Disposable Personal Income

by now many of you have read on real blogs that DPI jumped an inflationary 0.4% last month.  What you may not have heard is that 55% of that was increases in dividend and interest income.  The rich continue to take in the gains.

What went up 1.4? I like my dividends, but haven't noticed them going up.

I got a CD today finally up to 2.75% 5 years. Only 2.25% more to go. Is it up when it's down?

Lawyerliz said...

Yes
If you hold it to the end you get your divvy. If you try to sell halfway through, and rates have gone, up you won't get the whole thing.

Lawyerliz said...

If the interest rate goes down tejoice, you get more back.

IRA you can cash in with out penalty anytime after the age of 59 1/2. We are not done paying for the lending theft for a while. They are just trying to cover their buts. Think of the self funded retired relying on a reasonable savings income to balance things out.

Best rate I've seen for liquid (no term), FDIC insured money is 1.10% from Synchrony Bank (spinoff from GE)..

but what I really stopped in to mention is I discovered a great beer for less then $5 per six pack.. "Simpler Times"..brewed in Wisconsin (yea!!)..very tasty. Bought it at the local Trader Joes...worth checking out!!

Rob Dawg said...

For just a bit more try the Boatswain Double IPA.

Unknown said...

but is it brewed in Wisconsin?? hahaha

saw that one too and almost bought..will definitely check it out next time on your rek..

Nothing like Blatz for the bladder. I think it used to %4.99 for a suitcase back in the day. LOL!

I'll have another H2o on the rocks please. ;)

worked at a warehouse-style grocery store back in high school...remember them having several different brands for $5 (or so) per case (Rhinelander is the one name I remember)...

People would return the (somewhat empty) case full of bottles for their deposit..so you'd get splashed with it stacking it up in back...good times!!

Ok. So Liz wanted to still have an "Unknown" and "what baby wants baby gets."

I considered "Formerly Unknown" but that has an unfortunate acronym....so "Great Unknown" it is.

Cinco trust me - it's me.

fyi..Wisconsin was settled primarily by German immigrants..which is why so much great beer came from there (originally..the corporate take-overs ruined things eventually)

Got the first ripe tomato today. Finally.

The yellow bell peppers have yet to turn yellow though.

Got stung by a paper wasp yesterday. A friend tells me that a good home remedy for those stings is to cut an onion in half and put the cut side again the sting. That would have been good info yesterday - so just passing it along in case someone stumbles upon a nest.

what's the typical gestation time for tomatoes (planting to ripened fruit)?? the gf claims it's too late to plant tomatoes this year..I think she's just being lazy.. ;<)

Anonymous said...

My tomatoes are the Celebrity type. They usually ripen much earlier, but I moved their location due to tomato horn worms and stink bug attacks. Unfortunately, the plants get less sunlight now and I'm guessing that slowed down the ripening.

Unknown said...

the green onions grow about an inch a day though...amazingly hearty plants

Well...i planted my plants on 21 April and they started ripening a week ago. Finally got ripe enough to pick today. So that's about nine weeks? But as mentioned above it was probably two weeks later than normal. I live in piedmont area of NC.

A friend gave me some "Delicious" variety tomato plants. This is the first time I've tried a late planting. I planted them two weeks ago here in NC. I'm told they can continue to bear as late as December and my friend plants a late tomato crop all the time so he knows what he is doing.

One word of caution. Shade the plants for the first few days after planting this time of year. Otherwise they'll wilt and die. I used an inverted empty plant pot.

Unknown said...

yeah..I think we've given up on the tomatoes this year..we have some green onions..some herbs..and a pretty cool aloe plant...about all you can do from the back patio of a condo I guess.

Anonymous said...

Oops. Just to be clear, I wouldn't try to start from seed this late in the season. Find a local nursery and get some plants.

Unknown said...

so tomatoes like sun?? shade?? combo??

I noticed my recent store (Costco) bought Romas are grown in greenhouses in Canada ...

Rob Dawg said...

I have the worst luck from seeds. A sux pack is only $2-3 and seeds these days are expensive.

Anonymous said...

I only plant summer squash and cucumbers from seed. Everything else I get from a local nursery. I stay away from box store plants - ridiculously expensive.

Tomatoes like full sun

Unknown said...

interesting..we get great sun on our back patio during the summer..maybe it's not too late

Rob Dawg said...

We have a Do-It-Best with six pack varieties of lettuce, squash, tomatoes, chillis and peppers. Whole garden less than $20.

Santa Monica jumps the tax shark tonight: As of tomorrow the sales tax rate goes to 10.25%.

I completely stopped buying taxable items in the Great Sewer at the end of last year, and the rate has been rising 0.5% every quarter so far this year.

My prediction is that the Camarillo Outlet Mall is about to get a surge in business. Bummer that this will more traffic on PCH.

Rob Dawg said...

Not just CA. Clark County NV is 8.25%. Creeping socialism.

Anonymous said...

I used to travel to Camarillo area alot (going to Pt. Mugu). I love the smell of celery in the morning. They also used to have a lot of Roma tomato fields as well.

Anonymous said...

Amazing how development has taken over the farms there over past 25 years - even with very tough restrictions to keep it from happening.

Rob Dawg said...

People blame Oxnard but both Ventura and particularly Camarillo have been the real bad actors.

Rob Dawg said...

All the tomatos are under glass these days. Amazing factories. They have acres of solar panels. They pump in CO2. Plants 15 feet tall.

Lawyerliz said...

Mike you are back, yay!

And Unknown is Great Unknown. I guess. Yay

Lawyerliz said...

Why is the tax rate so high? About to go bk?

Rob Dawg said...

Tax rates are just plain old out of control. Remember this 10% are after that money has already been taxed Federal and State. Earn $100. Fed 22%. State 11%. $67 tries to buy $60 and costs $67.

Lawyerliz said...

Ours is 6% and no income tax, and low ish property taxes, if it's homestead.
The property insurance is very high,.bUT they did pay out for Hurricane Andrew.

Lawyerliz said...

Now Florida is the land of no sidewalks, but really! ! !

Lawyerliz said...

Haven't you guys ever heard of the grey mkt and the one that's somewhat darker?

Lawyerliz said...

I donr do that myself, but at some point you have to fight back.

Lawyerliz said...

Oh, and your gas prices are really high.

Rob Dawg said...

Gas prices are high but it is the taxes that make the huge difference.

Lawyerliz said...

There you go.
What is this bein spent on?

Cinco-X said...

Sox are currently spanking the Bluejays. Sale is quite a pitcher.

Cinco-X said...

Illegal immigrants

Lawyerliz said...

I know, a huge immigration tax for anyone who wants to live there! And double the property taxes on Mc Mansions.

Rob Dawg said...

Transit subsidies and eco mitigation.

California aggressively pursues people who leave the state. They are incredibly abusive. Their position is essentially, they know you've left the state and they know they are wrong but unless you pay they will never never stop.

Lawyerliz said...

How do they know where you went?
New York does something like that, as I recall even after you are dead.

Unknown said...

Sale is quite a pitcher

he sure is..and nobody "manufactures" runs like the BoSox...they consistently put up 6+ runs per game with minimal HR production. Breath of fresh air in the "HR or bust" era that the MLB seems to have become...

Unknown said...

California aggressively pursues people who leave the state.

yeah..I felt their "sting" when I left. I do think that anybody who is receiving a state pension from them and living in another state..should have to pay state income taxes on that income though.

Rob Dawg said...

Liz, they notice when you don't file a State income tax return.

And I have long advocated for a steep progressive taxation of State and municipal retirement income.

Unknown said...

Mike you are back, yay!

yeah..sometimes I need to step aside for a bit when the political stuff starts getting overheated..

but love you guys..and thankful to our host for this forum

Lawyerliz said...

Today it was mostly tomatoes.

Unknown said...

fabulous..home grown tomatoes is something we all can agree on..

hey maybe we can build a new political party around that!!

Rob Dawg said...

Thanks Mike. Back at the Dawghaus late Sunday so more regular postings Monday.

Anybody want vacation pictures?

Unknown said...

Anybody want vacation pictures?

You know, HCN had not had anybody new come on board for years, and you got a couple an the last couple of weeks. I'd still like Jo and Outsider. Then it would be perfect.

MJ goes legal in LV this weekend..good for a .50% bump to the national GDP this quarter??

Unknown said...

Alright..on Rob's recommendation..cracking into a 6P of Boatswain Double I.P.A. (from Trader Joe's)..so anything dumb I say from now on is his fault....the dumb stuff from earlier is all on me.

Rob Dawg said...

Church is out of the way. Now shopping for the baby bird who flys the nest next month. Just passed a Walgreens. They had a green plus sign in front. Yup. Medical MJ.

Rob Dawg said...

Did I mention the IPA is 8.4%? Mike is probably passed out. Should have recommended the H.L.V. for beginners.

Rob Dawg said...

My uncle James of the Fair/Conklin/Conklin clan side used to advise that the cure for the hangover was to never sober up.

Lawyerliz said...

Bad bad Dawg and Mike.

Rob Dawg said...

Mike has an excuse. I'm at the Ethyl M chocolate factory having samples. Having started drinking yet.

Rob Dawg said...

Okay. Alaskan Amber pints. Now I have an excuse.

Rob Dawg said...

Now I have a sadz. I used to look good in a Speedo. Board shorts for me these days.

Lawyerliz said...

Drinking chocolate booze will not make it better.

Lawyerliz said...

MJ. What does that do to walgreen's accounting?

Rob Dawg said...

I was wondering the same thing. Do they accept credit cards? Give loyalty discounts? Insurance? Copays?

Lawyerliz said...

It's all cash.

Rob Dawg said...

Okay. New post and hitting the road soon.
