Home Prices Interactive

In terms of how the overall housing market has been doing lately, it's recovering but not yet recovered, says William Wheaton, a housing economist at MIT.
"There's a lot of discussion right now about how sales should be more robust and they're not, given where we are in this stage of the economic recovery," he says. Americans are buying the same number of homes they were 18 years ago. And Wheaton says the population has grown since, so sales should be stronger.

Interesting fireworks photo.

Housing sales will recover when either the prices come down or median incomes go up. People will move when they can afford to move.

Raising minimum wages won't do it:

Amen

minimum wage shouldn't change the median income...unless more than half the people make min wage. Minimum wage is a political hot button, but in reality very few people make the actual minimum. Texas is set to the federal minimum of 7.25 but most box stores pay 9 to 11/hr.

We might be in store for.one.of those blowy things. Not named yet.

Been a long time since a CAT 3 made landfall.

Must be that evil climate change.

NOAA is calling it Tropical Depression Four. Evacuating Florida is a nightmare. I was living in Houston when Katrina came thru and it took us 19 hours to drive to San Antonio (normally 3 hours).

How do you evac in a Tesla?

Rob Dawg said...

Wait for lightning? :rimshot:

Actually the first 250 miles gets you some superchargers.

Florida

Fort Myers, FL I-75 exit 128
Gulf Coast Town Center
Port Orange, FL I-95 exit 256
The Pavilion at Port Orange
Port St. Lucie, FL I-95 exit 121
Town Center at St. Lucie West
St. Augustine, FL I-95 exit 318
St. Augustine Premium Outlets

so a little planning before the power goes out might work.

Good read on the craziness going on up here in home prices. 90% of sales this Spring ended up in bidding wars (according to Redfin)....median sales price just crossed $700K..

surprised on the map that NC is now in the blue...prices were moving up pretty steadily last time I looked (about a year ago)..Might have to move Raleigh/Charlotte back into consideration for potential retirement locales..

Unknown said...

oh..now I see they are measuring since 2000..so hard to discern recent trends from that..

Rob Dawg said...

You can toggle to look at "since the peak."

Rob, range is 250 miles, but what is the idle efficiency while the AC is running in 100 degree heat? Evacuations from Miami can take 30+ hours. Lots of cars run out of gas with much more stored energy in the gas tank than a Tesla can hold in its battery. How do you refill a dead tesla on the side of the road in that kind of gridlock?

Evacuation KEY WEST is not possible. We evacuated for south Dade took 7 hours, which we could deal with. Florda IS BIG. North Fla was not adefected br Andres, which was like a 3o mile tornado. Depends on how big the storm is, where it is going and where you want to go.

I can see it now. A TESLA with a Home Depot generator with a five gallon gas can bungee corded to the roof. Extended miles by maybe 10. :)

pretty sure Elon will send his personal aircraft to rescue any Tesla owners struggling to evacuate FLA.. ;<)

speaking of FLA..."FLA man" strikes again..

A 23-year-old Florida man was charged Friday in an incident that court documents say featured wine bottles being smashed over heads, and forced a China-bound flight to return to Sea-Tac Airport on Thursday night.

I've never known a Tesla owner to own -just- a Tesla. In fact one owns a GMC Denali. Another Ford F-350. They aren't going to take the Tesla.

Unknown said...

yeah..they'll probably be towing the Tesla with their Denali

Okay... Granite steps are in... Starting the retaining wall tomorrow. It won't be done before I return to work, but hopefully the foundation will be in

Well done Cinco. Hard work like that is very satisfying to me not to mention I don't have to listen to how hard it is to get the sun, moon and the stars in alignment from some clueless kid.

How about a granite exterior, where I've always thought they belong. Well maybe not in Kali with earth quakes but Florida where strength might keep your house up.

So the movie/concert was great. The live sync was perfect and amazing Williams score. Far richer than just the movie track.

Time to build more trellises. Cannot believe the asking prices at the home improvement stores. They want $18 for a trellis and $13 for a two foot tomato plant and $6 for a medium cage. Expensive hobby for some.

Anyone got anything to say about Maria Isabel Garduno-Martinez? Sad but...?

Clearly a preventable tragedy. No doubt her immigration status prevented her from seeking out the professional help she needed. It's our fault.
