Best Example of a Mid Century Ever?

This is one of those times you have to click and scroll through the pictures.  Worth every penny of the $3m asking.

774 Calle Del Norte

 Even the listing is classy:

Conrad Buff, F. A. I. A and Donald Hensman, F. A. I. A. , 1979 | The Daily Residence. When discussing the location and design of their ideal house with the architects who later became lifelong friends, the Daily family expressed that their house must be balanced and practical while blending in naturally with their three-acre site overlooking the Las Posas Valley. The results evolved into an unobtrusive, organic design emerging from the gentle hillside with views of the quilted patchwork of agricultural fields and the Topa Topa Mountains. Buff & Hensman's careful application of glass, gunite, clear heart redwood, teak, and aggregate delineates the division between built and natural environment. Each window and glass door serves a dual function: allowing light and access while simultaneously framing the verdant, bucolic setting. Repeating the centralized theme of natural materials found outside, the Great Room serves as the heart of the home offering dining, living, and family room. As such, the genesis of each room of the house originates with the Great Room, providing a centralized arterial flow thus creating connectivity and synthesis within the over 4,300 square foot house. 5 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms surrounded by the Las Posas Country Club and Golf Course.

very little 'organic' in that design, but plenty of BS in the description...so maybe that qualifies?

Ok, looked at one picture which has slabs of concrete or somethhint like it with neat greenergy between them. Lovely. I have a very minor version of that and do you know how much effort is required to keep it looking like that? At least a full time gardener, for that and the lush perfect grass. And industrious maid service at least twice a week for all that square footage if not full time.

Looks rather like a castle. I dunno are castles organic? I don't happen to like great rooms either. Please, at least separate dining.

Mid century is not for everyone. Personally I dislike Tudor. In person it is far more friendly. The rooms draw you in and then out. The organic comes from how well inside and outside blend. They planted the vines only a few years ago.

Nobody on any media is rejoicing about black unemployment dropping to 7.3. Yeah, it could be, should be lower, but that is a huge drop.

Cinco-X said...

Is it grass fed BS?

Lawyerliz said...

Some are referring to what we have at present as full employment. I think it needs to be somewhat lower. Any thoughts. More to the point. . . . . .. . . . . Is anybody out there???

Rob,
Did you get hail last night?

Rob Dawg said...

Sorry, Tom and I were on the phone for a while. Sonoma is interesting. Ventura is interesting. Tom is interesting.

No Cinco. We got a lightning strike. Flash/boom with nary a time lag. Close. Then big fat -cold-, really cold, drops then clearing. The ski cabin got a dusting of snow. Enough to stick to the street for a bit. That's 6k ft altitude however.

Lawyerliz said...

So, tell us why.

Lawyerliz said...

Even the WSJ said nothing about black unemployment being so low. Paper copy at eye doc's.

Lawyerliz said...

Nobody home. Sigh.

LBD said...

I just got home. :)

Lawyerliz said...

Yay!

dodahman said...

I think it is pretty, just not 'organic'. And it should be pretty at that price. I think you ought to buy it, Rob.

Maybe gas fed organic?

The living room, dinning table looks like the Holiday Inn decor we just stayed at. I would rather have a new Prevost and some left for fuel money. Some of
those now cost more then $2.5MM.

Lawyerliz said...

What's a Prevost?

LBD said...

Very expensive motor home.

Lawyerliz said...

I Google and found one for a mere 1.5 million.

Rob Dawg said...

For $1.5m I bet it won't drive itself to Yellowstone or the edge of the Mammoth caldera.

Lawyerliz said...

Nope. You could hire s driver.

LBD said...

Crazy but look at how many roll down the road and the depreciation. That is why the whole house price thing makes no sense to me.

The new series "American Gods" has a great exchange. "Keep your skim to 5%." "I'd never steal from you boss." "If you won't look out for yourself how the hell can you look out for me?"

We have changed and not for the good.

Good Morning!

Zillow said my house didn't go up in value while I was gone. Some thing must be wrong RRE always goes up! :)

Rob Dawg said...

Zillow says only +$985 yesterday. Time to return the Rolex.

Lawyerliz said...

Much chopping done. Butterfly plants next.

Lawyerliz said...

Mine stayed the same too Zillow taking a break!

Lawyerliz said...

Son's went up quite a bit, but I'm not quite sure what is was last time I looked.

Rob Dawg said...

New post.

and Liz, I'm working up an employment race/age/gender post for a few days from now.

Lawyerliz said...

Well, watered and planted the butterfly attracting sees. I don't tust seeds. You never know if they will grow or not.

Lawyerliz said...

Excellent.

Lawyerliz said...

And tell us what you think full employment would be. It's kind of a curse because if you look at the charts, it doesn't stay low very long before it starts cycling up again.

Cinco-X said...

I'm calling a top!!!

2 1/2 hours of gardening and it hardly looks like I did anything bleh.
