New Dinosaur and other Science stuff

Smithonsian Magazine

The cover of the May, 1996 issue of National Geographic featured an illustration of a dinosaur embryo that was modeled on a batch of 66-million-year old giant eggs discovered in China's Henan Province. Researchers dubbed the little guy “Baby Louie,” but because he was the only dino fossil in his clutch and because the remains of his parents were never found, Louie was a taxonomic orphan—he was never assigned to a species. Now, 20 years later, researchers have determined that Louie is one of a kind, reports Ben Guarino at The Washington Post, and represents an entirely new species of dino.

First Feather Flight of VSS Unity Completed

VSS Unity was piloted today by Mark Stucky and Mike Masucci, with pilots Nicola Pecile and CJ Sturckow as well as flight test engineer Dustin Mosher in WhiteKnightTwo. Today’s test flight was the fourth glide flight (and eight flight overall) of VSS Unity, and the 227th flight of WhiteKnightTwo VMS Eve.

Once data reviews are complete, we will move forward with our testing program—pressing onward with additional glide flights designed to expand our envelope of flight weights and centers of gravity.

Cool Flight.

Off grid solar or wind is just another hobby job. I keep looking at it but it takes a lot for my toys.

How can they know he was one of a kind?

Rob Dawg said...

I think they mean only example ever found.

Lawyerliz said...

I am not and never have been on any social media. AND when It asks me if I want to share my location I always say no. How did me phone know I was at Long Horn steak house yesterday? It's scary.

LBD said...

GPS tracker on your phone. I look at Amazon for something and it pops up on FB for weeks. Same for Ebay. To drop out now you need to get rid of all electronics.

Lawyerliz said...

Prolly, but that's not really what they said. If he was with a bunch of eggs, with no embryos, prolly they were his sort who emerged from the eggs and went off to do their thing

Lawyerliz said...

Can I send a fake location? That is, if I knew how to do that?

Lawyerliz said...

Can I make a tinfoil hat for my phone?

Lawyerliz said...

Or got eaten.

Rob Dawg said...

On the Mac I allow location for shopping or directions. Pretty safe and easily turned back off. Phones are tougher.

Lawyerliz said...

It was supposed to rain tonight, so i.went out to perform a rain dance by watering the back yard and it succeeded. It's now raining hard!! Yay for me.

Lawyerliz said...

Faraday cages were suggested.

Rob Dawg said...

That's what the machines want you to think. And once they have us all in cages...

Lawyerliz said...

Will they feed and amuse me?

Lawyerliz said...

Now, I have to fertilize.

Lawyerliz said...

Up another 100$. I know, a 2$ marigold raises values 25!!!

Lawyerliz said...

Just think of what a new roof will do. Or painting.

Lawyerliz said...

Hey, is anybody out there?

Just finished BBQ teriyaki flank steak. Yum! Movie night.

Unknown said...

The only proper movie after BBQ flank steak is Texas Chainsaw Massacre..

LBD said...

Never seen it, probably won't. Tonight's feature is Collateral Damage. Wife picks them I don't have a clue about recent movies. :)

The original was pretty good..stay away from the sequels

re: on-topic

"Science"..what is that..is that the thing the Dims use to ram their social agenda down out throats??

Unknown said...

"our throats"

Unknown said...

missed the last thread..but absolutely we are in a sort of "civil war"..libs understand their policies suck and few rational Americans would vote for them so they have flooded the country with 30 million illegals.

and along came Trump..and they hate him.... hahahaha

Unknown said...

...and if I'm wrong..maybe Liz can articulate why Dims are so violently against building a wall along the border...where so much drug and human traffiking occurs

Unknown said...

if Liz is up to the challenge..make the case for why we shouldn't have a huge, impenetrable border between us and Mexico..given how much human and drug trafficking occurs right now..

In the book "Chaos Monkeys", the CEO of an Advertising accessory start up points out that many social media users worry that they are being spied upon and that digital companies collect data to find out what you are doing, thinking, etc. Companies like Twitter, Facebook, or Google for the most part view data collection a little differently: They (Twitter, etc.) spend billions of dollars to create the best "user experience" so you will use their website. They don't charge you for the "user experience" but collect data on what you do on their web site instead.
Generally they compile this data and organize it in a useful way for sale to companies in the advertising business or whose clients are in the advertising business. Advertising companies and agencies try to monetize this data (creating ads) to try and get you to use their products and services. Twitter in most cases doesn't care what you are doing, since they only try to put the data in a usable form for their ad clients.
Facebook and Twitter also have ad analyzing and monetizing units within the company, but most of their business, IIRC. is selling data to others.
(No company that sells heavy winter coats and boots wants to pay for data on Liz nor send her ads since they know she lives in Florida.)

Before 2010, the greatest source of information on you,and your mother's and father's buying habits was collected by direct mailers. Their information on you and your family goes back at least to the 1940's.

Unknown said...

what's your point Walt??

Lawyerliz said...

It's imposssible.

On the other hand prosecution of those who illegally hire is pissible. Word would get back

Lawyerliz said...

I'm leaving the typo!

Lawyerliz said...

Immortality! I'd prefer heaven, if it was out there

Unknown said...

so if we could build a 99% effective border wall you would be ok with that??

just wondering..because many libs consider any kind of wall "racist"..

Lawyerliz said...

All this gives me an intense desire to go all cash.

Lawyerliz said...

The people and drugs would find a new way to sneak in.

Better--find out why people need the drugs and adjust accordingly.

Convince the Mexicans to adopt a one child family policy for a while. What would make Mexicans and other South Americans happy where they are. Ask them. Do that.

Unknown said...

earth to Walt..

Rob Dawg said...

With illegal border CRossinGS down 70% the Mexicans are already paying for the stronger border.

Unknown said...

Liz is the sanest liberal I know..was hoping to get an argument why we shouldn't seal that border off..

Unknown said...

Mike, Data collection is used only to sell you something. If there's no money in it, data users don't care what you do.

Lawyerliz said...

I like Cubans.

You can't build a wall on the ocean.

12 million Cubans can't fit in South Florida.

Cubans have already made it up to parity. Haitians are well on their way. Even white bigots admire Hatians for being so determined and hard working once they get here.
Various stripes od South Americans are prejudiced against each other for reasons that escape me.
I don't get this Mexican thing.

Unknown said...

I have ad block..so they aren't selling me anything

but thanks for responding..that's the way these forums work best..the give and take..laughs and tears..let's engage with each other..

Lawyerliz said...

And I think T very well may have Alzheimers. Ask the Mexicans here what would have impelled them to stay there.

Do that, if you dont want them here.

Unknown said...

really Liz...we aren't talking about Cubans..

it's a border wall with Mexico..take a stand..yes or no

Lawyerliz said...

Also, spend a whole lot of money on curing or preventing Alzheimers, w j ich should be done anyway. A big motivating prize?

Unknown said...

Trump is fine..

you may have issues

Lawyerliz said...

No. What's wrong with Mexicans?
The wall wouldn't work. Great migrations have never been stopped without war and murder. What do think the Romans were doing for centuries? The Chinese Wall stopped working long long ago.

Unknown said...

let's say a wall would work..

would you support that??

simple question..but get's to your motives..

Lawyerliz said...

Everybody has issues. Remember I met the hub at a Goldwater meeting. I'm more of a bull Mooser than anything else.

Unknown said...

well..we're talking about the Mexican border and you bring up Cubans. Then you accuse Trump of having Alzheimers.

Do you have a good argument for not sealing off the Mexican border??

Lawyerliz said...

If you tell me what's wrong with Mexicans. Upper class Columbia's are snooty. Had one as a secy. My former secy says Nicaraguans are sluts. I have no idea.
How do we keep Chinese out?

You want me to argue on your terms and I don't wanna.

Thank you for calling me a sane liberal, tho I'm not. Very flattering. The hub says it costs too much.

Lawyerliz said...

Really like Teddy R.

Lawyerliz said...

What's wrong with Mexicans?

Unknown said...

I have no problem with Mexicans..or any other country. Once they illegally cross into the US (or overstay their visas).. I have a problem..

Lawyerliz said...

Maybe we should invade Mexico and try to fix them!!!!

Unknown said...

How do you feel about Mexicans (or others) who have illegally entered the US..Liz??

Rob Dawg said...

Mexico has been using the US to avoid addressing their own problems.

Rob Dawg said...

You mean repay the favor?

Unknown said...

yes..you have no defense..do you??

They clean your toilets..and vote (illegally) for your party...

We're on to you..not going to happen going forward

Lawyerliz said...

People from CalI tell me how people talk about Mexicans. I look at them blankly. Nobody talks about Hispanics in South Florida like that. We get illegals from everywhere. There's no groundswell. To kick out illegal Haitians, who sometimes bring tropical diseases with them. I think it's something about Mexicans. And the Wall would also have to be far less expensive too.

Lawyerliz said...

Nope my every 3 weeks maids are usually white and black. There are few Mexicans in South Florida. I intuitively don't want a wall. When I figure out why I'll let you know.

Lawyerliz said...

Nitey nite. Thanks for the conversation.

Unknown said...

Well..I'm guessing there are plenty of people in Florida who would object to the onslought of illegal immigrants..

but back to the Mexican border...are you saying your concern is economics rather than philisophical..because you kind of give off this "open borders" vibe..which is fine...just state it if you will.

Unknown said...

dang..we lost our one liberal on the board..

Walt..you still around??

LBD said...

Taking illegal Cubans with "wet foot dry foot" was insane. It only help Castro from failing by taking the excess pressure off. Illegals from anywhere are not acceptable, Mexico has been the biggest offender for decades. Plug the biggest hole in the bucket first.

Unknown said...

Is it me..or do they never answer the question(s) presented to them??

If I were asked questions..I would try my best to answer directly and articulate my answers/positions back..that makes for a good debate.

Instead..I ask about Mexico..and I get a weird answer back about Cuba..

yeah...Trump's the problem..

Unknown said...

one thing I noticed..liberals will never ask conservatives to explain their positions/philosophies...because..that may evolve into a debate..which may cause them to question their own beliefs.

Can't have that..

Unknown said...

Unknown said...

it's a simple question..

if you could snap your fingers and seal off the US/Mexico border from illegal entries..would you do it??

I guarantee most Dims would say no..because they see benefit from a porous border..

LBD said...

I never seem to understand the new liberal point of view. Telling me I'm racist is not even the problem nor my view. I don't want illegal Europeans here they are where my descendants came from.

Good Night!

Unknown said...

I they've gone completely insane LBD...

you ask a question of them..you get a non-response or a personal attack..

Rob Dawg said...

The interesting thing is a border with Mexico has no racial component. It isn't transparent to whites of non Hispanic heritage.

Rob Dawg said...

Lately it has been attacks even when you don't engage them.

Unknown said...

30 million illegals in this country...gonna be interesting

Unknown said...

Lately it has been attacks even when you don't engage them.

picture them siting at their computer wearing their v****a hats (redacted to maintain G rating)...that should put things in perspective...

Lawyerliz said...

I understand the conservative position, so I don't need an explanation. I've read Atlas a number of times and then it got unreadable.
Good morning.😀
The are a number of things that seem to work, like trickle down, that actually don't. They say they wanted to balance the buget and Clinton did that. What they really wanted was not to pay taxes, and the n hell with the balancing. Reducing taxes and increasing receipts happened only once, with Kennedy. Unusual circumstances. Won't happened again, but it sounds easy and pleasant. Austerity sounds like it should work, but it doesn't. At the being, the American Revolutionaries though we should be a light to the world of Liberty and prosperity. How do we do that?

Cubans took a second rate city and turned it into a marvel. They have been a great advantage.

I will add that personally, I don't like middle easterners, because the way they treated me as a woman, and didn't wear deodorant. North African immigration is Europe's problem, which they don't seem to be solving.
Desperate determined people are not going to be all that respectful of American law. Why don't they go after employers? Because they are rich and our laws don't work so well against the rich?
And I understand many fewer Mexicans are coming over, so the problem is diminishing.

Lawyerliz said...

I dont n like gated communities either, for what that's worth.

LBD said...

Happy Mothers day and Good morning!

Do you have locks on your doors and windows? Gated communities like I lived are no different. My neighbor was successful Mexican immigrant child, a black lady on the corner, Asians, Indian, pretty much all represented.

Aurora Colorado has a very big North African community. How immigrants enter the county and their motives need to be controlled.

Lawyerliz said...

Happy Mothers day to all you mothers♡♡♡☆♡.

Unknown said...

Is Trump going to tattle on the North Koreans and tell the big bad Chinese about the missile test yesterday?

I love his "foreign policy" or lack there of.

Lawyerliz said...

Yeah, but we don't lock them when we are here. I like to take walks and I feel like I'm being shut out.

LBD said...

NK is wasting all the the toys in the box, why stop him now. When he really gets close then take the toy box out. He either quits or has to start over. IMO.

Lawyerliz said...

I don't think he is lying any more. I think he can't remember for 10 minutes what he said. This is scarier than lying to me. So far, things have turned out ok because his handlers and the courts have prevented the worst or nudged him in the right direction. Except health care, and it has to get through the Senate. People do like being told they are great whether true or not.

Cinco-X said...

I like Cubans too, but perhaps that's because they voted Republican for much of my life...I actually don't have an issue with Mexicans either. Of all of the immigrants that come here, they should be first in line for the low skilled slots because they're actually Native Americans. That said, we do need the border regulated.

Lawyerliz said...

Looking at very expensive homes in newspaper. Realizing I wouldn't want any of them. Oceanfront 4/3/2 1/2acre set pretty far back. 1.7m $. Cheap fir kali, I guess.

"When he really gets close then take the toy box out" has been the policy for the the past twenty years.
