Not Enough American Engineers?

Mexican engineers flood Tesla hiring event in Monterrey

Reuters - The Silicon Valley automaker is recruiting in the United States' neighbor for work on robotics and other automated equipment at its Fremont, California factory, where it aims to build 500,000 cars a year by 2018, a six-fold increase from 2016. The factory will build Tesla's upcoming Model 3.

Mexico boasts a substantial pool of experienced manufacturing engineers, with 19 automotive plants owned by global automakers including General Motors Co (GM.N), Ford Motor Co (F.N), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCHA.MI) and Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE).

A steady tide of hopefuls showed up at the event unannounced and without an appointment, some having traveled hundreds of kilometers, mistakenly thinking it was an open recruiting fair. Several dozen were turned away.

Yup... Or at least that is what management would have is believe... Hard to believe that we won WWII, the close war, and sent me to the Moon with American engineers, and now they're aren't enough...

Cinco-X said...

Ack... Cold War... DYAC

Rob Dawg said...

Engineers are "cost centers" not "future revenue sources."

Rob Dawg said...

It was a close thing. Jimmy Carter almost lost it.

Our German engineers were smarter than their German engineers. Von Braun, anyone?

Has anyone besides me ever met Werner Von Braun? BTW, if you thought Trump was a crappy candidate, look who the Dims are grooming...

Lawyerliz said...

Well the rain stopped ND it's just as hot as it was before.

Dawg, Trump's does not get credit for the first quarter--he hadn't done anything much, which is true even for the second. And you really think those bank regulations should be overturned?? You think you can trust banks? BANKS?????

Lawyerliz said...

If we are lucky nothing much will continue to happen.

Rob Dawg said...

Liz. The proposed and likely Republican bank "reforms" are dangerous and evil. Do I need to make my position clearer?

Rob Dawg said...

> Our German engineers were smarter than their German engineers. Von Braun, anyone?

That's a line from "Ice Station Zebra."

Rob Dawg said...

Liz. You may not know this but I lived in Florida in 1960. The sedge land was -supposed- to burn every or every other year. If it took three years it was bad. Four years and was very bad.

Cinco-X said...

Ya...I was probably 8 or 9 years old. Meet him when I had to go to a teacher's education thing with my parents when they couldn't get a babysitter for my sister and me. It was pretty awesome, since we were in the middle of the race to the Moon at that point...

Cinco-X said...

Yup... Controlled burns are an essential management tool in FL...

Jerry Springer LOL.
I notice that the wikipedia article on him doesn't mention the whorehouse incident.

EngineerJim said...

opps, I stand corrected.
Jerry Springer's whorehouse incident is mentioned in the wikipedia article: in the "Political Career" section.

LBD said...

Jerry Springer, now where moving on up! LMAO what Americans will vote for.

Lawyerliz said...

Nope.

What as, court jester, national clown?

Rob Dawg said...

> Are you a.parliamentary system?

No. Federalist with stronger circumventions. Prefectures have "duties" and "obligations" where the Federal system can only intervene in mutually agreed upon situations. That's a mixed bag.

Zillow say my McMansion is up $2,100 last 30 days! I think I'm going to use their estimate for my wealth sheet! I'm Richer then I thought! LMAO!

Lawyerliz said...

In another month you will be even richer!

But iTs imaginary money.

Rob Dawg said...

$2100? That's three days not 30.

And Ford is up just enough to let me sleep well. Time to look at GE?

Liz tell your dear spouse that CO2 is a magic molecule that acts as a thermostat throughout the universe.

Rob Dawg said...

Michael Kors Will close 100+ stores. The retail carnage is gaining momentum. The real sufferers are going to be those silly pretzel and lemonade stores in the malls.

LBD said...

Good Morning!

30 days here in the outback. Things move slower here. :)

Lawyerliz said...

Nah, they launder money.

Lawyerliz said...

Good Morning.😀 I wish the contractor would start work. The turtle damage in the back is fenced off, bit still dangerous. The bathrooms upstairs are 40 years old and were ugly when new.

Lawyerliz said...

I wonder if Zillow will notice when it's done.

Lawyerliz said...

Looks like I should buy the dip when Home Depot hits 120 or so.

Rob Dawg said...

Hope the assessor doesn't notice.

Rob Dawg said...

Pretty sure you will see $135 so $120 is possible on overshoot.

Lawyerliz said...

Motley Fool sez Ford is a cheap stock in a high flying market. Your thing.

Lawyerliz said...

Not sure it IS overshoot. Sure I mostly visit one store, but the lot is always full,.people are buying, not merely shopping, including us. EVERY time he buys a widget, I get more marigolds. The people are always plentiful and helpful. Every time we visit there. Like 3 times a week. At least.

Lawyerliz said...

3% only. Homestead.

COFEFE to everyone.

Rob Dawg said...

Don't worry, the nation is in good covfefe.

UMDan said...

Went to the Menard's in Waukesha (West of Milwaukee) this past weekend. Huge store, two stories with a long sloped moving walkway (like in airports) to go between floors with your cart. Place was packed. I know I contributed to Home Depot's bottom line with all the tile I bought there, and the toilet and sink at Menard's to finish off the master bath. Keep up Zillow, I need to be a little less underwater when I sell.

Lawyerliz said...

Do I mean covfefe?

Lawyerliz said...

We had to dodge a turtle crossing the road. Why? To get to the other side.

Cinco-X said...

Why did you need to get to the other side?

LBD said...

In Oklahoma it's why did the Armadillo cross the road?

Lawyerliz said...

I flew over flyover!!!

Rob Dawg said...

> "Why did you need to get to the other side?"

The NH State liquor store had Beefeater's on sale?

Rob Dawg said...

> "In Oklahoma it's why did the Armadillo cross the road? "

Lost the mascot job to "Pistol Pete?"

Lawyerliz said...

I hope the turtle didn't get squashed.

Rob Dawg said...

BTW. No new topic until someone, anyone at least mentions the engineer joke in the top post.

Lawyerliz said...

Trump do anything weird today?

Lawyerliz said...

Why is it an engineer joke? Wouldn't any profession do?

LBD said...

Anybody remember in WLA a bar named Pistol Dawn?

I don't get what's so funny about a guy who drove a train? :)

Lawyerliz said...

Hahaha. Flying over more of b flyover

Lawyerliz said...

The covfefe posts are hillarious.

Lawyerliz said...

There is now Mexican made Trump toilet paper.

Lawyerliz said...

I am here and feeling like I'm still moving up and down.
