"Open Snow" is another good website..local reports from the various ski locations across the west..the guy who covers Tahoe is especially good...
The dam is safe again?
OnTheSnow is good as well.
California will squander this windfall as always, just letting them kick the can further down the road. The reservoirs have been refilled but the aquifers are another matter entirely. IMHO this year's a blip in the longer overall drought.
I am happy that the ancient redwoods, etc. have gotten a good drink this year. The drought was beginning to threaten them.

If this is a hoax it fooled me:

Seems true:

looks like they are evacuating...
This is 50k people. Why no TV coverage?
This is what I said yesterday, I saw a leakage downstream which indicated the dam was being undercut. The curse of being Cassandra.
How much water/rain would it to refill the aquafers, say 10%?
Lord. Pogo comes to mind on a who lot of levels
30 vertical feet at the top of the spillway, Sacbee. It's uncontroled, it's uncontrolled.. . . Geeze
Well we wouldn't want to scare people . . . With reality. . . Or anything.
If it's that undercut, it will be a low more than 30 vertical feetm

It's coming over the dam in an adjacent place which is weakening the entire structure. A large chunk of earth could just slough off at this stage.
I'm scared and I've never been to Kali. All this weight moving around can't have a good effect on potential quakes.
Everyone understands that the Dam is 700 feet high. Seven hundred. Not a mistype. The way the emergency spillway is designed I can see an inelegant failure. Liz, ask your hubby what that means to an engineer. The simple lip creates an undercut situation. Bad.
Continuous local coverage:

"Could fail within the hour".
Naturally all the evacuation routes are stacked, packed and... barely moving.
Eldest in Woodland says they expect a "flood" of evacuees. Apparently they are the SW safe destination.
160,000 evacuating..yikes
Storms in the watershed Wed, Fri and Sun. 🍿
Well that's good for eldest. Weren't the authorities saying no prob a short time ago.?
Now it's 188k. Do we believe these same people when they say the dam is sound?
Helucters are dumping boulders into the spillway damage.
Helicopters
New post? People escaped?
Good Morning!
Looks like the dam held. They need to build more for safety sake as well as the need to grow the water reserves.
I turned off autopost until I figure out why some images aren't rendering. Getting a late start as this is a school holiday and don't have to push the baby bird out of the nest so early.
