Your Connection Has Been Suspened

Calm down. Casey is doing what any desperate animal would do. He's cornered and yapping and snarling. Off. On. Mysterious behavior. Sad. We all knew this was coming. We all knew that the worse things got the less Casey would talk about. The antennas are out. Nothing will escape the radar. Patience.

What an adorable puppy.

Puppy? I figured that must be Galina in a rage yesterday.

Did I miss something? Who's not calm?

I think I'll name him Foofoo.

I AM THE SERVER OVERLORD

If you do a Refresh on IMFF it says the site has been suspended. I clicked on the site and did not see it; I had to do a refresh before I got the Suspended.

Steph, you tryin' ta ruin my marriage?

I've got what I thought was a cat that ate poseur puppies like in the picture. Turns out knuckle's 19 lbs are all pacifist soft liberal mush. He expects honorifics and doesn't bother to earn them. His little "sister" at all of 6-7 lbs is the bad dawg. She owns the lawn.

ohhh... was I talking about my pets? Not.

Miranda Mayer said...

I already saw that it was suspended. It's suspended a lot. Woopdedoo.

Is that what the uncalm is all about?

Yeesh.

This isn't unexpected.

Heekee, the guy who runs campidiot.com, pays for Casey's hosting.

I will have limited internet access the next couple weeks, I am at the airport about to fly to London. About IAFF, The people we lease the server from have been gracious enough to let us eat up more than our allowed CPU cycles while we are waiting for the dedicated box. I suggested to Casey we temporarily remove the comments from the posts until we can switch to dedicated, he didnt want to, so the account got suspended since the whole server got overrun.

See there are 4 other people on this box guaranteed 20% of the CPU, the hosting company cant allow one account to hog the whole thing. The site wont be back up until either the dedicated box is ready, or we temporarily pull those 300 comment pages.

I'll leave this up to Casey for now since I have real business to attend to.

Miranda Mayer said...

Yeah, I saw a comment from Heekee talking about Casey having to remove comments during the first 'outage' last week.

Now that Casey is talking to a Big Important Publisher, he can't give away his nuggets of wisdom for free anymore, you know.

The book is going to be huge. Sidney Sheldon huge. It's what everyone is going to be reading at the beach this summer...

"It's what everyone is going to be reading at the beach this summer..."

No, you've got that wrong.

It's what Hobbit is going to be WRITING while LIVING ON the beach this summer.

See? That makes a whole lot more sense.

I don't understand who you think needs to calm down. ??

I also don't understand:

Casey is doing what any desperate animal would do. He's cornered and yapping and snarling. Off. On.

Huh? You're way over-reading the fact of his site being down. Simple explanation - same as a few days ago: his site's taking too many server cycles, so Zewg suspended it.

Gaaaaaaaa, reading and sifting thru all of Casey's bookmarked crap....I feel like I am going insane. Now I know how profilers feel when they go into the minds of serial killers.

Yep. When it comes to Casey's mad IT skillz, ineptitude is always a safer bet than malice.

IAFF is somewhat up now with an interesting Yahoo ad:

No sign of the dedicated server™ then? The IP address still hasn't changed, I see.

I'm fairly certain that what is trying to be conveyed in a subtle manor, is that Casey is not fixing his KNOWN server issue. Mostly, you know, doing what he usually does which is nothing. Then napping because doing nothing can be quite strenuous if you aren't careful about it.

Per the Terrible Dot on CI:

He conned Heeks into giving him a dedicated server and I suspect it's all in the process of changing over right now..

Possibly...

...yapping and snarling.?

Au contraire - he's quite silent!

Sorry, got a $9k/mo looser™ W-2, so I can't monitor the site. I'm responding in this thread instead of the thread it originated in.

@PV
All they have to do is stop buying the new issues. All those dollars paid for principal start piling up in the Asian banks (even faster than they're piling up now), draining cash out of the U.S. If the Federal government, and Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, and Wall Street aren't able to sell bonds into Asia (and now the Middle East) because there is no appetite for them, the influx of dollars that the U.S. needs to stay afloat can dry up in a hurry.

Actually, it won't case a problem, it will actually help the US. It will prop up the currency exchange rate between US dollars and other currencies. Then all the US has to do in increase M0 (printing press technique) and other countries will be sopping up the overrun. No inflation will occur because other countries will be sopping up the currency by holding the dollars when their treasuries mature. It is when the foreign countries start selling US currency and US currency backed investment assets, that we see a problem. It will cause a run on the currency as other countries see their holdings of US dollars devaluing (as well as the any dollar based assets) and try to get out ahead of everyone else.

When a currency is devaluing, any asset that is based on that currency has to have a % return rate greater than the rate the currency is devaluing just to break even. To match other investments, ie local return rates for the foreign country, it will be the sum of the two rates. If US currency is devaluing at 7%/yr and a local investment of equal risk yields 5%, the US return rate on same risk would have to be 12% just to get foreign countries interested.

This goes to the real reason why the equity flood will dry up. In order for treasuries to be competitive, their rates will have to match what can be gotten by a foreign entity adjusted for dollar devaluation rates. If we use the example previously calculated, the only way for the Government to deficit spend would be if treasuries yielded 12%... driving up in country interest rates. We have been here before, Stagflation.

If the buyers for new debt were to disappear, the U.S. would have a difficult time making the payments on the existing debt--because, after all, there's a very real Ponzi-scheme effect in play right now, where new debt is, in effect, being issued to make payments on existing debt.

We are already there with personal debt of many people, and to some extent the country too.

If payments aren't being made on current debt, then that debt defaults
It can be paid for in 'printed' dollars (increased M0, since the treasure does have the power to generate $ out of thin air). The problem with this is that it is inflationary. Of course, increased interest rates are deflationary.. The two combined creates the stagflation. High interest rates (ie 12%) makes it hard for debt based capital to be used to generate revenues. (ie corporate loan/bond to build a new factory).

Actual defaulting is far worse in the capital markets because it causes a risk adjustment to be made to the returns. If there is a 25% chance of default on the US treasuries, the 12% return now has to be about 16% (adjusted for risk). This is why I mentioned Russia who defaulted on their bonds. I don't think Japan did. They just funded the cost with a very very low treasury rate, which incidentally caused inflation of asset values in other countries through the carry trade.

And Nigel has a post up about the outage at the Casey love-in.

Heh.

So if HeeKee says he's leaving it up to Casey to resolve, doesn't that mean Casey could do something about it with his mad skillz?

@Rob Dawg
he lawyers are after the criminal/slander/libel posts (I don't know which) parts of my recent fame... If they are the core perps they'll be addressed in Bristol Fashion.

I guess it is one of the things that can't be discussed (in process).

I had a kitty like that. 25 pounds of tabby that discovered at a young age that he enjoyed beating up dogs.

When he was 10 months old a German Shepherd attacked him. The dog's owners had to beat my cat off with a broom. The dog had to have part of his nose removed.

I think Chessie must have gotten addicted to the adrenaline rush or something after that.
