What is it really worth #3
This little beauty is into the bank(s) for $300/sf. Not even enough room for a meth lab... On to plan "C."
Again, you couldn't pay me to own tji one for at least a few more years.
You guys are total goobers. But that's why I adore you all so.
I'd say, in SE Portland, a Piece of Caca like that would probably sell in the $138,000-155,000 range. In the pretentious, crunchy, birkenstock and Tiva wearing, granola eating, Emo sections of town, upwards of $300,000 with ease, despite the total crap-hole that it is.
Rob, you seem oblivious to the fact that makeshift meth labs are found in such small spaces as the back of a U Haul truck or even in the trunk of an automobile. In light of this, I do believe that house would be perfect for an entrepreneurial hillbilly home-schooled chemist to set up shop.
In my particular corner of the inland PNW, I see houses with comparable specs (but in better shape and in much nicer areas) for $180-220k, which is absurd.
Point of clarification: No argument but as of Oct 6th, 2005 (shortly after breaskfast in northwest Camarillo, CA)) "Asking Price" in California has been officialy renamed "Wishing Price." This represents the absolute tippy top of the worldwide housing market as asset bubble and also when and where the pin was inserted.
Ok, I know this is off topic, but check this out. They appear to be one and the same. Either that, or Tim MBA is impersonating Tim May. If you dig around on IAFF, you'll see a post from him that talks about the alpha particle problem discussed on the Wikipedia page linked above.
Yeah, Tim MBA posted on IAFF about how he solved the alpha particle problem for Intel. If you read some of the not-so-batshit-insane Usenet posts, the writing style appears to be same. Could be a really good troll on IAFF but I doubt it.
Sputnik, we need you. There are shoes in Monterey Bay that cannot remain un-pooped-in. Might I suggest switching to a new brand of cat food beforehand, for that little added effect?
Let's not beat this to death. Tim has not persisted. We owe him the same IMO. I'm not asking anyone to forgive or forget or anything like that but persistent rehashing of past events isn't productive or amusing.
How many times has he had "good feelings" about someone while heading for a self-created disaster?
That's interesting. While none of us is completely con-proof, I think most people can rely on intution to warn them when they're getting into a bad situation. I for one recently walked away from a deal for no reason other than a bad gut feeling that I couldn't shake. Only later did I piece together the various warning signs that I was about to get screwed. My conscious mind missed them at the time but my subconscious did not.
If we go by his statements on IAFF, Casey appears to lack that mechanism. No matter how often he gets scammed, he continues to have warm feelings about the very people who do the scamming. Has he suppressed his intution, or does he simply not pick up any warning signs? Perhaps he suffers from the opposite of paranoia.
@ Casey Fannnnn
Nothing is certain on the internet, but it appears so. Now, in deference to Rob, I will say nothing more about it.
You've got it. For whatever reason, Casey seems to be a very poor judge of character. It could be narcissism, it could be naivety, it could be plain stupidity -- take your pick.
Hey Wowzers I dont know if 'Tim May' is the same tim from mba but what he is threatening in writing is SCARY and also its ILLEGAL to make death threats as per the link in your first post. In fact, death threats against congressman will earn you a visit from the FBI! Even CS isnt threatening people.
Here is a scary scary quote for anyone here who works at the FBI from the first link from wowzers above its apparently from tim may:
"As for government, I estimate that 99% of those in Congress and government agencies in the past 40 years have earned killing. Of current Congressvarmints, only two seem to be not guilty. Of low-level employees, a bunch are just willing dweebs, and may be able to work off their debts in a labor camp for a decade or two. But probably the cleaner solution is just to do a thermonuclear cauterization of the region surrounding Washington and start fresh from there with a very limited government that honors the Constitution instead of catering to negroes and queers and welfare addicts.
Crypto anarchy will make delivering justice to tens of millions a reality. The world will learn a lesson when we burn off these criminals."
- end quote. It looks like this nut made the threats in 2003 which after 911 everyone should know not to make jokes or offhand statements like that.
I agree with Rob Dawg. Lay off Tim. Believe it or not, there was a time when interesting/eccentric ideas could be expressed on the net without worrying about lawsuits, PC crap, Reality Television, Big Brother, AOL TimeWarner, etc.. Personally, I found Tim’s comments quite interesting and the very fact that he admitted to saying what he did the morning after shows a good old fashioned netiquette. P.S. I am not Tim and I am in fact female but get annoyed with PC “of my the horror of it crap.”
@8020: You may not be horrified by Tim's behaviour, but some of us are genuinely disturbed to learn that someone with whom we interacted positively over the course of many months in fact appears to espouse these hateful views.
Out of respect for Rob Dawg, it might be a good idea to take the Tim discussion elsewhere. I'd suggest the venue from which it came, but it seems you have to register for http://theinsult.com/. Does anyone have a venue in which they'd care to volunteer a comments thread?
Re: Tim from MB As inappropriate as his drunken tirade was, I'm with Rob on this, and don't think we should dwell on him either. I think people say a lot of stuff they might regret in forums where there is some 'anonymity'.
I'm not excusing his death-threats, but I think that by ganging up on him while he's not here to defend himself (which says something for him, that he has respected his promise to step away), and to class him with Nigel and Casey is a bit much. It's almost like we're acting no better than he did. What happens between him and the people he offended is between them.
He's had the consideration to stay away after his notorious breakdown with Mel, so let's at least offer him some common consideration.
That's my two dirty pennies.
As for Casey and Nigel; it's open season; because they both continue to invite ridicule.
ok i agree also, lets lay off. I dont think tim mba was serious in any threats.
im sure we have all made off hand comments before that we didnt mean.
its unfortunate the web is not anonymous and in fact you might as well enter all comments into the public record at the court house, not the best place for angry drunken polical discourse.
... and now back to our regularly scheduled program.
The question was about what the Larchmont house is worth. My father-in-law owns and lives about four blocks away in exactly the same model - built by Larchmont homes about 1958. Also a corner lot. They added two rooms thirty years ago, so the square footage is greater. The carpet needs replacing but at least it's there. He had it appraised in December for estate purposes, not for sale, so it's not a wishing price. The answer to your question? $220,000.

Even out here, it's looking a bit bubbly.
In the midwest, south of $100K.
bah. that house doesn't look like its zoned residential.
It should be zoned "C" -- as in "crackhouse".
I should clarify that the range I quoted is asking price, not actual sale price.

Wowsers - awesome find! Whoa.
@Wowzers,
Thanks for the Tim MBA info.
His Wiki entry sounds like a vanity piece he wrote by himself, about himself.
When I read his early posts at IAFF, I envisioned a self-important, bloviating, preening twit. But I didn't see the nutcase in him. Wow!
I missed the connection between Tim May and Tim from MBA. Where's that line drawn, again?
-S
@ Wowsers
Fuck me sideways but that guy's nuts. Just the first of the posts you linked to was enough to sicken me.
The incident on EN the other weekend was mild compared to that stuff.
Hey Mel,
If you're around, put a face to your mortal enemy, Tim from MBA -

Check out the sweeeeeeeet woodgrain paneling and the 8-tracks or whatever on the wall. Sadly, he's not wearing his Spock ears in this photo.

he looks like the fucking unabomber in that picture
Holy hell, those Tim MBA posts are truly vile! And here I thought he was just the average pontificating blowhard.
Can we sic Homie on him when we're done with Casey?

Anyone else here PRAYING that Casey attempt the short sale himself so he can get "the experience?"
I know I am.
@Rob "...persistent rehashing of past events isn't productive or amusing."
Productive - agree
Amusing - disagree
Casey says:
"I just talked with my current agent’s broker and I got a good feeling about her."
I'm SO happy she was nice and polite to him. That MUST mean she'll work hard for him.
How many times has he had "good feelings" about someone while heading for a self-created disaster?
Pardon my density but I'm looking for explicit verifcation:
Tim from Monkey Bay who went nuts here, is the same guy who says "40 million bums, queers, welfare mammies and addicts should go up in chimney smoke"?
That guy seems a little angry. I never heard of 'vengeance libertarianism'.
Casey says:
"Outsourcing this whole thing to a competent short sale agent is the way I want to go. This way I can focus on the 20%."
He is REALLY big out "outsourcing".
In Caseyland, outsource = lazy.
Wonder what 20% includes in his addled mind?
- naps
- JJ
- blogging

Again, late to the party (it's my fault for living in SE Asia)
I wonder if Tim from MBA would be so supportive of Casey if he was black. I think he'd wish him dead / burn up in smoke a long time ago.
But I liked Tim's commentary except the stuff last weekend. I am now dropping the subject as well.
