Soliciting for Suggestions

There seems to be a groundswell for a "tip jar" with the purpose of funding things that actually cost money. Background and licience plate searches have been suggested. Seems like a good idea but We aren't going to set up a charitable remainer trust with a board of directors so unless there's a better plan I would have to skim a few bucks to cover admin, reporting and such as part of the program. So, I'm thinking (in order) paying for research, overhead at cost and the rest to a national charitable org like Habitat. What is thy will?

Charity is always good.

Does this mean we should start a spreadsheet with xxx going to "tithing" activities like the bungle boy?

Is there some charity we can provide to that helps the disenfranchised get a home? Wouldn't that be perfect!

I vote that any residual be used for lube for the Boy Wonder.

I'm in, with the caveat that if we do uncover some evidence that disputes Casey's story about Homeless Dude or whatever else comes down the pike, we prepare a hard copy and mail it to him with a nice card--like "We"re Thinking of You," signed--Rob Dawg and the folks at Exurban Nation.

Rob, please be careful about doing anything that could give the appearance of tracing license plates (among other kinds of protected information) for pay. You could risk running afoul of privacy laws.

Hey Dawg - count me in as well. Gotta say, I loved the post about Casey being the American Idle.

I think that these blogs are driving Casey over the edge. His fans (as he thinks anyone who comments on his site is) have left in droves and have set up shop elsewhere. His ideas, mentors and sponsors have all petered out. No more talk about 100 unit apartments or $5,000/mo. passive income. Now he is wasting his days (and the taxpayers money) dreaming of ways to woo his fan club back. The wording of the last few posts was so obvious - he was dying for an oldtimer to take the bait. Sorry, looser!

Where's Homey? I bet Homey can get Cashcall to add to the tip jar in exchange of all of CS's info. I'm pretty sure Homey can throw in Galina, Aleksey and Anna's information too if they tip a little more.

He also had/has uh trojan dat wuz on his site, which iz another reason I will not visit it.

So what can Casey do with IPs? IPs do not automatically yield up email addresses. Any blog's sitemeter yields up IPs for anyone to see. I've been checking Casey's site since December, and my spam level remains the same - fairly light. Browser is Firefox, sometimes Torpark and Seamonkey, with AdBlock. Email client is Thunderbird, with a moderately comprehensive set of spam filters. I scan weekly for trojans and so forth, and I have received none from IAFF or elsewhere.

I do look forward to further tales of this "kat-puppy's" sickness. Mo, Homey, Mo. Don't be so reticent and cryptic wif a bruvva.

Dang Homey, your post gave me chills. I hope the boy isn't planning a revenge on any of us, especially our kind host. But it would be interesting if he chose me as a target considering my guy is a heavy weapons specialist and doesn't appreciate any form of BS. In fact, he might appreciate a little target practice.

I do regret going to IAFF now cause I have porno spam - never again. And I am emailing fraud alert at CashCall asap.

Thanks, as usual, for the info. You are one smart clown.

As someone else said, IP's generally don't translate to email addresses.

And if your ISP gives you a dynamic address, all that tells someone is what ISP you're coming from.

E.g. I have DSL with a dynamic address, and the computers in my house are behind a NAT router/firewall. So, someone logging my IP get zip.

Damn Homey, you sure work fast!!

Casey's latest post.........

Uh oh…

Your Payment was Returned

February 07, 2007

RE: Loan xxxxxx

Dear Borrower,

Your scheduled payment to CashCall, Inc. set up through automatic debit in the amount of $220.48 was returned unpaid by your bank. Pursuant to the CashCall Promissory Note and Disclosure Statement, (”Note”), a returned item fee of $15.00 was charged to your loan.

Your loan is now past due and you must immediately replace this payment via a MoneyGram transaction in the amount of $235.48 (see instructions below). Failure to make good on this loan payment may negatively impact your credit standing and you may be subject to incur additional fees (please see the “Note” for clarification).

If you have any questions, you may reach CashCall, Inc. at (866) 899-xxxx

Sincerely,

CashCall, Inc.

Damn a $15.00 late fee, that's almost half a Jamba Juice. Ouch!!!

Just wanted to add: Your IP address has ZERO dollar value and has no connection whatsoever to your e-mail address. IP addresses can be used to estimate your basic geographic location, and can be used in conjunction with a sophisticated ad-serving system to display more-targeted banner or text ads in web pages you visit. But not e-mail.

E-mail spam comes in one of two main ways: either your email address is harvested, or spammers do what is called a "dictionary" attack and use some basic scripting to send out emails to a huge number of likely addresses (for example, sending an email to every possible combination from bob11111@example.com to bob99999@example.com).

So please, guys, knock off the tinfoil hat theories about "Casey is selling our IPs!!" -- you may well be getting more SPAM, but posting on IAFF is not the reason why.

Sure - I'll kick up into the tip jar as long as it goes to good use - e.g outing Casey to his lenders and LE, making his life more miserable, and once that's done the rest goes to someone who deserves help.

It's all good!

However, Casey does require an email address on his comments form.

Not that you have to give him a real one, of course...

Howdy Rob. A boy goes aay for few days & it's pandemonium, blog style.

1) Are we supposed to be doing something new? Like posting on iaff with your web linked?

2) As for tip jar, I still like your idea of sending girl scout cookies to the military. Makes me feel less of a "hater." :)

Sprezzatura's right about the IP address not being useful for email spamming.

But it can be used to target netborne nastiness (viruses, trojans, etc.).

I'll donate $.

I hope the trustees of The Tip Jar will consider it a proper use of it's funds to buy some nice flowers for the first prosecutor (fed, state, muni, etc) to provide our hero with some new, shiny steel bracelets.
