Jordan Levine, an economist with Beacon, said that for the city, the
benefits from the increased taxes would outweigh any harm experienced by
Los Angeles' economy. But his firm also suggested the increase — which
would push the city's sales tax rate up to 9.5% — could
create a "border city problem," with consumers turning to adjacent
communities with major shopping destinations and lower tax rates.

Nine and one half percent.

LA? California's nuts.
Both Illinois & California have handed the Dems super-majorities. Must be a reward for doing such a wonderful job.
Gotta wonder what will blow up first -- IL, CA or the USA itself.
The superMajority will be interesting. I'm looking at the likely consequences right now. Ugly doesn't even begin. So if you are moderately rich self employed you can look forward to 56% in taxes and the remaining 44 cents gets nicked for 9.5% sales tax.
p.s.: The prior statement should not be interpreted as pro-Rep, just pro checks & balances, of which now there are none.
Moderately rich self-employed? I know a couple of guys in VC that resemble that remark. ;-)
I know, I agree. We're we a single party conservative state we'd just have a different set of intractable problems. The Rs in the legislature should spend the next two years voting present.
The HCN turds are still thinking I'm coming back. They don't know what to do with themselves.

Looking for more deductions now... The more you spend, the more you save!
Or something.
Sorry for the lack of updates. Realworld intruded.
Now that the HCN sickos and those that tolerate them realize they have driven off the majority of the topical contributors they have started turning on each other. It isn't worth even watching at this point.
Anyway, back to regular posting.
True dat...HG, Yogi, et al have really killed the blog
HG needed to dumb down the blog so he wouldn't be irrelevant. He won't let go either.
Yogi has more chips on his shoulder than a Keebler elf.
KP is sloppy, opinionated and intolerant.
Others just don't like having truths held up to scrutiny.
Kinda sad. Used to be one of the best places.
Brilliant characterization of Yogi.
KP's the one that absolutely drives me nuts; he's a legend in his own mind. He never posts at night, which I'm certain is due to his asylum having a curfew on internet privileges.
I don't post much there anymore, although I fear missing mp's best last days. :-(
