A world where value has no meaning

https://ventura.craigslist.org/tls/6038098077.html

Nice.  I've always entertained having an anvil.  My dad had a real one.  I have 10lb for tight work.  No, a -real- anvil.

The problem?  $1300 for this 200lb example.  Worse?  The stand is not included.  Is it an artisan anvil and I am not appreciating the beauty?  Apparently.  The text mentions Manufactured by Kohlswa Gjuteri AB, Kohlsva, Sweden for more than 70 years. The material in Kohlswa anvils is a special alloy steel, developed specifically for anvils.

...and they left that special alloy out in rain to rust?

I had an Andy Rooney moment on the way back to Echo Beach today.

I drove by a couple of liquor stores, and they were all named "EBT Liquor".

Have you ever wondered why so many liquor stores would have the same name? Maybe it's a new chain? Or maybe liquor store owners aren't very creative?

Nate Silver wrote a nine-part article on why Hillary lost, and no one expected it ?

I would think one paragraph would be sufficient.

>"EBT Liquor"

You wouldn't think they would be so obvious.

People who voted for Trump got tired of being told their opinions were worth a fraction of the opinions of their betters. They turned to the ballot box where they weren't able to be shouted down. HCN didn't and Mudfilledecon doesn't get it.

Maybe. But Trump is still cazy, and his knowledge of ethics would not fill a thimble, not to speak of his minions. Harry Truman promoted Margaret's singing career to my mom and grandmother's disgust. The Dems need to grow some good new leaders. I liked at first, how he didn't pussyfoot. And he recognized a Chinese trade war. Right now , neither he nor the Repubs know how to govern. Will they learn? I dunno. I would bet very little will get done.

Why do you want an anvil? Why do you want a rusty anvil? It must be a guy thing. Is this a type of toolporn? A fetish?

The 10 year T bill index looks very jagged when taken out to 3 months.

Good morning all.

Yeah there's a bit of Tin The Toolman Taylor going on but a modest anvil is useful. Banging out a fence pole that got bent in the garden. Make an angle strap for a wobbly picnic table leg. Flatten a tin can to repair a spot on the rain gutter. This one however appears special enough to be worth a fortune. Thus the allusion to the difference between cost of everything price of nothing.

The volatility index is unnaturally calm. Maybe paranoia but everything seems preparing to go wild at once.

Is it supposed to be reddish?

Rob Dawg said...

Yes. Reddish like that is good. A fine bit of surface rust on good steel as opposed to flaky bloom rust in a cheap cast iron anvil.

Good Morning!

Anvil may have historic value to a few but art is a real stretch. Great tool wouldn't mind having one but being in a railroad town I found a couple short of pieces of rail that do very well for forming metal.

Any opinion on GM selling Opel to PSA group? Opens the door to Korea and China to take a bigger piece of the car Biz the taxpayer saved. Holden also quit manufacturing as well.

The story of Holden in Australia is a cautionary tale for the US and how tax and social policies have consequences.

Unions played a part in cost and the government intervention feed the problem. UAW should take note that the old extortion game has a new ending. I think the Opel/Vauxhall sale was short sighted. Opel has a big part in Buick design and clones. China just broke in to importing the new Buick mini SUV, so they probably fill the void Opel leaves.
