Congratulations

Our good blogging budy Jean Valjean writes in the comments:

Yesterday, I recited this oath:

“I hereby declare, on oath,
that I absolutely and entirely
renounce and abjure
all allegiance and fidelity
to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty
of whom or which I have heretofore
been a subject or citizen;
that I will support and defend
the Constitution and laws of the United States of America
against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States
when required by the law;
that I will perform noncombatant service
in the Armed Forces of the United States
when required by the law;
that I will perform work of national importance
under civilian direction
when required by the law;
and that I take this obligation freely
without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion;
so help me God.”

The next words I heard: “Congratulations and welcome - You are now a Citizen of the United States of America

Congratulations.

First of all, I want to thank you for the nice post.

Also, thanks to all the followers and contributors in this blog, who have shared their wisdom, opinions, and snark.

I've learned much from you. I hope to continue learning and in time pay some back.

Traitor to the crown! Off with his head!

NR (idly humming Oh Canada)

You'd think I could at least correctly spell "O Canada"? But no.

Very cool Jean.

I assume you were Canadian. Why did you want to become American? Was it to take a more visceral joy in watching our war movies?

Jean ValJean said...

Not Canadian, actually.

Mexican.

Canadian/Mexican what's the difference? [ducks]

Making reservations for Montreal tomorrow for 14-16 June. Suggestions welcome.

You're right, Dawg: Neither one of us knows how to spell "Oh Canada".

Don't look at me, that was Northern Renter. In other words; "Blame Canada!"

Jean,

You do realize that reciting this passage now obligates you to show up for Rob's militia meeting? Since you're new you'll have to bring the beer AND the practice ammo.

Since you're new you'll have to bring the beer AND the practice ammo.Wow, you can find ammo?

(Welcome, Monsieur le Mayor)

Yes, Jean needs to bring the beer but being the "new guy" he also gets to use the thermite to light the BBQ pit.

Oooh...
Explosives! Sweet!

Rob Dawg said...

I always suspected you were one of "us."

I'm not going to have to wear funny underwear, am I?

Rob Dawg said...

That depends. Funny "ha ha" or funny "strange?"

Jean ValJean said...

Just nothing with "glow-in-the-dark" symbols.
