Too Funny

James Kunstler has an entertaining feature called Eysore Of The Month. EOTM highlights some of the stupidest examples of planning and artitecture besotting our fair lands. Like this one:

What's funny is that it is a museum of human rights in Winnepeg. Why funny? Well something about the design nagged at me. Then it struck:

See any resemblance?

LOL!

Call me a traditionalist, but I really think buildings should look like buildings, not something my fractal generator puked out.

Don't insult Fractal Generators that way, StephJ!

They at least pump out stuff that's symmetrical.

Dammit!.......

I'm trying to unpack AND be FIRST. I've got to break out my super secret handheld web browsing box cutter so I can cut boxes and be FIRST.....you bunch of loosers.

Don't get me wrong, Jean. I love my fractals. They're gorgeous. But they shouldn't be buildings. And yes, that hunk of junk is far from symmetrical.

I'm sure one of the design magazines or architecture magazines here used to have a "heap of the week" or "eyesore of the month" spot. Usually some disastrously applied "modernisation" to an older character property.

Over at IAFF

"This is my first international media exposure. Being international is good and all but things have been very crazy at home."

Only Casey could be proud about being an internationally known asshole.

“Did you use the corporate credit card to buy the magazine?”

As he said in his post, he got it for free from the reporter. Learn to read, shithead.

that's right Isamu you Nigel wannabe, as if Casey doesn't tell anything but the truth, so he really must have gotten it for free.

Niiice, that stock I made 18 K on in two weeks just went down another $1.5 per share today. Thank goodness for casey's interest in stocks which is why I sold it! I would have lost almost 25 grand!

Casey, any particular stock that looks like sure thing to you so that I Can short it? I might even pay for some dinky snow crab leg, a wet french fry and some week old cole slaw if it proves to be a useful tip.

Legion, which stock?

Does anyone have an update on the Casey Serin Hair Auction? Did Jtime ever receive his hair?

I'm getting an error when I try to read the new post. Mad HTML skillz again!

I'm really starting to wonder about these 404 errors on the comment pages. The interesting thing is that it's only on the latest post -- the previous one works fine. He's using Wordpress, not building the site by hand. The link on the home page is generated out of the same database field that's used to look up the post when you hit the comments page. I can't see how this sort of thing could happen, save horrible misconfiguration or deliberate action.

Okay... did someone say HAIR AUCTION???

Miranda Mayer said...

Akubi you must elaborate, what did I miss here?

Akubi said...

Yes, someone apparently bought Casey's hair for $59: http://www.myebid.com/cgi-bin/auction/view?cmd=view&listingID=3911

I don't believe it's genuine, though. "Deprest" is a dead giveaway: Casey gets his homonyms mixed up, but he spells them correctly.

(There also was a fake Casey Serin "buy my 8 houses" item on myebid back when this all kicked off -- Casey confirmed that one as bogus. Can't be bothered to Google it up right now.)

That's even worse than this:

and this:

http://www.portofsandiego.org/sandiego/whats_new/spiritoftheseas/tn_spirit_sideview.jpg

(The second one has already been nixed but the first, the new main library, will be built as soon as we get the money. But we've got pro sports franchises to subsidize first.)

Holy crap... good one!

Eere is what Kunstler had to say in his EOTM of Jamuary 2006:

The educated coastal public thinks that evangelical Christianity is America's number one religion. They are wrong. It is the Worship of Unearned Riches, and Las Vegas is its holy city. The belief that it is possible to get something for nothing is more potent in our land than the belief that the Son of God will return to rescue mankind. The Religion of Unearned Riches was established here in the desert by organized crime. It has turned us into a nation of slobs, clowns, patsies, and cravens. Las Vegas is what we have become. Is it any wonder that the rest of the world despises us?

I'm no fan of most of his rants I just like some of the EOTM. A lot of his act is bassakwards. He doesn't like the suburbs, fine. He just goes over when he uses his opinion to declare suburbs "bad." He thinks we are running out of oil and suburbs are bad so they must be energy hogs. They aren't but he's immune to the facts.
