where the cracks are and what uncoated rebar is used the IMO the cracks are a problem. Money, the unknown and taxpayers. What could go wrong. :)

This is from the National Weather Service...

"A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the mountains and valleys of L.A. and Ventura Counties from 10 PM tonight through Monday afternoon.

Moderate to strong Santa Ana winds will develop as offshore gradients strengthen across the region.

Gusty northeast winds will combine with warm, dry conditions and dry vegetation to bring critical fire weather conditions to portions of Southern California.

Peak wind gusts with Santa Ana winds are expected to rise to 55 to 65 mph over the mountains, and 40-50 mph over the valleys, especially late Saturday night through Sunday morning across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

Temperatures will rise into the 80’s across the valleys Sunday and Monday, with humidities in the teens and isolated single digits.

The warm and breezy conditions will persist through Monday afternoon."

LBD, excellent observations. From the very start the insider contracting and gold plating have been obvious. It took time to reveal the shoddy quality.

Lawyerliz said...

What else is wrong with California?

Lawyerliz said...

More fires maybe?

LBD said...

Here is my short list of what is right with Kali. Great weather and the ocean.

>Great weather and the ocean.

We also have mountains and deserts.

LBD said...

Colorado, Black hills for mountains and Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico for desert. I am a Californian. ;)

Lawyerliz said...

Rain here. This is supposedly the dry season.

Lawyerliz said...

Umm, those aren't California.

Rubio fired his chief of staff. Were the advances unwanted? Are these 2 consenting adults, who have been thrown together by work and have no time to date? Did she say no, and he said ok? It was consenting but they both had spouses and kids? There was a thing were you weren't supposed to date co workers, and I guess there still is. Still, this sounds like it should have been handled privately, and was publicised for political advantage.

What about the casino guy. All that money gives real power. Sounds like a stint in jail would be most appropriate, if you can get him there. Perhaps he should be required to improve his jail so it isn't overcrowded, has decent food for everybody, meaning nourishing, not caviar. A good library, teacher to teach reading and writing to everyone who needs that and a skill so they can get a job. Here they clean the highways. Wynn gets to do that along with everybody else.

Lawyerliz said...

No hair dye for him. No running his business from jail.

Unemployment in Florida is 3.7. Brevard county is a bit less. Some states are 3.5 or less. Dawg, and the rezt, isn't this full employment?

LBD said...

Good Morning!

U-3 still a pretty number not backed up with other data.

I keep wondering how the hot wind cured the concrete so quickly. Did they not control it by spraying water or something on it?

Lawyerliz said...

Wake up and hear the news! The roofers are here. Yay!

I see more help wanted signs each month. Housing is being built again after 10 years, and it's needed. I believe my eyes.

Rob Dawg said...

4% would be full employment if it weren't for the changes in the workplace. Participation rate. Double counting two job part timers. Not in workforce. Increased elderly working.

Lawyerliz said...

The elderly I know want to work.

Lawyerliz said...

Botany black people in Brevard county, but some work for the space program and not as janitors.

Lawyerliz said...

Not many dyac

I work at not having a job. Seriously I like doing my own work and don't need money. Looking at SS pay out figures many need to work due to not understanding the system and the extra effort needed to prepare. Crazy to think they will have enough to get up every morning and play the day away.

On them screwing up the concrete mix.....how many concrete plants in that vicinity could produce enough concrete fast enough to pour the whole spillway, etc? Did they hire the lowest bidder too? Yikes - they better not start over!

Lawyerliz said...

Cold here.

Lawyerliz said...

Just left materials, which they said they would. Actual work supposed to start to day or tomorrow.

Good Morning!

No heat this AM but it's going to hit the 50's. Repairman coming this AM. Looks like a code for a limit switch triggered for the blower.

Oroville Dam has a concrete batch plant on sight.

U6 is 8.1 a couple of months ago it was 7.9 for one month. Ok what should it be for full employment? I vote 6.7.

Lawyerliz said...

And black employment with a 5 handle.

What's wrong with California?
It's a one party state and as corrupt as any one party state in history.
Anyone else notice that Pelosi and Feinstein ( Along with 63 other Dems) just voted to give Trump vastly expanded surveillance powers?
The same Trump they have been calling Putin's stooge?
Law enforcement agencies can now access raw NSA data...
Among other results large LEO agencies won't have to worry about getting their budgets approved.

Lawyerliz said...

And nobody checked for quality, even though it's close by?

Lawyerliz said...

No, I didn't. Why can't I access that data?
