Murst for Marin!

Here's a correlation: The denser the population, the bubblier the mania.

When is the PBS pledge drive going to fucking end?
Just survived American Experience's quintessential Boomer "Summer of Love" program that I was not paying much attention to.
Wasn't that 40 years ago? When are the Boomers going to accept the fact they are old fucking pain in the ass overly-consuming Social Security disasters. No matter how much Botox and shit they shoot into their face and body, they are fucking over and I'm sick and tired of watching these praise the Boomer for dropping acid bullshit crap during PBS pledge drives.

Don't harsh my mellow, man.

Never. I dread the day 10-20(?) years from now when Social Distortion and Jane's Addiction (along with special guests Stone Temple Pilots!) appear during the PBS begathon in front of a mass of 55+ AARP members who sit there tapping their toes.

I dread it, but I know it's coming, and it's better to witness this than the alternative, which is not witnessing the inevitable. Neil said it's better to burn out than fade away, but I disagree. I'd rather live a long life and see the absurdity.

Thank God for Planet Earth DVDs and 50' plasmas and lemon zinger herbal tea and overstuffed leather couches. When I see those pledge drives and I just crank up my copy of DVDpedia
and pick something educational like Alf Tales or Dementia 13 or the aforementioned Planet Earth series.

Obviously those are averages for the entire cities in question. According to www.city-data.com (excellent resource btw), my zip code here in L.A. is over 21,000 per sq. mi. Believe it or not it's still relatively quiet, or else I've become desensitized to it.

Of course there are zips in Manhattan with over 80,000 per sq. mi.

PBS? Pledge Drive? How quaint!

I simply pay my cable bill at the end of the month and that takes care of everything.

The last decent thing on PBS was Ken Burns' "Baseball".

Full Disclosure: My sister worked for PBS shows, "Moneyline" and "Wall Street Week".

They paid shit. She'd have made more money as a welder or plumber.

Shades of Spinal Tap! That's one helluva big plasma TV.

PS If you don't like PBS, change the station. Watch the Dexter Christmas special, for fuck's sake. Hmm... did I get up on the wrong side of the bed this AM?

I love the wisdom of Alf. What a goofy show that was. One of my favorite interviews ever was when Isaac Asimov interviewed Alf, when asked "What is the most valuable thing in the universe?" he answered "Foam"

Akubi: I feel your pain. Nothing worse than tuning in to PBS to watch Mystery!, looking forward to the next episode of "Foyle's War" or "Touching Evil", but hearing:

" . . . and we'll be getting right back to 'Tenor Biscottarotti Sings the Forgotten Italian Opera Classics', but first, we'd like to hear from you! And what will our viewers be getting for their pledge?"

"Well, we've got this beautiful collector's mug that . . . "

I've always wondered if there is any way to make a donation to PBS for the express purpose of keeping the pledge drives off the air.

And by the way, I think the pledge drives are PBS basically holding their own station hostage until viewers cough up the ransom money to get the real programming back on the air. They know perfectly well that people tune in for the documentaries, the costume dramas, and British sitcoms, so they intentionally keep those off the air and bombard viewers with musical reviews and self-help lectures until they get their money.

Still, it beats network TV. Other than "The Office", there hasn't been anything worth watching on network TV since "Arrested Development" went off the air.

Guilty pleasures. Come on admit it. When one of the the twins comes on and starts in on the distinctive claws foot design of a colonial secretary you start thinking, $190,000 unless it has been refinished then $75,000.

Gordon Shumway, bouliabaseball, cats as a delicacy; comic genius.

The densities listed in the chart are for Urban Areas.

Last PBS fundraising drive I suffered through was WGBH's in Boston.

Now, the "Celtic Woman" group is exceedingly easy on the eyes,

and I'm not at all against Gaelic singing, and I do realize that Boston has a higher-than-average Irish ethnic population, but I would offer that WGBH inflicting it on it's viewers for 20 hours a day, interspersed with 4 hours of video begging was
just a wee bit much.

I miss AD. :(

If you haven't seen it, try "Reaper". Quite funny. Not the same humor as AD, but rather twisted in it's own way.

Rob where are you defining the urban boundaries? Is it actual municipal booundaries or CMSA? I live in the NYC metro area but the density in my municipality is 117/sq mile.

Rob Dawg said...

I have a preference for the largest practical cachement; UA or Urbanized Area. The reason is because of lying jerks like Portland who refuse to include developed areas in their spheres of influence and yet bring in far flung rural tracts to keep their supply of developable land in compliance with the law.

I'm not seeing a correlation. I tried using the OFHEO numbers, and still not seein' it.

Akubi said...

I'd take Forgotten Opera Classics or Celtic Woman over Summer of Love and Dr. Dwayne Dyer spouting pseudo-spiritual platitudes while barefoot on stage with a soothing tea garden set in the background. That guy annoys the hell out of me. Why one would ever buy "Change Your Thoughts—Change Your Life" when they can pick up the Tao Te Ching (without his crappy interpretation) at their local library is beyond me.

Or harkening back to the good old days of the tech bubble when the office provided free sushi for lunch and one thought those stock options just might be worth something...

50" plasmas beg for hi def.
Last night's cowboy/packer game on NFL-HD was awesome. I had a better view of Romo then T.O.
Plug in a 5.1 surround sound processor for 3 dimensional cheering/hitting and you are at the game but money you save on all those $7 beers pay for the system in no time. :>)

What kills me is the Orange Country housewives/whores show. What a bunch of arrogant douchebags. God I'd love to see the earth open up and swallow every one of those whining bitches and their privledged pinhead spawn.

I cannot wait for a couple of them to get tossed from their homes cause they can't pay for the lifestyle they have been living after an ARM reset.

Had to get the cars inspected this week. Got done with my gas guzzling suv and swapped cars with the little lady to get that one done. She is into Gun Smoke & horse shit (eg country and western) music. Anyways, this radio ad comes on saying some singer is doing a benefit concert for the people of the fires in So Cal. Know what? Nobody back east cares about folks with burned out 2.5 million dollar pill boxes perched on slippery hills waiting for a rain/fire/shake after seeing those bitches flanting it every night in high def.

Sorry, but these reality shows are jading the rest of the US.
