A different View of California

Not the usual shape.  Political boundaries rarely respect geography.  This is a representation of the hydrological State.  And yes, before you ask, that tiny kidney bean of remaoining extreme drought is me.  In the south a bit is ceded to Arizona.  A bit is added from southern Nevada which i don't exactly understand while a bit more is given back up around Lake Tahoe.  Eastern Oregon gets pasted on up north not that there is anyone to notice.

Youse guys are great.

I have no idea why blogger was choking on my posts today but I have a West LA "crapshack" and "Floriduh" and American Community Survey string of posts set to auto post this weekend. Let's see how it goes.

I don't suppose anybody down there thought to build some additional storage reservoirs during the drought years...

Mike, that would be the smart thing to do. Not going to happen.

I was screaming for something better. Bulldozers are cheap. We should have been de-silting the existing reservoirs by the cubic mile. But yes, CA has been lagging water storage v population since Governor Brown. Pat Brown.

No additional water storage to take advantage of these rainy years..but high speed rail between Fresno and Bakersfield we've got!!

Get this. The subsidence in the Central Valley is still getting worse. The California Aqueduct is down more than 2 feet in places reducing capacity by a lot more than you might imagine. Those farmers overpumping the groundwater and saving themselves millions of dollars are going to cost us all hundreds of millions in repairs/upgrades.

You insulted Floriduh. It's Floridah.

Lawyerliz said...

I guess you can't stop them from doing that.

Lawyerliz said...

Why not just give them some millions of dollars so they stop?

As long as they keep those delicious almonds coming...

We were watching zDana Carvey. He looks exactly the same as he did decades ago.

Liz, if you insist upon making sense I'm going to have to ask you stop discussing California.

I'm watching ELO in concert (circa 2001 via YouTube)...sounds great!!

Rob Dawg said...

I liked ELO in high school. Simpler times.

I forgot how many great songs they have..Jeff Lynne is really a musical genius.

Check out the Zoom tour concert on YouTube if you get a chance..

I just can't help it. Floridah makes more sense. When hurricanes threaten, we know to strip the grocery store shelves bare. I doubt they do in Kali. In fact the grocery Stores have extra stuff to load the shelves down again. Maybe twice, even. And gas stat ions are supposed to have at least one pump that is not electrical. Also the authorities have all the lanes out bound so more can escape.

Some people have shutters! Some have blue tarps ahead of time!

Lawyerliz said...

Some have generators.

I like those trained alligators you can take selfies with..

Is your nickname "Lefty?"

Nota Bene. If you know enough to buy supplies just in advance of an earthquake then you should bet in the markets instead.

We as you know, get warnings. Lots of warnings for weeks before and even afterward, rarely the loop around. Warnings, until you are sick of them.
