Tesla has an Antecedent

Long time readers know I have good instincts for when something is wrong.  They also know I really want historical parallels to bolster my suspicions.  Tesla bothers me and I finally remembered why.  Chrysler and the convertible.  Convertibles had disappeared for a generation due to a great number of  reasons.  Chrysler took a chance and a mediocre car with a horrible cloth top became an instant success.  There was so much pent up demand that even a clunker sold.  That's what we have with the Model 3.  Sales projections are being based on preorders.  Pentagon up demand for feel good eco transportation. The automobile portion of Tesla is likely to suffer the same fate as Chrysler.

I eagerly await the unemployment claims report, due out at 8:30.

Market Watch sez that Biotechnology and Financialnay keep the bulls live until 2018 or 2019 .. I agree. But then we are toast. . In my opinion.

It would have been a disaster if Ossoff had won. Everyone would be saying it takes millions to win. Better this way.

Certainly no later than that. The Tech rotation was mild and interesting. Until Amgen stock starts acting like Tesla stock there is upside room.

Oooo--Oooo

Now they are going do the tax overhaul in private. No lower level Republican Congesspersons alowed. Some, at least, are annoyed. We are truly an oligarchy.

Lawyerliz said...

And maybe the framers intended that. They were really worried about "leveling". And universal manhood suffrage. Dreadful. (No women n or blacks allowed.)

People heard Trump wrong. He said "electrify" which doesn't mean the same thing.

Almost a week in Denver and burbs, no sign of a TESLA, except in the showroom. Did see a Volt and there seams to be a lack of Prius on the road. America needed that K car with fake wood side and rag top. Pent up demand comes and goes.

Highlight today was a tour of the Furniture Row racing facility. Wow! The bucks spent just on body jigs is amazing. I felt like an acolohic at nickel beer night. No pictures except in the trophy room. Funny thing is I got two offers to crew chief this week.

Topped it off with dinner a Magianno's, Filet on asparagus, mushroom risotto. Finished with a slice of nine layer cake.

I've never seen a Tesla.

Space X is launching about 2 today. They ate leasing more land to build an additional building. That's what billionaires are for. Nimbys will prolly oppsose any new houses being built for the engineers to live in.

Good Morning!

From hot to cold and rain.

There is a TESLA with county plates back home. Seriously by now I would expect to see more electric cars running around a big city.

What is there to discuss about Trump? Repubs didn't want him and the dems are burning themselves down to fight him equals gridlock as I expected. Comey dog and pony show is over, Russia thing is about worn out, Obummer disrupters are being weeded out. He has to work with the swamp he has not the one he wants.

I wish more folks would start posting.

I see Tesla's a fair amount around here, from the METRA parking lot in Northbrook (very upscale neighborhood), to my lowly far north 'burbs. Can't understand the practicality of owning a $100K car that barely goes 300 miles. I frequently take trips to visit the kids down south and put 850 miles under my belt in a day. Give me a used small SUV (I have a 2007 CR-V) for around $15K and I'll pocket the change.

Not too bad weather wise here, of course the shootings continue -
"Teen boys among 13 wounded in city shootings"

And there is always the dysfunctional legislature -
"Day Two of the Illinois General Assembly's special session wound down Thursday without passage of a state budget. Surprised?"

Not surprised, no one gets reelected taking back the free cookies. More taxes, fees and creative accounting may buy more time. Maybe?

Hot here. Consecutive over 100 degree days. Luckily it cools at nite, but not until late. Running the cooler...keeps it at 75 inside. My black cat disappeared...he was my buddy. Drove 60 miles into nearest town to pick up two black kittens. They are playing already. Otherwise I could have gone into a deep depression.

Healthcare costs look too be about 10% of GDP. If we reduce them by 20%, that would be a 2% hit to GDP, and would put us into recession territory.

Cinco-X,

Denninger stated exactly that when laying out his plan.

TPTB won't make truly major changes because this Jenga economy's already teetering and they don't want it coming down on them. Notice how quickly Trump's turned into a defender of the status quo? Amazing 180 on so many fronts (but still better than Hillary).

At present I'm just happy that none of DC types can seem to find their own asses with two hands and a flashlight, meaning they won't do even MORE damage and the system can collapse of it's own weight.

ROBERT,

Ever get down the Diamond District? I started buying nice trinkets there for my lady way back in the late 80's, when it was packed to the gills with independent dealers. It's been in a steady decline ever since, probably down by ~70% over those 30 years.

Interested to hear your perspective on that.

https://nationalaffairs.com/publications/detail/envisioning-a-constitutional-restoration
*Neither party, at this point, is asking the basic questions that will be required to recover our proper constitutional balance. Rather than asking only what policies should be pursued, we should inquire also what type of country we will become and whose principles will dominate it through majority rule. Rather than a commanding president and a managerial Congress, we need a debate over what Kendall called the "destiny and perfection of America and of mankind." And this, he added, ultimately amounts to a contest "between American conservatives and American liberalism" at its deepest level.*
