Hail Mary Play

California will offer Powerball lottery next year

Gambling is illegal and immoral.  Try to do it and you get arrested.

Increased taxation for the innumerate.

Where is their sympathy!?!?

Lotteries will become ever more popular as the proletariat loses ground to the bourgeoisie.

sm_landlord, remember that idea I pitched you? ;-)

SM_Landlord, you can find sympathy in the dictionary. It's halfway between Shit and Syphilis.

So TJ, are you ready to become an analyst of such things?

Tom, maybe so, but it comes before taxes ;-)

Evening Rob,

Did you catch that piece in the Times about CAB bonds for school districts in CA?

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-school-bond-20121129,0,4035729,full.story

The line I liked the best was...

"It was well worth it," said Jennifer Zaheer, president of the Palomar Council Parent Teachers Assn., which serves Poway Unified. "In my son's experience, there's a big difference between using a trailer and having a new classroom."

I see that high school graduation rates are higher in Tennessee and Texas than they are in California and Massachusetts and Connecticut. Maybe California and Massachusetts and Connecticut should spend more money.

It's not all bad. California's graduation rate is one percentage point higher than Mississippi's.

California supposedly spends the median on education but they cheat. The per pupil expenditure does not include certain categories of debt that are classified as general obligations. CA probably has the worst expense to outcome ratio in the nation.

And don't forget CalSTRS. We pour billions into that but is it counted as education spending?

I just posted this information to CR and they are denial.

Hi HomeGnome! I know that you just ran over here. Remember, I told you two weeks ago. I am not Rob. Rob is a dude in California. I am in Texas. I never heard of him until the Serin saga.

Got it?

Rob, I think it's more about states like CT and MA. They have enormous per pupil budgets.

I got a chance to look at the LATimes article. OMG, Santa Monica Community College has $200m in debt of these toxic products.

Thanks for the link.

FWIW, you actually have to pass a test, the MCAS before graduation. Without comprehensive assessment, just about anyone in TX, TN or CA can graduate from HS. We thank our former Governor Bill Weld for that improvement to our education system...
