Age of Limits

Blog note. The forward failing late great State of Kalifornia has declared a flexalert. This is an informal request to reduce power consumption. What it means is that the idiots are running the asylum. What part of 2007 should mean turning off the air conditioner or face rolling blackouts?

Thus if your host or several other notable participants go silent you can assume we are doing our part in keeping garages full or illegals out in Fontucky cool.

I've been wondering about this "worm sign" stuff, and now that I hear it's something from "Dune," which I haven't read because I only read sci-fi when there's a gun to my head, and thankfully that hardly ever happens, so what exactly does it mean?

Sprezzatura said...

@mejustme --

In "Dune" one of the main plot points is the existence of very large, very deadly monsters called "sand worms" that spent a lot of their time underground. Characters in the book learn to pay attention to 'worm signs' on the sand showing that the sandworms might be nearby, because if a human encountered a worm, s/he generally did not live to tell the tale.

lawnmower man said...

@mejustme: I was never a fan of Dune, but from memory: Dune is desert, the worms burrow in the sand, and the wormsign is surface movement of sand which indicates sandworm activity below the surface.

Similarly, wormsign on IAFF is surface movement -- posts, comments, comment moderation -- that indicates that the fraudworm is active.

(And BTW I really liked the last line of this comment. Ouch.)

Rob Dawg said...

mejustme,
The wormsign is indeed from the Dune saga. I used a great picture a few months ago and it has since entered EN lore as indication that our fliptard has surfaced and we can use our maker hooks to ride the beast and steer him to our aims. Yes coastal Kalfornia is nice, Mr. Magoo is nice to visit, but the desert is where it's at., Dale's Palm and all that.

I wonder if Snowflake is going to start a sideline in energy trading, maybe get a job with CalISO as an energy trader. Why under "Med Fly" Grey he would have been rewarded for his skills.

Unknown said...

mort,
where in OK are you located? electricity is cheap there. Biggest reason is the use of SPRB coal. However, get ready for your rates to jump in 3-4 years as the BNSF and UP are not negotiating transportation contracts any longer. All coal transportation is being turned into tariff based rates. I'd guess your rates are up 50% in 5 years or so. Moving coal is the largest cost of producing electricity to most coal fired plants.

Unknown said...

FMW, agreed. movie was kinda uuhh. I want to come back with mentat abilities

Anonymous said...

aaron, although there are coal plants here in central OK, and they are building a coal plant north of here, my electricity is currently (get it, currently?) nat. gas fired. Also, in case you didn't read what I wrote, I use less than 500 KwH per month. My electric rates could double and my monthly bill still wouldn't top $100. I have been an electricity miser and I am getting damn good at it. You don't scare me one bit bucko, I know how to live off the land too. Let me see how you city slickers fare when the SHTF. HAHAHA!! It isn't specifically illegal immigration but the overcrowding in old places that lack capacity and the expolsive growth of the Inland Empire, Antelope and Central Valleys with their monster peak demand loads.

aaron, this blog is full of trolls and flamebaits and is generally confrontational, but I will go easy on you if you want to be civil. The gas power plant is less than twenty miles as the crow flies from where I live and the high tension lines run straight from there to here. I am pretty sure I know where my power comes from. They buy from other sources during peak demand, not visa versa. Also we have wind and hydro here as well. The new coal plant is of a very efficient design and will likely usurp less efficient plants as time goes by. I am as pro renewable energy as you will find. Also, I assumed you were in CA, that is my bad.

I worked for oglethorpe power corp for 2 years. Gas power plants are considered peaking resources and are generally used to cover peak loads.

Basically, the fire order of plants is nuclear, water, coal, gas, and finally diesel peakers.

there are some combined cycle (natural gas)plants that operate low enough on their $/MwH level that they operate fairly normally.

Over on Caseypedia, Sharkey Laguna came in, and requested a special page for him to leave an intact, unedited email response to his portrayal on Caseypedia, along with a new pic that he would prefer to have used (one with a kewler ski-dude persona, and also one of the hard-rockin' axe-man on stage. How nice of him.)

Of course, he was obliged.

But then, he also complains of his characterization as a [shock!] 'captalist', as well as kveching about the pic a Google search turned up of him on the slopes in a knit cap.

What a shallow poseur, to be concerned about such vain trivia, when he still characterizes as mere 'mistakes' the spree of Casey's confessed multiple (EIGHT, with NINE ATTEMPTED) consecutive, intentional serial mortgage frauds in rapid succession, done quickly and in various geographies in order to warily attempt to avoid being detected prior to the pay out, with a total loan-out of $2,200,000.00 in a just few short weeks to an unemployed ex-website guy, who claimed he would live in each house.

And what is on Sharkey's mind?

Why, he requested the current ski photo be replaced with one of the keweler offerings, and he provides a link to even more action shots of our hero on the slopes.

Can you say "self-important jerk?"

Missionite said...

"Over on Caseypedia, Sharkey Laguna came in, and requested a special page"

I didn't request a special page. In fact I specifically asked to be on the same page where someone who doesn't know me from Adam was repeatedly referring to me as a "prick", in capital letters no less. Judging by the similar tone, it sounds like it could have been you... The editorial decision to put my response on a completely separate page with no link to the page I was responding to was not my choice, decision, or desire.

"But then, he also complains of his characterization as a [shock!] 'captalist',"

I didn't complain, I just pointed out that to the best of my knowledge I didn't meet any of the three definitions listed for "capitalist" at dictionary.com. If you had called me a couch I don't think it's complaining to point out that I don't meet any of the normally accepted definitions of a couch.
I even allowed that you might have meant some other definition of the word "capitalist", but then what puzzled me was I don't see how I'm different from anybody else who has to make money to pay the bills. It's kind of like calling me a rotten no good air breather.

"as well as kveching about the pic a Google search turned up of him on the slopes in a knit cap."

I think it's pretty clear that I was joking around, but I suppose in your humorless way you would prefer I threaten to sue everybody for copyright infringement for posting my friends flickr photos without asking his permission.
All I'm saying is if you are going to use one of the only pictures taken of me on the first and only day I ever skied in my entire life, and then publicly mock me as though I'm some wealthy skiing capitalist guy, then at least use a picture where I'm not hiding under my wife's hat, so that way when you get ready to form your mob action brigade to take me out and/or string me up by my toes, you'll at least know you got the right guy.
Lord knows I wouldn't want someone else with a double chin and a goofy face to have to pay for my sins.

While I'm here I might as well point out that given the laws of unintended consequences, I'm wondering at just what point will some of you feel like you got your revenge, your pound of flesh, or whatever result it is that you are seeking, and how will you know you got it? For instance let's say for exmple you drive one of Casey's family members (such as Galina, who it seems like some of you are practically hitting on) into such despair that they commit suicide. Will you look back and be proud of all the time you spent on this (and other blogs) coming up with new ways to hound Casey and his family?

I think at this point the proper authorities have been notified probably at least a hundred times over. I know this will be ignored, but perhaps the wheels of justice could be allowed to turn without a lynch mob constantly trying to put their thumb on the scales? What are you guys going to do if prosecutors just aren't interested and your lawsuits result in nothing? Burn Casey's apartment down?
To tht end, I'm not sure how some of you are able to justify posting the personal information and photos of people who are at most marginally involved, and certainly have not engaged in any criminal activity (such as Galina's parents for example). Really, you should be ashamed, but I already know there is little chance of that. The self righteous fire is burning too hot to allow for any true self examination. Ironic, isn't it?

Oh and I know plenty of criminals who later realized their criminal actions were a "mistake". Just because it's criminal doesn't mean it's not a mistake and vice versa. Get over yourself.

I've been following this saga since the beginning, and most of the folks (regulars, not trolls) here on EN (as far as I can tell) are pretty decent people. Most of us believe Galina was not involved in plotting Casey's "crimes" - only involved at the margin in trying to manage the mess.

You all make interesting points about who is responsible for the negative consequences and the so called

Butterfly effect

verses mercy and compassion for Casey, and all, in this regard.

I have understood from Rob that EN always observes

"The Prime Directive"

We are observers that opine rather than participants in the drama. As for me this would be the case.
Yet, the cast of players has grown, and we have actual posters here that are involved directly with Casey, who are the "EN Sources" I reckon. They found us through their involvement with Casey, and again, EN'ers are observerz (TM), IMO.

I would be very un-happy if someone was hurt or died and EN was at fault, but I hardly think we are THAT important in the day to day Soap Box that is KC's life.
We are more like
Gladys Kravitz, the nosy neighbor in the "Bewitched" TV show.
My point is that anyone "at war" with Casey, Casey drew in and not EN. The Butterfly Effect is around Cast's actions, not ours.
I do not think I am rationalizing, just my 2 cents from a front row seat, which Casey provided for me.

OK gang... sorry about that.. we have a new little weenie dog that thinks every piece of carpet is her own personal potty...

Rob had alluded a week or so ago about new players coming into the mix. He was right. A 2 hour conference call took place last night. There were 2 people on the CC that most people here are not familiar with. I wont bring their names in the open yet. What I will say is they have immense credibility in... MORTGAGE FRAUD...

Mark's suit is just the beginning of an avalanche of action that is coming down the pike.

We have all said that Casey has never had to face consequences.. he will... all the times that people advised him to do the right thing - only for Casey to ignore them- will now come home to roost.

If you have ever seen the arcarde game "whack a mole"... that is what is getting ready to happen to Casey.. from all sides of legal.. there is almost no state or federal department that wouldnt have jurisdiction in some way.

And lemme clarify something.. when I say getting ready.. it still (UGH) takes time... but for once (and this is outside of a citizen -Mark) we have LE looking at the case...

I have also heard more in depth stories about our beloved Casey. You really have to wonder about the boys motives for keeping his family quiet... for if they were to go public... it would sicken you WORSE than ever...

all for now...

No- they probably did the decent thing. Leave a note telling him when he can come get his stuff. A time when G won't be there, but his brother Steve will: Making sure Casey doesn't get all sticky fingers is Yulia's place.

So I guess it's back to Mom and Dad's where they can keep an eye on him, or it's couch surfing. Maybe his local rich dad would let him crash in the office for a few nights.

Snicker.

Duane,

Very intriguing. And judging from past performance (Not welcome home?!?!) you are one seriously on-the-level dude.

So, why are you trying to screw Casey out of making an honest living, helping people facing foreclosure learn from his mistakes?

Oh hell I could barely type that last line I was laughing so hard.

This kinda reminds me of that scene in "Trainspotting" where the parents lock their kid in his bedroom - and bar the door and windows - until he fully withdraws from heroin.

I think Casey's parents need to do something similar...

It’s very late and I gotta catchup on a lot of stuff tomorrow morning (Friday), so no time for a lengthy post. The talkcast is still on. Join me at 5pm Pacific.

Also, looks like Casey is close to realizing his dream of living in a van...of course all he needs is a van.

@Duane: I was pleased to see you say that you'd like to see KC turn things around. Sometimes there's too much hate here for this haterz taste. I understand why people take this personally, but the truth of the matter is that few, if any, of the haterz have been directly hurt by KC's actions unless they've chosen to get involved.

This is why I'm against LMP's lawsuit. Sure, he has the right to file whatever he wants, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do.

I want KC to learn the error of his ways. If criminal charges or divorce are the means to that end OK. If he comes to his senses and starts acting responsibly (unlikely I know) then even better. I don't see how any of us have the right to stick are noses into the situation though. Publishing phone numbers, releasing information without permission and so on are all below the belt IMHO. I'm not saying Duane's done those things, he hasn't, but many have.

I don't know how you could have possibly distorted the facts in a way where you thought it would be OK to leave your wife for a month to go on vacation in Australia, even if your claims of sending money home are true (which we have verified as being false). Also, I don't understand how you thought it would be OK to saddle your mom with mountains of corporated debt that you are completely unable to pay off, if you even wanted to. But then again, I have common sense which is like kryptonite to the Casey Reality Distortion Field.

I wouldn't let it get you too down though. You'll need your strength for the coming lawsuits (notice...plural...Mark's lawsuit is just the teaser).

@Duane: Well said, I agree 100% that KC needs to turn things around in the "right" way and an intervention may well be the only way to do that.

The thing that bugs me is when someone who has nothing to do with the folks involved takes it upon themselves to play big brother. It's one thing when KC's family calls you or Rob for help. Posting KC's phone number or filing a lawsuit in the guise of being a "good citizen" is taking things too far I believe.

The lawsuit will play out and I may be proven wrong. If it turns out that the lawsuit has positive effects and is welcomed by those involved (KC's family in particular) then I'll bow my head and apologize. I don't think that's going to happen however.

Hey Duane,

I don't necessarily disagree what what you say. But what bugs me is the fact that both you and Mark approached Casey - he didn't come looking for you. And I don't believe for a minute you did that (a) out of the goodness of your heart; (b) because you were bored, and didn't have anything to do that day; or (c) as part of your global charity efforts.

However you or I may feel about Casey's mortgage "business", he DID accomplish something rather noteworthy - substantial global publicity. I think that you, Nigel, and Mark all wanted to take advantage of that somehow. Am I wrong? I think all of you showed very poor business judgement in getting involved with someone like Casey - young, uneducated, inexperienced, no track record, shady, etc. etc. I could go on.

The point I'm trying to make here is that anyone who approaches Casey and gets involved with him in any kind of business venture - and subsequently gets thown under the Casey-Bus - has to share a significant proportion of the blame.

Not saying that you aren't a wronged party ... just that it's not all Casey's fault.

Having said that, I think Casey is TOAST. He pissed off the wrong people - namely you, Duane, and Mark - people who are gonna go out of their way to see that Casey is hosed.

This gets more entertaining every day!

I am guessing that the family that drove to Portland to get him and bring him home was either Mom or Mom and Dad. He is also sleeping on their couch. The home he was not welcomed into was his wife's.

The really sad part is their is no cure for sociopath or NPD and mom is resigned to it. She will continue to allow her baby to come home to her home because that is what mom's do.

I am just guessing by the way and I do not even have a solution to offer for this if it is true.

I don't want to disparage anyone's religious beliefs, and I am certainly against divorces. but even the most religious of people will tend to agree that there are 3 good reasons for a divorce:

1) Abuse
2) Adultery
3) Addiction

Casey has very obviously demonstrated that he has a potent addiction. His wife asked, begged, negotiated and demanded that he refrain from certain activities (such as using corporate credit, or even blogging). Casey was so addicted to his lifestyle that he was unable to bear even the slightest withdrawal. She even identified his problem as addiction but Casey couldn't walk away.

Honestly, if Casey can turn everything around, get counselling and go cold-turkey on this debt/get-rich-quick thing, then I could possibly see a future for him and Galina. But his struggle to not chase after the latest "shiny thing" would be a life long one.

That being said, I also believe that (based solely on the info available to the public) Galina has already gone through enough additction-related strife to justify a clean break from Casey.

I'll be honest. If Casey could make amends to his family, get professional help, swear off debt (leaving all borrowing to his wife) and get his life back together, THAT'S a book I'd buy.

The Casey Serin Story: How Empty Promises and Dreams of Wealth Almost Tore my Family Apart. And How I Recovered From It.

(of course, at the time it's published, I'd hope that he had a good job, was pulling down a living wage, and saving diligently)

Is that the reaction of a healthy, mature person? His wife has filed for seperation, that is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE event for most people, that's time to stop the nonsense and start getting real.

Not our Casey. I'll bet his shriveled little black heart is plotting out how much mileage he can get out of this.

Is he beyond redemption? Good question. He's going to have to do some extremely hard work to turn his life around, but it can be done, I've seen people come back from the depths of drug and alcohol addiction. It's not easy, some would say it's damned near impossible.

Could he do it? As it stands right now, I don't think so.

I see Casey whining and sniveling about his upcoming legal problems until the day he's taken into custody, and his first question to the intake officer at the prison he's assigned to is when he can get internet access, so he can blog about it. That's not a joke, i'm serious. He's so far gone, he will see prison as just another way to drive ad revenue. And while in prison, he will learn how to become a better criminal, and be exposed to people who can do some serious harm if he allies with them.

And yes, I do believe he's going to blog himself into a prison cell, it's inevitable.

Although I admit that I've derived a lot of amusement from Casey's story, I think any sane person would have shut down that blog. I can't even take online criticism while I post under a screen name.

I think things started to really spiral downward out of control when Casey reneged on his contract with his wife. I don't even remember what prompted the shutdown of his blog (did he fail to make $1000 that week?), but anyway, he broke a huge promise right there.

2. All new loans are going to have a higher rate to cover these foreclosures. We all will pay this. Tighter credit will cause products to cost more to cover their financing costs.

3. Pension funds are getting hammered on the foreclosures that are just starting. Read about the Ohio State pension funds that are trouble. Old retirees are getting hurt.

4. How many neighborhoods did Snowflake try to blight by not maintaining the properities? Sure did not help keep the market price of the neighbors.

Do me a favor... ask CASEY this ONE question... Did Duane EVER have a profit motive, Did Duane EVER discuss a proftie motive.. Did Duane ever seek publicity on behalf of or through Casey?

I did seek out Casey. I sought to help him. The only exposure we had discussed was that letting our new co, reitv, do a story on HOW not to do things from an investing standpoint. i offered to PAY him a salary. I sponsored HIS site. I got ridiculed, I didnt care. I thought I was doing the right thing then, and I still do. If I was seking the limelight or trying to profit from Casey, why did I continue to speak with him? To try and guide him? All this was BEHIND the scenes. I was hoping.. HOPING.. he would take advice. What i found to be true was that he would dial people until someone agreed with him.

M&P,

You re so right - a normal person would shut down the blog and try to breathe a little life back into their marriage. Not our boy tho, it is COMPELLED to blog about his morning - because that is all it is to him. It is not his future or his life - it is just what happened to him this morning or last night. Another "crazy" thing to blog about. He is desperate for the attention - good or bad. Most "normal" people would curl up into a ball when hit with a legal separation filing. Especially if divorce had not been seriously discussed before.

But not our boy. We all know the selfish little prick had been wanting to "do his own thing" for months. He bled Galina dry and is now bored with the situation. Her debt is no longer his problem - hey, they were HER credit cards, right? - so now it "kinda sucks" that his own wife has changed the locks on the house because he will have to come up with somewhere else to stay. How inconvenient!

I am happy for Galina that she has discovered that this person will never be a man and she can cut her losses now. She was manipulated by this fraudulent flop from the start. He lied to her to get her to date him and lied even more to get her to marry him, then stole everything she had - my old dad would be after him with a shotgun by now.

Denial is extremely powerful. Casey uses it as a tool to block out unpleasant realities. He may have posted that he was not welcome, but he certainly minimized it by saying it "kinda sucked". So I think maybe his motivation was twofold:

1. break the news before Duane and/or Rob can.

2. Troll for the fraudcast. Not that he won't attract a lot of interest already.

Bottom line is, he says he needs to "get more naked" but he's lying. He won't give up any information tonight.

H: Sorry, but that's not even close to the real cause. What's happening in the US housing market currently is the result of an erosion of lending standards in an ill-advised stampede to capture business ... exacerbated by mis-selling of option-ARM products to borrowers who were clearly not appropriate for that kind of loan. Add to the mix low-doc and no-doc products that allow for non-verification of key lending criteria, and you've got a pretty toxic mix.

Someone pass this onto Casey:

How to Deal With Being in Prison

You were accused of a crime and either after a trial or a plea bargain, you were found guilty and sentenced to do time in prison. You will spend most of your time in a locked building with people who have done despicable things, some worse than you can imagine. If you behave, it might go easier on you. Nonetheless, you will have to make the best of it if you are going to survive.

Steps Do not cry, show fear, or a vulnerability publicly. Doing so will quickly make you a target for other prisoners.
Learn to play spades, pinochle, chess, or basketball as it makes the time go by faster.
Get a prison job which will keep you occupied as the days pass by.
Read a lot. They have a library there so use it. Catch up on your reading. Consider taking correspondence courses and continuing your education. Consider writing as well. Letters to friends and family, fictional short-stories, and poetry can make time pass a bit faster.
Work out. It will make the time go by faster, and is an outlet for stress. In addition, physically fit people are less likely to be targeted as victims for strong-arm tactics.
Brace yourself for the social dynamics of prison. There are certain ways to behave towards others if you want to get by:

Do not become a 'punk' (girlfriend). While becoming a punk might give you some fleeting, temporary protection from other inmates, you will be a virtual slave to one. Punks are used and abused. They are traded away in card games and sold for cigarettes. It is not a path to long term survival in prison.

Do not snitch. If you see something illegal or violent, walk away and do not divulge any information if questioned later. Being known as a snitch will make bad things happen to you. (Of course, you have to decide whether your fellow inmates or the authorities are more dangerous. If you're questioned and lie to the jailkeepers, you can get in serious legal trouble.)
Stick up for yourself or you will be turned into a punk. It's better to get into a fight and lose than to be seen cowering or placating. Your reputation is more important than your desire to avoid pain, so guard it with your life.

Ultimately you should avoid any confrontation if you can, but if you can't avoid one, react quickly and with aggression. So swing first. If you happen to get beat down never call for the correctional officers--I repeat, never. Doing so will get you labeled a punk.

Beware of rape. You are more likely to be raped if you have been confined for sexual offenses, especially against juveniles, show any weakness or are even shy, have any feminine characteristics or are younger. Keep quiet about your offence and if you were convicted of a sex crime you will need to go into protective custody, grow a beard and cut that long hair.

Keep to yourself, keep your mouth shut and do not tell anyone about your personal life, family, or criminal history--keep them wondering, but don't overdo it. Do not discuss politics or personal feelings about anyone. In other words, don't put your business out on the street. At the same time, don't get involved in other inmate's business.
Become religious. Inmates tend to treat those always carrying a Holy Book and praying with more respect than others. In addition, many people find a church and belief in a higher power protective and supporting.(In some cases this isn't recomended, use your own judgement if in this situation)

Recognize that nights are the worst. You will miss your family, and freedom. You will probably cry, so stifle it into your pillow so no one will hear.

Tips [edit]Stay in contact with friends and family. Letters, cards and the occasional phone call will really help you maintain your sanity and an active role with your family. You may be out of sight for a while, but there is no reason to stay out of mind.
Tear up the return address from your incoming mail and cover the dial pad when calling home. Other inmates will write or call your friends and family if given a chance.
Don't get caught up in a jailhouse romance. The last thing you need is to be getting involved in a relationship.

Bottom line is, he says he needs to "get more naked" but he's lying. He won't give up any information tonight.

It would be in his best interest for Casey to completely pull himself off of his blog--that would also serve as a way for him to get back at the Haterz as well. He can't stand the Haterz, but he needs them to give him notoriety. He used Marty's 'threat' of legal action for the reason why he broke his promise to his wife.

By the way, am I the only one who is still astounded by how far this story has gone?

Do you remember when:

-He wrote that flyer to try to sell Muncy for $350k, including $9k "for [his] equity"?

-The ill-fated lottery idea?

-He actually thought he was going to work 9 to 5 at his "Rich Dad"s office every day?

-Anon used to write long, elequent and often hilarious posts. Each of which was far more interesting than what Casey wrote? Too bad Anon gave up, just like Tim MBA.

I have to admit that when I first began to walk Casey's trail of tears, I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole went. I thought the story was good for a 3 month run, but wouldn't get renewed by the networks. Like most of you, I figured that Casey's story would end at the same time as his homeownership.

We were all wrong. The question I keep asking is the same question I asked myself the day I presented my wife with a 1.23 carat ring, "How is this ever going to be topped?"

Unlike my jewelery purchase, Casey always has an answer (though it seems more often that it's EN who publishes it).

"I sponsored HIS site."

That's a business relationship.

"Yes, Very, my actions and deeds have said different."

Uh-huh. Like when you wanted to use him to promote REITV?

"Sir, I wasn not trying to go into business with Casey, i was trying to throw a life preserver to someone who was drowning."

Maybe. But I'm not buyin' it.

"Have you EVER heard me say I was a wronged party? EVER?"

Honestly, I don't remember. But you certainly act that way - and that's OK, because I think you ARE a wronged party. Like I said before, if you're gonna go to a clown party, you're likely to get a pie in the face.

Hindsight is 20/20. Are you so perfect that you have never been duped by a liar and manipulator? Point finger sall you want, but neither of them stayed with Casey once they pierced his web of lies and saw that he was not honorable, truthful or moral.

So they got burned. You'd rather rub salt in their wounds, after all this time? Says a lot about you, if that's what you want to do.

Meanwhile, you're playing both sides of the fence here, if the screen name over on IAFF is you. What's YOUR motivation? Hmm? Why are you attacking Mark over there? If you have problems with mark, that's fine, but posting it over there is highly suspicious.

Your "poop in your shoes" antics were fun for a bit, but you are quickly growing tiresome. Pick a side, Sputnick.

Bubba Brigham: that was a cool post. Not sure if it was done in jest (it does seem rather snarkish/trollish) or if that's the way you really feel.

Anyway, Casey destroyed his own marriage in this case. He violated the 'contract' and never gave it a second thought.

Then he flies to Australia on one hour's notice and wonders why everyone is making such a big deal about it.

"1. The housing crash caused by idiots running up prices for cashback."

H: Sorry, but that's not even close to the real cause."

Arguably, it is tied directly into the housing crash. Housing soared, like any other commodity, because demand went through the roof. Demand soared because investors went on a buying spree (home ownership increased by about 1% from 2000 to 2005, so it wasn't first-time buyers driving the market:)
http://www.danter.com/statistics/homeown.htm

Investors flocked to the market because of the ridiculously cheap money and rapidly-rising values (which was fueled by other investors in a destructive cycle).

That alone would have created a bubble, but the bubble was greatly magnified by the increased interest in CDOs, which made it very profitable for banks to issue as many loans as possible, securitize them, and put them on the market. The CDO run was largely pushed by the hedge funds, which began to put large, leveraged, speculative positions on them.

There's plenty of blame to go around, including the home-buyers themselves. Buying a home is not anybody's "right", and no one should put themselves into a financially crippling situation.

So I do think that investors, with their cash-back and speculation, secure one of the major foundations of the current crash.

It's okay, Bubba, Camp Idiot will be back soon, and you can have your playground back, and you can attack minorities and religions and races at will.

2/10 for today's troll. Try doing your homework next time, and try not to use a subject that's been discussed in depth. One point for actually wasting time and energy to post it, and one point for being willing to make a complete ass out of yourself pretending to be on Casey's side.

You might want a new screen name, "Bubba" is hardly creative.

Pick a side ????

Many of us see the world in shades of grey rather than pure black and white. I support what Duane is doing. Helping the family is a perfectly legitimate activity. I do not support what LMP is doing. A frivolous lawsuit against a clearly mentally ill person is as abusive of our courts as Casey's they are to busy to prosecute me. What Rob is doing in providing information and a clearing house to expose Casey I also support. Fanatics who think anyone who is not 100% on their side I do not support.

I sponsored his blog for 1500. I donate 3K every month to a charity or being of my choice. Again, I thought the guy was on the up and up as far as turning it around.

The only motives I had with Casey from a business standpoint were from an SEO sense.

You know.. its people like you who crow about people judging about others... you get that one??

"Hindsight is 20/20. Are you so perfect that you have never been duped by a liar and manipulator?"

Actually, that's never happened to me. But I guess that could be luck.

"Point finger sall you want, but neither of them stayed with Casey once they pierced his web of lies and saw that he was not honorable, truthful or moral."

I'm not pointing fingers ... just amused by all the hypocrisy.

"So they got burned. You'd rather rub salt in their wounds, after all this time? Says a lot about you, if that's what you want to do."

I'm not rubbing salt. I've said that I believe Duane is a wronged party. Mark probably is, too. Casey seems to treat everyone with derision. But people who don't take responsibilty for the consequences of their own actions are no better than Casey.

"Meanwhile, you're playing both sides of the fence here, if the screen name over on IAFF is you."

Yep. It's me.

"What's YOUR motivation? Hmm? Why are you attacking Mark over there?"

Because I think Mark is a punk with a Napoleon complex, and thinks the solution to every problem is to sue someone. What he's doing is a waste of the court's valuable time.

"If you have problems with mark, that's fine, but posting it over there is highly suspicious."

Why?

"Your "poop in your shoes" antics were fun for a bit, but you are quickly growing tiresome. Pick a side, Sputnick."

I don't have to "pick a side". Why do I have to pick a side? This isn't a Good vs. Evil contest - far from it. It's a circus - clowns everywhere!

Duane,

Not trying to be antagonistic, but c'mon already. You sponsored Casey's site because you were trying to throw him a life preserver???? All of the rest of us that had been following his story were filled with disgust by the time you came around. Why on earth did you want to "save" him??? Plenty of other more deserving people in this country that needed saving more than Casey. Even in Marietta, GA.

It is kinda insulting to the intelligence to hear you saying that offering to let him work for you, sponsoring his site and offering to let him do your show do not constitute a business relationship. And if truly doesn't - just what exactly does it constitute?? I am not against you but let's get naked (in caseyism) - and get real.

People do things for profit - why not? What is soo terrible about admitting it? To me I would much rather admit that I approached Casey Serin to make money off of him than to admit I did it because I was trying to "save" him. It sounds a helluva lot more intelligent (and believable),IMO.

I admire the fact that you are trying to help Casey's family - don't get me wrong. Plus you live in my hometown (Walton High School). I think you are have a good heart, but once again, let's keep it real.

Mouse And Pencil said...

@serinitus

Casey's mental health, or lack of it, is speculation on our part, and there is no known diagnosis we know of.

But, to be brutally cold about it, mental illness is no defense from lawsuit, unless diagnosed, and even then, they can be held accountable in a court of law. I don't think any ilness Casey *may* have is enough of a defense for his actions, or enough to have him labeled unfit to defend himself. Even if it were determined that he was unfit for trial, he'd still be incarcerated.

Look, LMP is doing what he thinks he needs to, to stop Casey and Marty in their tracks. UNTIL Casey is diagnosed and treated for mental illness (and that's a HUGE "if"), then this is how it needs to happen. LMP gave Casey every chance to avoid this happening, but he turned the chance down.

Your anger should be directed at Sputnick, who's posting on IAFF - ie. directly supporting someone you think is mentally ill to continue in his harmful behavior. "Pick a side" means STOP SUPPORTING CASEY, regardless if he's mentally ill or not.

Duane,

Who is the fool here? I wasn't the one who got involved with Casey Serin.

And I resent being called ignorant. I could accuse you of the same, based on your slack-jawed-yokel accent and the fact that you thought helping Casey was a good idea. But I'm above that kind of thing.

You accuse Casey of failing to admit his mistakes, yet you refuse to admit your own. You are a hypocrite.

Get over yourself.

Wow, Duane - calling people a fool and telling them they are ignorant because they don't agree with you is .........ignorant.

Why call names? I don't understand - you just admitted in your last post that there WAS a business relationship between you and Casey. Just because it was from a SEO standpoint doesn't make it less of one. I am sure Mother Theresa didn't approach only the lepers that could offer her something in return. What is sooo damn wrong about admitting that you were in it for the bucks??????

Sputnik_the_Cat said...

M&P -

I was making a POINT, but since you didn't get it, I'll explain:

Just because I have a different point of view than Duane, does not mean I am ignorant. And I resent the accusation. It's JUST AS ABSURD as if I were to assume Duane is ignorant because of his accent.

Understand?

Look, I don't want to get in a war with Duane, because (believe it or not) I'm of the opinion that he's a pretty decent guy.

My problem with him is that he just won't admit that he sought out Casey as a means of furthering his business interests, because of the noteriety of Casey's blog.

AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. NOTHING AT ALL.

Just be honest about it, for Chrissake...

I see what you were trying to do, use sarcasm to express an extreme view that you don't actually hold yourself. Though I think the sarcasm was a little too thickly veiled, since it seems that most of us didn't get it on first read.

Always have to be careful in written form. It much harder to correctly express yourself without the subtle tone changes and body gestures that make verbal communication so rich.

I've infuriated more than a few people via e-mail, simply because they didn't get the clue that I was being sarcastic. :)
