GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Forest Service law enforcement officer Brad Treat was fatally mauled by a grizzly bear after accidentally surprising and colliding with the animal while mountain biking, the Board of Review Report has determined.
The board released its findings on the June 29 incident and made safety recommendations this week.
According to the report, Treat was mountain biking with a friend on the “Outer Trail” of the Green Gate Trails in the Flathead National Forest. Between 1:30 and 2 p.m. MT, Treat collided with a grizzly bear with his bike at a high rate of speed after rounding a blind curve on the trail.

Candidate for froth detection SoCal zip code: 92037.
This is La Jolla and there seems to be a serious seizure in activity.
Darwin Awatd?
La Jolla "livability score" (per "Area Vibes"..love that website) = 89 (out of 100)..
Weather = A+
Education = B+
Housing = A+ (mostly rates "stability" of home prices)
Cost of Living = F
Crime = A+
Employment = A+
Amenities = A+
Full disclosure. My sister lives in La Jolla. Hard to understand but then consider I live where 90% think I am cray-cray.
kind of surprised Education wasn't an A+ also (mostly looks at high school graduation rates it appears).. 30K population town with an exceptional UC campus next to it..
ot...if you want an idea how loaded the Dominican Republic team is this year (World baseball Classic)...they have Nelson Cruz (typically a top 10 MVP guy in the AL) batting sixth in their line-up today.. :>o
surprised Education wasn't an A+
I was just researching this. My zip code gets an "F." Not a low grade, a flat out fail. Then i saw the issue. My progeny went to a good school in a bad, very bad district. It isn't La Jolla or Western Camarillo but the school district greater districts.
yeah..makes sense..because I'm guessing the high school graduation rate is something like 99.999% in La Jolla proper..
La Jolla is very high and that is with the better students decanted to private schools and the worst students decanted to a different group of private schools. Phillips Exeter is not just for exceptional kids.
just for a hoot looking at condo listings on Zillow for La Jolla..kind of surprised how many foreclosure/auctions they have listed..and I actually saw a 1/1 condo I could theoretically afford!!
another 1/1 condo listed for $300K..last sold $180K in 2010..timing is everything in RE..
I don't know about that A+ rating for housing "stability"..here is the price history for another condo down there..
sold '97 $56,000
sold '04 $245,000
sold/foreclosed '07 (shock!!) $189,000
sold '08 $155,000
sold '14 $170,000
listed '17 $270,000
hahahaha
running some errands..catch you guys later..
Watched a Nova about Spinosaurus, bigger than T Rex! An aquatic dinosaur. From Africa, when it was wet. A little off topic!
Mike, the cheapest Condo in Sebastopol is listed at $425K. Of the 30 residential listings in Greater Sebastopol the cheapest is $49K (Red tagged, in camp meeker and good luck getting a renovation permit.
20 of the 30 are listed for more than $1MM and 24 of 30 are above $900K.
I had the floor today and spoke with a nice young woman whose Mom will buy a house for her (Cash) priced at $500K.
She likes Sebastopol with reason, but I told her to wait until fall and buy in either the Luther Burbank area of Santa Rosa or the JC area.
There is no relationship between median income and home prices in Sonoma County.
