Former L.A. prosecutor gets 10-year term
By Raul Hernandez,
February 1, 2007

A judge sentenced a former Los Angeles County prosecutor to 10 years in prison Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including grand theft, forgery and identity theft.
...
According to prosecutors, Sergojan engineered a series of frauds so that she could purchase a $500,000 home in Westlake Village in 2002. Her first fraud was an identity theft and forgery scam that she carried out while working as a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney, prosecutors claim.
...
Sergojan was prosecuted for the frauds connected with the home buying in Los Angeles, where she pleaded guilty to four felonies in October 2003.

In January 2004, she was given probation after paying full restitution to the victims. Sergojan forfeited her State Bar license in March 2004, according to prosecutors.

In 2004, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department discovered that Sergojan repaid her Los Angeles victims with proceeds from a new fraud, Leventhal said.

In October 2003, Sergojan stole her estranged husband's identity to procure a $200,000 loan. She secured the loan by pledging valuable land that her husband owns in Sonoma County, prosecutors said.

From long before the CS trainwreck, I was coming to think that this country had just become a vast melting pot of liars, swindlers and cheats.

In large part I still do believe that but the one good thing that has come out of our FFF story is being able to read all of the sensible comments being posted. Maybe, just maybe we haven't lost our way completely. Are there really enough of us with commonsense to fix the mess we've gotten into?

I think we are at a very significant crossroad in this countries history. Either we continue the farce of "economic growth" on the back of derivitatives, mortgage equity withdrawl and cheap money from Asia or we suck it up, and face our future liabilities head on.

Will it be painful? Yes.
Will we have to sacrifice? Yes.
Will it be worth it to have a clean house? YES!

I say lock up all the criminals, white collar crime or not, and let's get back to what America was built on, hard work and dedication.

***rant off***

Unlike CS I have a J-O-B and was working my @ss off yesterday, now I've got to catch up on a whole day of drama! Man I wish I had a sweet deal on the side so I could wake up at 11 every day, blog and drink JJ w/WS...

as Nelson ala The Simpson's would say "HA, ha" to Mr. Duane LeGate.

We all told you so from the first day you jumped on IAFF.

Casey is a natural born moron and he's been ignoring us for MONTHS, why would he listen to you?

HE WANTS ANOTHER SWEET DEAL, NOT ANY SENSIBLE HELP TO GET OUT OF HIS MESS!

Welcome to the world of the "haters" DL.

"Anyone know why Duane would jump ship so fast?"

Today's episode of:

As The Worm Turns...

**ring**

L'il Casey: "Hullo?"

Sugar Daddy Duane: "Casey, it's Duane. It's time for our weekly meeting to see where you're at. What have you done since I lasttalked to you? Have you called your lenders?"

LC: "Uh...no, I have mixed feelings about that. I've got 3 piles of paper on my desk now, and I'm sorting! It's sweet!"

SDD: "Casey, you'r supposed to be working on paying off your debt. Have you called Chris about working this month?"

LC: "Dude, that hater won't answer my calls. Hey, how do you collate? It sounds really sweet!"

SDD: "Sigh...Casey, focus. Remember what we talked about? Focus. What about the Utah property, have you figured out everything there?"

LC: " Uh, I have mixed feelings about that. what? What?!?!?! Galina, I'm on the...hang on Duane...no, you can't buy those shoes, I spent the money from the car. No, you can't use your credit cards. No, Duane said not to get any new..."

Galina, in background: "You LOSER!"

Door slams.

LC: "Duane?"

SDD: " Casey, what money from the car?"

LC: "Dude, this guy, he totally wanted to help, I gave him the slip to the Dub and he gave me money!"

SDD: ' At what interest rate?"

LC: "um...I....hey, look, Power Rangers is on!"

SDD: 'Casey..."

LC: (irritated) "Dude, hang on this is a good one...okay, what?"

SDD: " Casey, focus. What have you done to increase hits on the websites? You're no good to me with no hits, it's what I'm paying you for."

LC: 'Dude, I totally got someone to help filter out the haters."

SDD: " Casey, we talked about that, how it would kill the audience, you hav eto take the good and the bad, what they say isn't as important as the eyeballs you get, to sell the site or get advertising."

LC: " Dude, it's totally organic now, and the haters are gone. It's a sweet deal!"

SDD: "Sigh..."

LC: " I gotta go Duane, I have to fall forward some more today. I have to look at this time share thingy someone sent me, and open my mail...ooh, Victoria's Secret!"

SDD: "Casy?.....Casey?....Casey, are you there?"

From Casey's site on Jan 23, Duane's first comment posted:

I am trying to work with Casey to do the following:

1) Stop chasing the shiny object.
2) Forget about real estate for a minimum of 6 months (one step at a time folks)
3) Monetize his best asset (technology and blogging skills)
4) Contact ALL debtors and work out a plan
5) Pay back over time everyone he as intentionally or unintentionally screwed.
6) No more seminars
7) Responsibility for his actions

Those are just a few things.

If I think that Casey can walk the straight and narrow, I will work with him. It has less to do with money to me that responsibility.

I cautioned him in the past about the seminars, corporate credit, etc..

I am hoping that Casey can turn the corner. If so, I will help him in any way humanly possible. If not, I will turn into one of those train wreck statistics.

Wow, Duane was only involved for 10 days given that last post? How times flies.

The chase for the shiny object is back on!

Gameover @ 7:35

Are there enough of us? I hope so. Rob Dawg and the rest of the good people on here have renewed my faith.

And back to our regularly scheduled program....

This story is unique in that most identity theft that we see in private practice (at least here in Oklahoma) is people using the proceeds to buy methamphetamine (crank, ice, crystal meth). Here you have a story of a prosecutor using the proceeds to buy a house? It just goes to show that even prosecutors can be dumb, I guess. Did she seriously think she wouldn't get caught?

This story sounds like one of those comedy "Moron" awards that they play on the radio every morning.

Rob Dawg said...

Okie, read the entire article. She got caught TWICE. The first four felonies were given probation when she made restitution with the proceeds of another scheme. I imagine you are going to start seeing a lot of "I didn't know s/he signed my name to those documents" cases.

Casey's totally useless trip to NM proabably push Duane over the edge. Too bad he didn't listen to us haters, he would be $1500 richer right now.

@Rob:

The first four felonies were given probation...

WTF.

That's just not right.

Rob Dawg said...

Ogg,
White collar crime, first time offences, former prosecutor, supposed full restitution = probation. Man will the prison cave ever get crowded if we start stacking those up. Let's be honest as well, The former prosecutor bit got her special treatment. It's not like the legal system makes money from these types of criminals like they do with drunk drivers and such.

This prosecutor will become Galina's new "guru."

We know Galina's trolling these days looking for a "new" Casey who'll pay off her credit cards, take care of her tuition and make sure she remains in the style to which she had "hoped" to achieve.

Once she's got the guy on the hook, she'll use the prosecutor's scams to further her real estate empire.

Sweet!
