Alban Arthan

Wishing everyone a solemn Alban Arthan as we honor the souls of the trees we sacrifice then deify in our living rooms. Hang the revered kerm-oak, drink the blessed wassail. "Yule" feel so much better. The Norse had the right idea taking 12 days for Jole.

Oh and for all you recent religion adoptees a translation: Christmas, Christmas Trees, holly, sacramental wine and the 12 days of Christmas

Changing the name makes little difference; Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you, too Robert.

I love this time of year with all the boozing, great food and rancid turkey farts, but I'd still rather be in France.

The Europeans treat Christmas as a quiet feast, dignified with a few extra bottles of Champagne and some Oysters and people you actually like popping round for a quick Schnapps before drunkenly ploughing their Mercedes/Citroen/Fiat into a bus queue full of paupers.

They leave their major drunken revelry for Ash Monday and Mardi Gras where they get to shag anything that moves, puke in bed and set fire to the house.

We have much to learn from them.

I like the idea of a mid winter festival (Swedish women apparently dance naked en masse, smeared in goose fat around a pile of crayfish. Or did I dream that?) with a roaring log fire and a glazed duck on the table.

In any event, here we are in sunny CA and life is good!

Time for me to start boozing it up, and eating all the treats my sweet wife and kids are making.

Ho Ho Ho - It's Santa Flipper Clause

Merry Christmas everybody.

Dawg, I just wanted to let you know, from the last post, that NOVA had a factual special on the Great Escape. I never saw the show, but I believe that you can purchase it on their web site.

Furthermore, at the Nuremberg trials, the killing of the largely English and Scottish prisoners was the main evidence against Goering and lead to his death sentence.

Gotta Go, going to be up all night,
Santa F. Clause

P.S. You too, would be full of cheer, if you only worked, one day a year.

As regards Europeans, or rather those other Europeans, or those who have read Orwell and the "Road to Wigan Pier", or know that subset of human beings I tell ya its one drunken time of the year. I link you to a video of Slade:

A friend in Germany reports reading: "Everyone knows that no holiday is complete without fish..." (Guess there's some traditions that didn't survive the trip to these shores...)

Have a nice holiday cod, folks!
