Shopping Interlude

Shopping has been a breeze.  Plenty of stock, short lines.  Probably because prices aren't that great and the "recovery" is overhyped.  So, what have I bought?  A few DVDs for $1.88.  A few more for $2.25.  Big items?  Only two; an HP Laserjet 400 for $349 and a Samsung WB150F camera for $89.  No LED lights, no doorbusters.  I did go to Fry's for their Black Thursday deals with rebates.  $19 for a 600w power supply for the upcoming supermegahackintosh build, 8Gb RAM for the hacklaptop an nVidia 1Gb video card.  Little stuff.  Yesterday I also got a 1Tb laptop HD for $59.

The stores are empty of customers.  I don't know if it is local but it is palpable.

Meatspace obligations. Dropped off donations to the Rescue Mission. Took the little one to school and picked up the Animal Shelter donation box (towels and blankets for the puppies and kittens). Back in my garden shed and working finally.

My gods that Home Gnome is one broken individual. He just cannot stand it that he ruined HCN and has no one left to blame. He was making fun of EN again he's so desperate.

So this camera is pretty cool. 21x optical zoom and full wi-fi capability.

It's been pretty dead here. After dropping the 'rents off at home on Thanksgiving Day,I swung through the Best Buy lot on the way to my place.

Around 2130 there were maybe a dozen people in line. Maybe.

I'm going to break down and purchase a small laptop for fuel injection. I was going to reuse my Mom's old one but after seeing how shitty the 8 year old screen is...
I'll just splurge on a new one.

Even the neighbor said it was dead as hell in Aruba last month. He has been going to the same place for 20 years so he has seen ups and downs.

Too busy to shop. I did find time for a dental appointment. Better that than deal with shopping.

This can actually be a good time of year to take care of neglected meatspace duties - but for me, I'm running over 100 emails per day, trying to coordinate some projects that should long since have been wrapped up... everything takes longer and costs more than estimated, just like every other year...

(corrected to fix a typo, bummer no edit caps)

I am looking at both edit ability and hot linking. Hey, it's a new blog. ;-)

Anyway I'm real slow. Need a flunky?

I could use a tire bitch.

:)

BTW,I forgot to mention my younger brother just had one aneurysm coiled and is scheduled to have a second one done. They were going to do both but the first one took almost seven hours. 41 years old...

He had it done at Kettering. I'm positive you know where that's at.

BTW,pickup only on the laptop. The sad part is the damn thing has more power than my 5 year old desktop!

Prayers to you and yours. It is not undue credit that your brother owes me and my family his life. Near 70 years of volunteering for some truly tortuous testing starting with my grandparents in the Framingham Heart Study. The echolocation and other diagnostics come directly from that study. My sister even flies back from Australia every few years (at her expense) to participate.

Too bad about the laptop. I'm still mad at Toshiba anyway. Selling the Soviet Union that milling machinery remains an unforgivable sin. On that note I am preparing for a hackintosh build to replace the aging Dual G5 in the shed. I hope you and everyone else isn't bored silly with the progress. Hey, better than the bathroom that isn't finishing itself.

Cobradriver, I wish your brother good luck. It's rough for the family.

To play a bit of Devil's Advocate, do you guys think videos of the zombie avalanche last Black Friday and the destruction last December at the Nike shoe release scared some people away from BF shopping and turned them into online cyber bargain hunters?
