Let me be the first to say, "Very interesting."
It's that $676 for 1081 miles to Boston that's interesting. That's only 60¢ per mile in depreciation and 120 hours of use. Essentially that is at cost. They let you bring it back for them for free.

I have a love/hate going on with Portland. Except for a little too much rain it is geographically ideal. the things i hate about portland are its political and transportation insanity. it confounds me no end that the locals don't understand even the magnitude of the failure of MAX. Love because Metro is elected. Hate because Metro is corrupt and unrepresentative. Love because Portland transportation policies are proving every single one of my theories correct.

BTW, I like that BawldGuy site. I had never heard of it until now, and his views on this debacle are precisely mine: Somewhere between the NAR cheerleaders and the wackos praying for another Great Depression in order to "teach us a lesson."
Overall, I am pleased that this bust is unfolding faster than many people thought. There are plenty of people waiting on the sidelines for values to "rightsize".

I resemble that remark, but I don't care if anyone learns anything or not. Call me "Schadenfreude Man" I just like to watch the suffering of people who richly deserve it. I never get my fill, because the wrong people always end up hurting. I think there will be some stuff worth watching in 2008 though.

Me too. That's quite a bit different than the weirdos who gleefully pray for another Great Depression. A depression would also punish the tens of millions of us who aren't wealthy but live honestly, save part of our incomes and pay our bills on time.
It has been one long depression where I live, and California partied on. They burned through a trillion dollars worth of mortgage grift, and they'll burn through another trillion in bailouts. You have no idea the resentment I harbor. I wouldn't even notice a depression, and I wouldn't care either. Like Californians ever gave a rat's ass about anybody but themselves.

About a quarter of the people in Houston are from Michigan and I like them, except they call Coke "pop" for the first few weeks once they arrive. I grew up seeing the black license plates on our freeways. Rust Belt people are good people. Every Michigander I've met views the Rust Belt as a place that is doomed, so they have moved on with their lives. They miss home, but they realize there isn't much to go back to. They certainly don't blame Californians.
Why should they? The problems in the Rust Belt are unrelated to the housing manias that spring up in California every 10-15 years.

A free-for-all of buying imported goods with mortgage grift has no effect on the rest of the country? Please, California always gets the money first, and they blow it on frivolous crap, destroying the dollar. I wish you-all would start your own country already.
