Q3 GDP +3.5 (first estimate)

Dow down another 300 early.

Booker and Clapper latest 'targets' of the #MAGABomber, bringing total to 12. Not the October surprise anyone was expecting - but then again, that's why it's called a surprise.

Lawyerliz said...

Down more correction territory. Will Trump take the blame?. Who are Booker and Clapper?

Lawyerliz said...

Are these bombs explodable?

Firemane said...

Sen. Cory Booker and ex-national intel chief James Clapper.

All of the targets have been vocal critics of Trump, (and he of them).

It's unclear at this point whether the devices are dangerous or just intended to look dangerous. Thus far, none have exploded, but each one is being treated as though it could.

But, they've got one person in custody at this point. Hopefully, it's the nutjob.

Lawyerliz said...

Yep. And it has to do with Florida too.

IMO, just another white guy nut case - little different than the whacko who opened fire on the Republican Scalise or the one who shot Gabby Giffords. Insanity - one of the few remaining truly bipartisan aspects of America.

Good Afternoon!

Nuts need to cling to a cause, religion, politics etc. Hope this is the guy and all tone down the hate.

I have a friend that's right leaning and a little conspiracy nut that says the Dems sent the packages to themselves to rile up the voters. I'm not sure how he thinks that strategy would work and I didn't ask. Left the worm can closed.

On the economic front, several "tepid" reports have hit CR in the last few days.

Pending home sales: "...year-over-year, contract signings dropped 1.0 percent make this the ninth straight month of annual decreases."

"Regional Manufacturing Activity expanded "at a slower pace" in Oct.

"Chemical Activity Barometer "Begins to Cool" in Oct.

"Residential investment (RI) decreased in Q3 (-4.0% annual rate in Q3)." (This from a +3.5 GDP print).

And the Philly Fed "Coincident Index" took a fairly serious 1-month drop (went from 46 to only 40 states showing increasing activity). The 3-month average is still solid (only 5 states fell there).

Mind you - these are pretty nominal changes - but it's been nothing but sunshine and rainbows for so long, it's a little odd to see even equivocation in the economic news. The coincident drop is actually the lowest print since 2010, (though the 1-month can be bounce around a lot between 40-50 during the "good times").

At this point I don't really believe a recession will start in December this year. But, Q1 2019 is still plausible.

Oh, glod the political ads are getting to me. Even when I intend to vote for the person.

LBD said...

Wouldn't be the first time politicians laid a trap like that. Some have done the broken window graffiti trick at their own head quarters then cried wolf.

Things are getting pretty nasty now days on both sides.

Lawyerliz said...

I'm not even thinking nastiness. The repetition alone is crazy making.

Interesting comments about the MEGAbomber here: https://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2018/10/scary-halloween-bombs-to-scare-voters-by-publius-tacitus.html

Zapped by spellcheck? These nutjobs cant be stopped in advance. He didn't use a gun. Those materials can be easily got. Also, that's a fancy van he has. How did he get it?

Lawyerliz said...

And omg, everything starts, .
. . Florida man. .

Lawyerliz said...

This Florida woman is tired of Florida man.

Good Morning!

A lot of nuts are politicians from all over the country. :)

Lawyerliz said...

True. I went to a launch with a bunch of Irish and Canadian people and they insisted their politicians were worse then ours. Hard to believe.

Rob Dawg said...

Different kinds of crazy. Idea! Elected officials should trade jobs for a week. Our Representatives play Member of Parliment and vice versa.

Anyone enjoying the pictures?

No financial advisers ever tell bbn you to sell, and that is continuing. Mine occasionally tells me to rebalance. And another was telling people to save money, and telling people who never saved anything to save a whole bunch.
Those people will never read this, AND will get discouraged by the amounts, AND never save anything. I suggest save 2 or 3 dollars a week plus all your change, and after a year you will have 3 or 400$. And after 2 years. . .

The other one is a blog.

Those who can't teach, those who love to spend money but can't make their own become politicians.

Vouchers for schools and term limits for politicians. Unions and corporations can not make political donations.

We can only wish.

LBD said...

If the government can take 20% of your wages then you can save 20% of them too. Living beyond your means is crazy.

Back to work cheating some one out of a buck.

LBD said...

Yes I like the Pics but if you have some time some RE Discussion would be nice.

Nut with a gun today. :(

Lawyerliz said...

I missed a whole mass shooting because I was reading a ancient Roman mystery book today.😭😟😫

Lawyerliz said...

Yep.

Lawyerliz said...

Zillow has reduced the imaginary value of my house. Hooo-humm.

Lawyerliz said...

Another white male nutjob. What's wrong with you white males?

Lawyerliz said...

A new mass shooting I thought they were talking about the mail bomber, who didn't actually hurt anyone, except for a scare. Nope. Guns kill people.
Watch Bill Maher, and he was quite wrong about many details of the mail bomber, including where he lived and whether he lived with his mother.

LBD said...

Seems Lucky the mail bomber couldn't build a bomb. Just like if a gun jammed. The method of choice may be guns but you still have a defective person acting out.

Lawyerliz said...

You do, but guns are so much more effective. The attacked Dems could rely on the likely stupidity of nutjobs.

LBD said...

Good Morning! Another great day ahead, 78F and sunny!

I assume they had no armed security at their synagogue. Many have gone to defending their rights and safety. The lesson should have been learned by now.

That it's self caters to the effectiveness of the shooter. The insane will always find a way, guns, rental trucks, cars, bombs, fire, etc. Some are not bright and others are amazingly intelligent.

Re: Boat with sailboat and powerboat on top deck
Somewhere in my photo files I have a photo of my brother in laws boat, when previously owned, with a helicopter on the top deck. The boat was built by the BIL's grandfather, uncles and his dad. Launched in 1946 and fished up and down the Pacific coast. I remember when my future father in law sold the boat to a Cat Dealer down in LA. My BIL has spent a shit ton of money restoring it. Too bad I can't post photos.
On a sailboat trip to the Harmony Islands Providential Park in Hotham Sound, there was a power boat there with a blond honey parked on the top deck. Every morning and evening a float plane would come to pickup/deliver the owner. Some guys have all the luck.

Some places where my shirt tail relatives live, armed guards are posted at their houses 24/7. I don't want to live there.

Lawyerliz said...

I don't want to live that way. Has it gotten worse or just seem worse, because there is so much publicity?

Lawyerliz said...

My tuxedo cat is very cuddly today. It's cool here, I have a window open, and she jumps on a sill, then patrols then cuddles. Repeat

LBD said...

I say yes to things have gotten worse. Internet communications are probably the difference. Hate pumping up hate and DIY tools to go with it. The only hope I see is armed undercover guards will deter or shorten the firing time and less harmed or killed. Post signage as to live fire arm security enforced. There is no safe zone anymore. My kids church is big and they have several armed guards part of the congregation.

TJandTheBear said...

Guns have been around forever but these incidents are relatively new historically speaking. Obviously the former aren't the issue.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that 55% of Americans are on some kind of prescription drugs, with opiods leading the charge.

Lawyerliz said...

Or steroids.
