No English? No Spanish? No Problem!

New Community Radio Station Serves Once Ignored Audience In Ventura County

Excerpt:
The South Coast’s newest radio station isn’t one going after ratings, or to make a lot of money through commercials.

“Radio Indigena” is a brand new FM station in Oxnard licensed to a non-profit group which serves Mixteco, and other indigenous peoples from Mexico who often don’t speak English or Spanish.

Arcenio Lopez is Executive Director of the Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project. MICOP serves about 20,000 Mixtecos, and other indigenous people in Ventura County.

 -----

20,000 people in Oxnard who speak neither English nor Spanish.  No big deal.

I accept your assessment but have an exception. All three progeny are products of the Oxnard Union High School District. The difference? In order to ummmm "retain" kids like these there are schools within schools where quality teaching and advanced courses are available. Now, before you draw the obvious conclusions there are tangible benefits all around. While there exists a core of all AP all the time kids there are also in for one subject kids who otherwise wouldn't have that exposure. Then there is the achievership by simple example that suffuses through the entire student body. Oh and finally there are parents like me who have of necessity from time to time ripped the school administration a new orifice. Keeps them in line.

it would be interesting to calculate an average crime grade (per Area vibes) on all of the "sanctuary"cities in the US.

The vice mayor of Placerville sought a City Council vote on Tuesday to oppose a state Senate bill that would make California a de facto “sanctuary state” for undocumented immigrants.

The resolution was pulled from the agenda after a majority of people in the standing room-only crowd in the City Council chambers said they opposed Vice Mayor Wendy Thomas’ proposal.

Wonder why I left?

Got tired of bending over?

Well my positions finally closed. It was a -good- day. Still, six digit up days make me every bit as nervous as six digit down days. Time to set aside a little more and let the house money ride for a bit.

WLA was going up faster then I could gain speed and the opportunity of Denver was the right fit. I didn't care for all the illegals either. Wasn't a race thing, it was their ignorance and culture drove me huts.

Bought more funds in my IRA this year and they are doing great, the stock Poorfolio is stable to the + side. Gambling with the kids inheritance anyway. :)

yeah I'm about 70/30 cash/stocks right now...complete opposite of where I've been positioned for the last 20 years or so.

You miss out a bit on days like this..but I sleep well at night.. :)

Ralph's grocery offers 30% off when you buy six bottles of wine. That's how I sleep. 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

Serious question. Cash. Stacks of Franklins being a 1.00 and NEW stock certainly being 0.01 where would you rank thinks like AAPL bonds as cashlike?

LBD said...

I sleep well at night and takes a lot of naps as well. ;)

Unknown said...

AAPL bonds?? Probably need a third bucket "Fixed Income". Obviously not much default risk..but you do have some interest rate risk.

The primary risk of sitting in cash of course, is inflation risk.

Looks like yogi landed on Reddit

Unknown said...

..but to answer your question more directly..AAPL bonds (held to maturity)..would be like a .95 on your scale...

LBD said...

How long will Yogi last over there before he goes off?

Rob Dawg said...

Is he posts as "itsanakoma" then he already has.

The New York Times just ran a TV ad during the 6:00 news here in SoCal touting themselves as the place for truth. So many things wrong I don't know where to start.

LBD said...

Now that's funny!

Rob Dawg said...

But it must be true! You know because I read it in...

Just stopped by to say Hi!

I've been pretty busy with work, clients are getting progressively more difficult to deal with.

Feels like a lot of changes going on - I have two vacancies as of today - first time that has happened in many years. There didn't seem to be a lot of people looking for apartments in February. It makes me wonder if employment is frozen up or something. I know of one couple that is downsizing to save money. Maybe the Snap IPO will get some churn going - they are based in Venice, most of which is not a great place to live, but nearby.

Oops, more work issues just crossed the transom....

Morning all... No power this AM, and I don't know how I'm gonna clean up for work...

Cold water

Rob Dawg said...

Yeah, the stream in the back yard isn't frozen is it?

Morning all. Mrs Dawg and I will be good liberals this morning volunteering at KCLU to answer phones for their pledge drive.

Good Morning!

SML your not alone with rentals 3 empties, 2 last months rent skips, no carpet cleaning and little traffic of new renters. Recession is alive and picking up here.

Rob Dawg said...

When I get back an inflation post. For those of you who remember microwave ovens from your youth "inflation" is when monetary policy causes the prices of things to rise.

Rob Dawg said...

Okay. I'll also put up a rental conditions post. We all appear to have stories.

LBD said...

Interesting times here but the cycles are expected, still painful when they occur. If bad enough bargain prices on rental properties will come and then it's buy time again.

Cinco-X said...

I have a well... But even sure I could've managed a cold shower

Cinco-X said...

Mmmmm... Snow runoff

Solar or wood/propane fired heater and generator?

maybe time for the old "apartments for rent" converted to "condos for sale" trick again?? :)

Morning all..

I've noticed a slow down in the rental market up here also. A year or two ago in my complex..when a unit would become available..it would fill again just as fast as the apt mgmt could get it cleaned and ready. Now units can sit empty for a couple months. They don't appear to be lowering their asking prices yet though..will be interesting to see if things improve as we head into the warmer months.

Well... Winter is back. 39°F at noon and winds that must be gusting to 35-40 knots... That's brutal after this recent warm spell
