¿Que Pasa?

From the LATimes:
Discord roils L.A. Unified parent panel

Acrimony with racial overtones has plagued the advisory council. The key issue: whether meetings in Spanish should be allowed.

For months, parents on a Los Angeles Unified School District advisory council have disagreed over whether their meetings should be conducted in Spanish or English. Such arguments became so abusive that district officials canceled meetings for two months and brought in dispute-resolution specialists and mental-health counselors.
...
Friday's chaos had been building since February, when Fonseca, who is bilingual, started to give his chairman's report in Spanish. Some in the audience objected; arguments and recriminations ensued, and school police rushed over amid concerns that a fistfight would break out, witnesses said.

----

The money quote: "Many parents serving on local school councils don't speak English."

I hate to say it but it's stuff like this that makes me want to vote for Ron Paul. We need better border enforcement.

mental health counselors? What the hell good are they going to do? They'll be as useful as that dumb empath in Star Trek next generation

Council member "I am going to read this is spanish"
Other council member "bullshit you are!"

Mental health counselor "I sense anger, anoyone want to talk about it?"

Just make them have to prove citizenship at the door and this problem will be taken care of pretty fast.

Given the LAUSD's makeup the argument is more likely between Spanish and Ebonics not Spanish and English. Dey be talkin' all Messican 'n' sheet and lil LaTeesha and LeRoy ain't gettin' no proper edumacation.

Pleather, that issue was touched upon in the article. The real pressure is in divvying up the filthy federal lucre. in the past "disadvantaged" mean African-American. Now it means illegal immigrant.

Wait until later today. I'll be top posting my position strongly in favor of drivers licenses for illegals. It is only fair.

I will post mine, Dawg. IMO, drivers licenses are mug shots and tracking devices for one and all, especially illegals.

The solution is clear to me :)
We need to invent a totally new language and mandate that everyone learn to speak, read and write this new language within 5 years.

Why do you "hate to say it?"

Sounds like a very moderate response, given the circumstances.
