Okay. Insane Cali properties are not good subject material.

$365k sounds like a reasonable price for a home in Socal... The place is ugly as sin, OTOH, $1,200k for a two bedroom, one bath ranch with a carport in San Jose sounds pretty ugly too...

Observers in the West and the developing world question whether the solutions China is offering are genuine public goods; many suspect that China’s “one belt, one road” initiative, for example, is a self-serving, unilaterally imposed scheme. That uncertainty underscores a central point: while the liberal world order could be in trouble, a Chinese-led alternative is not yet discernible.

Technological progress is a systemic threat to democracy, rule of law, and open markets — but only because we lack ambition.

Donald Trump’s populist victory has turned conventional political wisdom on its head. Going into the election, the media and the electorate largely believed Hillary Clinton would crush Trump and become the first woman president. But as the night of November 8 wore on, it became clear that Trump would edge Hillary out.

Have other houses in the neighborhood sold for antything close to this?

Lawyerliz said...

I thing anybody who loses their meals on wheels or life saving medical care will never vote republican again.

Rob Dawg said...

Liz, neighborhood is a bit of a stretch. High Desert plats of 2.5 acres in a grid.

I am glad the Great Stirrer of the Pot is challenging even noble causes to reafirm and justify. Sets the standards for the lesser causes.

Rob Dawg said...

Keep in mind this is East Bumf*k SoCal. There are reasons why in a region where 1/10acre lots go for millions a few dozen miles away this is a tertiary property.

Cinco-X said...

If they lose life saving care then it's a sure bet that they won't.

they forgot to mention the "low maintenance landscaping" in that listing also.. ;<)

In only a few million years the front yard will be "trabertine" as well.

Unknown said...

night skies are probably amazing out that direction. Be fun to put a big arse telescope on the roof, score some ganja, crank up the ELO and party until dawn..

Rob Dawg said...

Unfortunately out there they worship to sodium sun. Heck you can see the aviation hazard lights on the Tehachapi windmills 50 miles away.

Unknown said...

one thing is for sure out there..if there is an unexpected knock on the door...

Don't answer it!! lol

LBD said...

Still boring high desert. Bakersfield with out water. Is Trabertine tile some kind of porcelain? ;)

Unknown said...

I'd invest in a couple of Dobermans patrolling the perimeter if I lived out there.

Unknown said...

Bakersfield with out water.

if Baker would have kept going one more day..he could have settled in Malibu..

The West Bakersfield oil deposits define the easternmost reaches of Dawgifornia. We needed a gateway to the Central Valley.

Here's an update video on the Oroville dam/spillway from today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c16dr9qzlZY

Pretty good overview of the whole situation.

Also he includes some video on what happens when the turbines in a power plant get blocked. Apparently this happened at a Russian power plant a few years ago. Not pretty -- 75 people were killed in that accident. I guess nuclear power isn't the only dangerous power source.

Cinco-X said...

I think it's a soft Stone, but they're making fun of a typo. I think it's travertine

LBD said...

Good Morning!

Back to my projects today.

Cinco I was making fun of it also. My spelling is horrible. :)

My grandfather worked in the oil fields in Taft. I also lived in the central valley in the 60's and remember it being desert all along 395. Things have changed a lot since.

LBD said...

The video reporting on the spillway has been very informative and looks to be going well. Thanks EJ.

The fear of Nukes always seems to leave out the deaths in other forms of energy production. I am for investigating mini nukes that can be buried. Lot's of advantages I believe and safe.

Lawyerliz said...

Looks like they are way over the 100million $ mark already. Infrastructure and it wasn't even shovel ready. Do Cali people think infrastructure is useless because the Big one will come along and destroy it all?

Lawyerliz said...

A new company name Vector is planning to launch small satellites inn teeny rockets at Cape Canaveral hoping to get up to 109 flights a year. Rocket only 42 Fett tall.

Virgin Galactic is alsoplanning launches, as well as a company aiming at the moon. These launches ma not be worth walking to the front are for. They will be much cheaper for small stuff.

Lawyerliz said...

The State of Florida Senate passed a bill to hire private contractor python hunters.

Just thought you all would like to know.

Lawyerliz said...

These launches will need at least reasonably well paid employees who will need houses to live in. And who will buy stuff.

Rob Dawg said...

I'm glad the area is diversifying away from just NASA. I also am glad they reverted to Cape Canaveral. Kennedy Space Center is enough.

Anyone keeping up with thorium reactor tech?

LBD said...

We should have a station on the moon by now. Showing us 6th grade experiments from the space station seems useless after all this time. Space exploration is great for advancement and does provide good paying jobs for the economy. IMO

Rob Dawg said...

At only 42 feet why don't they air launch from a carrier plane. 35,000 extra feet and closer to the equator and the first 450mph all add up to a much higher orbit and/or payload size.

LBD said...

I have wondered why as well and even wonder the feasibility of a mini unmanned winged plane type vehicle like the shuttle. Easy landing and reusable.

Lawyerliz said...

I Zilowed that house. A lot of nearby houses range from the 150s to the 250s with a few in the 350s. Wat are the hypothetical horses supposed to eat and drink? We actually do have horses in my neighborhood and they eat everything green and not green as well as horse food. They also have shade. There seem to bequite a few vacant lots. Is there any employment there?

Cinco-X said...

Nah... It's still desert

Lawyerliz said...

There are designed for small payloads. Apparently there are lots of customers for 150 pounds. I guess it is cheapest. Don't know, really. The is a mini one planned for the moon. Not manned, I presume.

Also some stuff to be launched from New Zealand.

Cinco-X said...

When I was a kid teenagers would hunt rattle snakes for the reptile center down in Central Florida. They'd use the venom for making anti-venom. Risky part-time work, but teenagers are stupid...

Lawyerliz said...

Space is far from dead.

Cinco-X said...

I think the Chinese are making strides. Too bad we ditched it way back because it wasn't useful for making weapons

Cinco-X said...

Yup... Put some old B52s to good use

Lawyerliz said...

Pythons are infinitely harder to catch. We had a sanctioned python hunters a couple of years ago. Few got caught. Alas it was hilarious.

Cinco-X said...

That's sorta what the X15 was... Of course, that's 50s and 60s technology

Cinco-X said...

I think building houses is the primary source for local employment

Lawyerliz said...

The rockets are allegedly reusable up to 6 times.

Lawyerliz said...

You leave out the pain and expense of negotiating with the govt. Also all of the safety stuff is already in place, plus the weather info. I think this is cheaper

LBD said...

B-52's are so old and they still work! I still work ,sort of. :)

Cinco-X said...

If guess the air frame is in excess of 60 years old, and the still fly fine. Probably outdated for 21st century at warfare, but fine for launching 42' missiles into low Earth orbit

Lawyerliz said...

You guys are not aware of all the other stuff that has to happen. others have tried launching omitting stuff that seemed extraneous and disaster often happened, far more expensive than the time and money they would have saved. These people hope to earn profits. If they thought dropping rockets from airplanes would work they would have done it.

If it might be useful, and it might, the government should experiment with it.

Lawyerliz said...

65° here. Breeder.

Lawyerliz said...

Brrrrrrrrrrr.

Lawyerliz said...

How do you all feel about Fannie and Freddie and the 10b$ profits they have?

They repaid all they got from the taxpayers, plus lots more. Parenthetically, this means the free market was wrong about not saving them and the govt was right.

It seems a done deal that this 10 bill is going to the govt, it I think when they should be suitably recaptialized, thought should've given as to whether the shareholders should be given anything. I think I favor a 3 way split between taxpayers, capitalizing generously and shareholders. People in charge are making plans on the assumption that Congress will do nothing.

Cinco-X said...

Liz,
Regarding rockets dropped from planes, the X15 we doing that back in the 60s. The space/defense industry doesn't always do the most practical it sensible things. While the Russians were refining their kerosene/hydrazine powered heavy boosters, the Air Farce and NASA were working on a hydrogen slush powered heavy booster. That failed, and the Russian booster business is going strong. We even have to buy rocket engines from the Russians. That's just an idiotic outcome IMHO

Cinco-X said...

DYAC... To many to list

Lawyerliz said...

So the private people are wrong?

Cinco-X said...

Who knows? There is a scalability limit to rockets launched from planes, so perhaps they're counting on using what they learn on small rockets to leverage into bigger rockets that are too large to launch from planes. Rob was just commenting on that particular application of a 42'rocket and 150lb payloads

Cinco-X said...

Rob Dawg said...

USAF wanted slushy hydrogen for fast manned SSTO. I doubt there will ever be a full accounting of how much was wasted.

LBD said...

Private will do the most cost effective way that is proven. NASA should be the leading pioneers of the unknown. I have always understood that there is an advantage to launching in the upper atmosphere and at the equator. Both could be accomplished from airplane launches.
