A quick Oroville Update

Amazing how things that cannot happen do happen.  More amazing is how often cannot be done can be done.  Anyone following the California water issues for longer than a month should be by now fully aware that the safety of the people has been kicked around as a political football.

Is there some hope now?

Unless we are being lied to there is lots of good news. It's sad I have to acknowledge that we might be being misled.

The spillway seems to have stabilized at a weakened condition. The emergency spillway is being armored so it can be used safely. The storm is cold enough to come down mostly as snow.

On a similar note. The same system will be arriving here in VenCo late Thursday. Totals are estimated to be 5-6 inches with 8 inches plus in the usual hills and valleys by Saturday sunrise. I have never seen anything close to this much in as short a period over such a wide area.

That's rain or snow. Would you personally feel safe going back?

Lawyerliz said...

Will this mean drought reducto on so the map is in a lighter color?

Eldest is living nearby to the Southwest atMSL 60'. Sacramento Airport 27'. I'm not even giving it a thought. The region is so flat because it all has gotten flattened out by floods over tens of thousands of years.

At this point you should be shocked that Sacramento is 27' MSL.

Everything I know and suspect compels me to say I would have no problem sleeping in the lowest lying portions of Oroville. That said, I would also make sure I had a bicycle in good working order.

Off topic, but here is an interesting interview with Kucinich which I think lies close to the truth.

..and snowfall in Ventura County?? the end is near!!

Rob Dawg said...

''Tis the rare winter when we don't get snow on the mountains.

I think what you meant to say was...

"some people say this town don't look good in snow...you don't care I know.."

(one of my favorite songs)

sorry that was from "Ventura Highway" by America for those of you new to Earth..

I like the comment they would never have to use the emergency spillway. Why did they build it then. Brain fry!

Unknown said...

we put all our money into a HSR between Fresno and Bakersfield..because you know...Greyhound is a hassle..

Lawyerliz said...

Perhaps they should have an emergency emergency spillway.

Unknown said...

emergency emergency spillway.

we call that "Berkeley"

Who needs water when you have Margaritas!

Rob Dawg said...

Okay. I'll get on Greyhound in Bakersfield tomorrow. You get on the HSR as soon as you can. Let's see who gets to Merced first.

A junior Disaster Area accountant, visiting the shipyard where
this ship was being constructed, had demanded to know of the
works foreman why the hell they were fitting an extremely
expensive teleport into a ship which only had one important
journey to make, and that unmanned. The foreman had explained
that the teleport was available at a ten per cent discount and
the accountant had explained that this was immaterial; the
foreman had explained that it was the finest, most powerful and
sophisticated teleport that money could buy and the accountant
had explained that the money did not wish to buy it; the foreman
had explained that people would still need to enter and leave the
ship and the accountant had explained that the ship sported a
perfectly serviceable door; the foreman had explained that the
accountant could go and boil his head and the accountant had
explained to the foreman that the thing approaching him rapidly
from his left was a knuckle sandwich. After the explanations had
been concluded, work was discontinued on the teleport which
subsequently passed unnoticed on the invoice as "Sund. explns."
at five times the price.

why would you wish "getting to Merced first" on anyone??

Hey have you checked out ELO Zoom on YouTube yet??

If not..next time you're in a nostalgic mood..pour yourself a long cold one..sit back and enjoy..sounds fantastic (chromecast it to your tv if possible)..

It seems to me Kalifornians seem to spend a great deal of time and effort disparaging the location of other Californians. While spending insane sums to live there l.

no Atlantic vs Gulf rift out there Liz...??

Panhandle vs Miami metro??

Cal is messed up..but just normal messed up for just a wide geographic imo..

Lawyerliz said...

No Atlantic vs Gulf, I'd say. The South third of Florida is South America North and to the south third the north 2/3 rds may as well not exist. Parts of Miami and Miami Beach used to be New York south, but that's not so true anymore.
The space coast is a weird combo of redneck and engineer and redneck engineer, with snowbirds thrown in.

I haven't mention the Olde people and tourists. I'm olde, but I aged in place, so don't know if that counts.

ha ha ha

Florida totally represents the US I think..a big old mess..that some how works itself out in the end..

Unknown said...

Good Morning!

75F today! I think the weather man is pushing it a bit. :)

Last time the Illegals tried to strike nothing happened here you could notice. Great way to expose yourself to the public!
