Errr, tell us.more about Salamis. I'd like to garden but it's awful hot.

Lot of sail boat fuel again today!

Man, a post about salamis and 'getting and keeping the girl'..I thought this was a family blog!

A wonderful may day to all.

This was the naval battle following the events stylized in "The 300" and similar storytelling. Persia was on a roll. The Greeks got a break in both Thermopylae and this battle when gains were not consolidated. We might be posting in a different language were it not for this among many pivot points in history.

Loyalty Day!

Oh come on now. How much more could I tailor a post to you replying?

Pleased you got the admittedly obscure connection.

You couldn't log online this weekend without seeing at least one story about the absolute disaster that was Fyre Festival: From the hilarious memes it spawned to the finger-pointing over who was to blame, the story of rich millennials flocking to a privately owned island in the Bahamas to enjoy the luxe-filled experience of a lifetime, only to be met with half-assembled tents, bread and lettuce sandwiches, and no celebrity guests was all-encompassing.

Bwahahah

My middle went to the Coachella Valley Fest paying what seems usury. $550. But for that they got a camping space and camping services and music access for the four days three nights. Not a bad deal.

Lawyerliz said...

Errr, what does that mean?

dodahman said...

Thx, Rob.

Cinco, yu8 milli's?
I will bet that money was real money to some.

I hate the scammers, not the victims here.
FD: I once bought tickets to a concert that never happened. Still pisses me off...

Cinco-X said...

We've bright on a bunch of millennials here... Under 26y/o...I can tolerate a few of them, but most should be working at Starbucks. Many don't seem qualifed to do anything...I kinda like the young engineers, but the others? Bleh

Cinco-X said...

FWIW, they do help subsidized my health insurance. I just wish they would be productive in some capacity

dodahman said...

thx. Give them time to ripen?

Your profile of them applied to many of my coworkers, regardless of age!

waiting to watch our precocious millennials trash Seattle again this evening...cold and rainy though..so may keep the mayhem down

Rob Dawg said...

Love/Hate Seattle/Portland. The youthful energy and freewheeling experimenting. The weirdness plus/minus. The [non]conform or else however...

Unknown said...

yup..it's a weird mix that somehow works

Unknown said...

I live way out in the eastern burbs..so we don't typically get the Seattle weirdness..but yesterday on one of the busier corners..standing in a cold driving rain..there was about 2 dozen "protesters" with BLM signs..as I pulled up to the light I took a good look at them..all female..50ish..white..

file that under..things you'll only see in Seattle (metro)

Rob Dawg said...

> "file that under..things you'll only see in Seattle (metro)"

Or Boston or SF or Santa Monica or...

We know the list. Although in the rain might make the difference.

Although in the rain might make the difference.

I was on my way to a "First Round Matters" rally myself.. ;<)

LBD said...

Well what do they do after they saved the Whales. Rain only show how bad they will punish themselves to make you feel guilty. ;)

ha ha..LBD nails it...as usual

GDP Now with a 4.3% 2Q read?? whoa!!

Rob Dawg said...

There's a reason I don't follow the CalculatedRisk path.

GDP is a ±2% number at any time yet we treat it like gospel. The reason the Fed seeks 2% inflation is exactly because ±2% means no deflation.

Liz asks about this all the time.

LBD said...

Cool article RD.

LBD said...

So we need 4% to be sure we are on the right path? Makes sense considering they control the fluff that goes in to it.

Unknown said...

I think the GDP read is off the previous quarter..so some of that 4+% is because 1Q came in weaker..

Unknown said...

Still..Obama was never able to hit 4+% in eight years..so kind of cool if we get it in Trump's second quarter as Prez..

Unknown said...

actually..it would Be Trumps first full quarter as Prez..

Unknown said...

So we need 4% to be sure we are on the right path?

removing guvvie foot from businesses neck has go to be worth a point or two..right??

Unknown said...

Lame street media is going to hate a 4+% GDP print in Trump's first full quarter as Prez..lol

LBD said...

Kind of hard to give anyone credit at this point really. O,T or the economy doing it's own thing. People want to make money in spite of what the politicians throw at them. O, IMO ran business off and favored the green BS and the banksters.

Good Morning from the Flatlrock!

Cool 59F and a light breeze forecast for today. :)

Foreign Policy Magazine has an article disputing Trump's claim that North Korea's Kim is irrational. The argument is that Kim, like his father and grandfather, is a survivor outlasting dictators like Qaddafi and Hussein. It also mentions that the NK economy is now growing at about 3%. Kim’s strongest opponent is probably the general population. Article is available on Foreign Policy web site.

It's important to protect the First Amendment by denying others their right to free speech

I’m kinda looking forward to Trump’s tweets about the possibility he may be impeached.
From the local NPR station:

It rained, might still be raining lightly.

LBD said...

Should I get impeached for my comments?

Lawyerliz said...

Nah, you should get peached, 'cause you're peachy!!

Lawyerliz said...

Rain! 3 1/4 inches so far.

Rob Dawg said...

Hey Liz. Check your Zillow. After today's Corelogic 7.1% my humble abode is up $1170 per day. Good house.

Lawyerliz said...

Do you have a cash machine that hands out the money? They didn't give me one, unfair.

Lawyerliz said...

Only added a tiny bit. . .. unfair!!!!!

Rob Dawg said...

Dangerous to walk around the house barefoot. I keep tripping over the piles of $20s.

Lawyerliz said...

Hahahahaha

Cinco-X said...

I've seen more than that in under 15 minutes in Florida...

dodahman said...

Car sales missed..I don't see how , given the number of new ones I see all around...

Lawyerliz said...

Last months new cars.

Rob Dawg said...

In addition to lasting longer, cars remain new looking longer it seems. Better paints, plastics and because of the high prices better upkeep.

If my primary residence keeps going up $35,111 every 30 days I just might get that Audi R8 off someone's lease.

Lawyerliz said...

I thought that wasn't real money to you?

Rob Dawg said...

The nice old couple just up the hill listed yesterday. It will be interesting. If they get asking price Zillow might bump me another $100k. It is a bizzaro world that our modest hovels have sale prices that reflect the land value and development potential rather than the home itself. Sadly I expect them to sell above ask to someone who will scrape the sticks and use the existing number of bedrooms as school tax exemption to put up a monstrosity.
