My Dandenongs Are Freezing and There Are Icicles On My Pretorian Bits

Both Australia and Southern Africa are the latest victims of global warming. Huge cold spells have affected many regions of the Southern hemisphere this their winter season. Bad things happening? Blame it on your personal boogeyman. For planners that is sprawl. For Socialists, global warming. The formula works everywhere. First you set up a claim that is poorly defined and cannot be proven false. Then you villify anyone who disagrees pointing to their failure to prove you wrong. Feel free to extrapolate to other subjects.

Oz has a north-south rabbit-proof fence across the middle of the country, about 2000 miles long.

How do land-owners feel about you if you leave a gate open? Doesn't matter how they feel. There's millions of acres to bury bodies.

"Looks like the dingoes got them, mate..."

So kc, if you've gone back to Oz, close the gate behind you. Oh! too much responsibility!.

One of my pet peeves with anthropogenic global warming is that ridiculous accuracies in temperature measurement are claimed. The numbers used for historical data series are extrapolations with huge error bars.

Even today modern electronic thermometers typically have an uncertainty of +/- 1 degree C, and that's with regular calibration. So I'm suspicious that a 0.6 degrees C global mean surface temperature rise (over decades) should be used as the basis for legislating our economic activity.

Rob Dawg said...

Tesla,
Add to that the entire NOAA database being unusable. Several years ago I attended an open house at the Oxnard NOAA station. I asked if they were annoyed by having to constantly relocated stations as the urban areas grew. Nope, they just bias the readings to account for heat island effects. The Los Angeles sensor was mentioned as needing as much a 12 degrees F bias to record "true" temperatures.

There's even a problem with paint. Yes, paint. The switch from whitewash to latex paints on the covers appears to have, you guessed it, biased upwards the nighttime readings.

Tesla said...

I stumbled onto a website that tracks official temperature monitoring stations in California:

http://www.norcalblogs.com/watts/

That guy documents A LOT of examples of just what you described. Mainly he finds a lot of urban heat island effects.

Global warming is sort of like algae, in that they are both caused by the sun.

It does not seem fair that "Global Warming" gets both hot and cold. If the earth is getting warmer then you should only get to claim cases of unusual warm weather not cold weather too.

Anytime the weather is random, unpredictable or changing the claim is made that it is global warming. In the past 5 years I had a winter with record high rainfall, one with record low rainfall, one with snow and a winter that had a heat wave. Each time I was told it was global warming. Could it just be that the weather is just always changing.

Tesla said...

roger, you've probably noticed the subtle shift away from "global warming" to "climate change". That way you're covered no matter what, as the climate is always changing.

Unknown said...

I do not claim to know whether or not global warming is true or not, but I do claim to know that some of you are rather ignorant.

Tesla seems to think that because thermometers have a 1 degree error, a conclusion that an average temperature change of less than one degree is meaningless. Take a stats class and try to understand the concept of average.

rogersmith8080 doesn't seem to understand the difference between climate and weather. He also thinks that "someone" telling him that the extremes were caused by global warming means that is what climate researcher are saying.

I certainly don't want to discourage skepticism, but you need to know what in the hell you are talking about first.

Poorly defined; cannot be proven false by Mark without tipping his legal hand and/or revealing more personal information than he cares to; used to vilify Mark and any who support him as vindictive while Casey recasts himself as victim.

The following quote from this source is telling.
Dendrochronology, the study of tree rings, lays out tangible evidence of year-by-year weather conditions stretching back more than 2,000 years. The width of tree rings, reflecting trees' yearly growth, tell of wet or dry conditions.
"Analysis of this record indicates that many droughts, before the advent of the instrumental record, were more severe, more frequent and impacted larger areas," the report states.
"On average, drought contained in the reconstructed ... record (roughly 1,900 years before the instrumental record) was approximately 10.9 years in length compared to the average drought duration of 6.8 years during the last 111 years (instrumental record)."
Other methods of determining past conditions, such as studies of lake sediments, reinforce the conclusion, it says.
"Research indicates that prolonged dry periods have occurred in greater frequency than has been experienced within the past century."
Coupled with evidence of climate change, it adds, episodes similar to past conditions will probably happen again. In other words, there will be droughts that are "more severe and longer duration" than experienced in the past 100 years.

It seems as though the last several centuries were statistically mild.

It is likely that planetary precession and solar cycles have made a greater impact than mankind. Not to say that we aren't an environmental clusterfuck - we are, but one big volcanic event can match our annual CO2 production. And the sun bestows more energy on the planet in hours than our societies use in a year.

That said, we need to pay attention, stop blasting holes in the ozone layer, stop recklessly depleting the fossil fuel bank account, and stop destroying the biological diversity of our planetary home.

Interesting observations. I, too, have had questions about the near-certainty--or rather the attitude of near-certainty--applied to the global warming debate. What, do they have a million buoys out floating in the ocean measuring temperatures?

While there is considerable evidence of climate change, most of the evidence of warming is based on observations of surface changes (e.g. glaciers melting) in the northern hemisphere, and specifically the landmass of the northern hemisphere. Being that the earth is 70% water, with most of that south of the equator, it's very difficult to tell if this is full global warming, or actually a shift in climates--the north heating up while the south cools off, or the landmass heating up while the ocean cools.

I suspect we have a few more twists in the climate change debate before everything is said and done . . . and, of course, pollution is bad, so take the bus, etc. etc.

It doesn't take meta-labeling, or clever little pictures, or setting up a strawman claiming anyone who decries LMP's tactics are both wrong and inherently asking others to prove a negative, to simply read the existing record and observe what one may for one's self.

I, for one, have NEVER claimed any illegality on the part of this particular entrepreneurial bill collector.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, this post isn’t strictly about criticizing Bill Bauer (even though I believe him to be a public menace). Be that as it may, I have filed a complaint with my state AG’s Office (as a friend of the court) against Mr. Bauer and supplied supporting evidence and facts.

The reason being (again, just so no one gets the wrong idea) is because Bauer is violating precepts of the Consumer Protection Act, by offering consumers erroneous and misleading credit repair advice for a fee. An investigation is sure to follow so I’ll leave Bauer’s fate in the hands of authorities, who may or may not take aggressive action immediately (or at all for that matter)...

Careful at throwing stones. Since you bring up statistics, how does pink noise affect the values in statistics and why? Concentrate on averages and variance.

Only true white noise can be averaged out in statistics.

And remember what is said about statistics:
There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics.

You can make statistics say anything, all you have to do is carefully select your dataset.

All we have to do is to consider the source in these personal attacks which are referred to in this thread to understand why they persist.

In case anyone has failed to analyze Anthony's tag line, I would suggest they do so at the earliest possible time.
It is extremely informative and clearly reveals him to be a collector of debts. A bit of reasoning then should lead us to the understanding that his attempt to discredit stem from the likelhood that he is in here spreading his hate and discontent for the sole purpose of attacking and discrediting those who might possibly have gained enough skills to make his efforts to collect for his clients more difficult if not in some cases impossible.

He isn't stupid, he's just trying to make sure there are no thorns in his bed of roses.

He'd like to make us think he's not selling anything and just offering his "professional" advice because he's a good guy. He's even had the temerity to state that he hates to see the little guy get bit, all the while doing all he can to keep them from gaining some modicum of defense against the venom he spits out when he goes about his true business of snatching up all of their assets he can via his collection efforts on behalf of his clients.

Mr. Nice Guy indeed!

Marty goes on and on about site traffic and how important it is to keep the blog open. "You can easily pull 50, 60 thousand out of your blog every year."

The interesting thing is Casey acts as if he has no idea who he is, even though this talkcast was held 4 weeks after the agreement was signed.

BZ you should've actually read what I wrote before talking trash.

I did not say that a change of less than 1 degree is insignificant. You're obviously having trouble with the concept of "error bars". They're these things that quantify how certain a data point is. And the error bars in the commonly quoted temperature rise are much larger than the listed temperature rise. Which means that there is little certainty in the 0.6 C temperature rise figure that is listed everywhere. Hope this helps.

But you asked me: "...if he takes Fliptard down a few notches, it'sallgood, ain't it?"

I know your tongue was a little in cheek there using a Casey-ism, and I also am hugely aware of the potential for hypocrisy for anyone watching this thing to try to establish any sort of moral high ground, but NO, dammit, I do *not* think it is all good, as long as a thing causes Casey discomfort. I hope they bury that scum bag unrepentant, lying scum bag of a multiple mortgage fraudster up to his eyeballs in a fireant hill on the lawn of one of his dilapidated former houses. But what leg do we have to stand on to see him punished, if the means by which he is ensnared are not above board themselves? Caution -- I am NOT saying LMP has done anything illegal.

But you asked me what my beef is with him. It is pretty simple: I am *not* going out of my way to 'get' the LMP. It appears most folks think that for some reason, and that is their right based on what they believe. But all I am doing is taking NOTE of his current and past practices, actions and words, so that the impression they formed in my own mind can perhaps be shared with others.

IF I read correctly, he has claimed his business model is to stand between the creditor and the debtor, and to potentially receive remuneration from both parties, and to not necessarily disclose to the debtor that he has any such relationship with the creditor. I have no legal knowledge to form a judgment as to the rightness of that in a legal sense, but you can bet it does grate me at a core level to think that someone could insinuate themselves into such a position as a normal course of their business. That forms the 'basis' of my dislike, and when you add on top of that, what appears to me to be PARTICULAR bullying tactics he has used to nearly extract a business, book, and website out of a person on the basis of a supposed libel that simply, AFAIK, did not ever occur, well, that certainly does not endear him to me.

He appears as a swaggering schoolyard bully in his writings and approach, IMHO. IF his deal with Casey was pro bono, why not just cut out when it did not work? And what did he expect to get? He and Duane have both claimed humanitarian motives, but both have ALSO acknowledgedd that at various times, they were in line to get something of value -- whether it was the site, a book, or sweet links, media, publicity, referals, etc.

Is it possible things are not at all as they appear? Sure. That's why I am glad this apparently did not change ownership without the court's inspection of the "Deal" -- that would make me feel a bit more sanguine if it is seen by them, not just signed over by Casey with the bluster meister yelling at him.

IS Casey nearly insufferable? Yes. does he take advantage, and does he ignore contracts routinely? It appears so. Would I hate to see him get some rough justice? Nope. But I am not going to endorse something I find completely distasteful at best in order to see Casey feel a sting.

Well, hope that provided some sense of my own very personal take, that I do not insist others follow or even agree with.

Akubi said...

As do I, Segfault.

Oh, and all this: "Buying the site only to turn it around to put it in trust to place monies in escrow to forward to Galina..."

I think Duane is a decent guy. Someone said he is about the only major player who has not been caught in a bald-faced lie at some point in the saga, and that seems about right to me.

But I have a message for him, for LMP, for all the supporterz™ and Haterz™ everywhere -- if you wanna help Galina, you march your azz over, you thrust an envelope with a little cabbage in it into her hand, and you RAPIDLY walk your azz out of there. Or you post it anonymously to her in the mail.

So can we PUHLEASE get the whole 'helpin' Galina" disentangled from all the other book, website, and other business maneuverings that people are trying to swing?

C.S.Lewis described it best in "The Screwtape Letters",BTW.

Two kinds of people do business with Casey...those utterly naiive of his nature, and those profoundly aware of it.

In LMP,(and myself),he perhaps had the misfortune to meet two who are more the latter than the former.

Galina? The Toilet Scrubber is no more than a vulnerability to him...a "guilt spear" with which to bayonet the Hobbit's heart.

She "went along to get along",she'll "go along" again. She'll do fine...or she won't.

Why should I care more about her life than she has appeared to?

If Shitflake had made millions, she would not have asked where the money came from...believe it.

Your mention of Kafka set in motion a parallel train of thought while I was percolating the above.

I assume you were referring to "The Metamorphosis"?

SHARKY-

You have some serious fucking issues, possibly more than Casey. It is just a sad day when mentally ill people like you fall through the cracks of society and wander aimlessly endangering everyone else wishing you could shoot complete strangers in the face. That is just sad man!!! SERIOUSLY!

Anonymous said...

Seek help buddy! Your obsession is way too deep, and well... quite frightening to say the least. I can not believe (really I cant)that it is so easy for you to spew such hatred that I fear for the people that live around you in real life. If you threaten and wish you could shoot some "haterz" that you do not even know in the face what do you do in "Real" life?

Bilgeman said...

Whatever:

"You have some serious fucking issues, possibly more than Casey."

Yes,undoubtedly...thank you. Your opinion is so very important to me.

"...people like you fall through the cracks of society and wander aimlessly endangering everyone else wishing you could shoot complete strangers in the face."

Don't ever, ever look beyond the surface representations of your happy little world.

There really ARE monsters under the bed,y'see.
In act, there may very well be one in bed next to you.

At all costs, and against all evidence, maintain your fantasy that everyone is a "shiny, happy people" right down to their core.

It simply wouldn't do for you to all of a sudden realize that you live among vicious and clever packs of chimpanzees...and there are not many cages, and even fewer keepers.

Because if you ever entertained THAT notion, you might be tempted to look in a mirror...

Soem Dood -

I fully agree with your sentiments on Mark, very nicely put.

He is a bully. He "wins" by picking targets who cannot fight back. To date, he has sued a non-profit and Casey. Wow, I'm impressed. What comes next, beating up a third grader?

I'd love to see Casey stapled to the wall, he is scum. This does not make Mark a good guy for going after him though - his motives are suspect at best. He still refuses to say where the $1,500 comes from - that is far in excess of his actual costs for the case.

If he were truly in this to "help Galina", he would NOT be pulling a profit out of the money that would be going to her.

Youre sick man, and you cant hide that through clever monster and chimp diatribes. Please seek treatment, prozac now comes in a once a week pill I heard, even easier for you to remember to take. Do us all a favor, especially for yourself and those around you. Then take a deep breath, wash your dirty face and put on some clean clothes and find a hobby that doesn aggrivate your hostility.

Actually, Shark; method to my madness... Silence being part of my fiendish master-plan to feed over fertile imaginations that obviously run amuck based on tiny bits & fodder, fragments to the pieces of a puzzle.

But that’s what a “schoolyard bully” does, right? Or does he hide behind false security taking pot-shots at those less timid, spouting moral indignities through distorted views? (I can never get those straight.)

"...]b]hide behind false security taking pot-shots..."

Let me take some time to make one quite significant point about your not-so-veiled threat. I won't repeat this information, because I know you read this board, and once will suffice.

YOU insinuated yourself into a public, ongoing affair, with a stated intent to become a participant and actor on the issues, for reasons of your own. As you did that, you already knowingly refered to your own personal, as well as your corporate identity. Being familiar with the web and this situation, you knew full well that curious minds would seek out public information to complete the picture of this new participant. You even filled legal papers against a principal. You have used your own name in VERY spookily similar activities in past.

Enough on your own position, let me outline mine:

I am merely a trainwreck watcher, making commentary on sites set up specifically for that purpose. I have no slandered, libeled or made false claims. I am not hiding. I am maintaining an existing position of anonymity, as is my right.

I, unlike Casey, WILL eagerly engage an attorney when cause presents itself, WILL use that attorney vigorously, and will not be bullied or squelched by threats intended to keep me from presenting germane and publicly available facts on an issue of moment. I also am aware of my rights, and leaving aside your own laughable jumble of pseudo-legal advice dispensed with most threats, I have do the right to both speak, and to protect my anonymity.

Should I discover that myself or other person who has done nothing but observe has had the methods of people like, say, bill collectors use, applied improperly to ascertain personally identifying information (IPs, names, addresses, etc) I will take aggressive, sustained, and forceful legal action against anyone improperly cyberstalking me for my public and legally protected commentary on events of the day.

I hope that is plain enough.

I don't mind if in response to this you prattle on about double standards, ad geese and ganders, and such. I fully expect you to.

But you move a finger to use tools of the trade or improperly justified legal measures to uncover identities of those engaged in simple commentary, you will indeed be held to account.

Have a terrific day.

Hear, hear! I agree completely, Soem Dood. Mark/Anthony Villasenor, it shows a sad state of your mental affairs that you think your absence is lending itself to imaginations gone wild. What a world of fantasy you live in! I hate to tell you this - you did not cross my mind once yesterday - can you believe that??? I too, would employ any legalities necessary to insure that you and your tactics do not encroach upon the rights of myself or for that matter, any of the commenters here. There is a reason that all of us - with the exception of you and Duane - post anonomously. This is a mere diversion for us - it is not our lives.

As for "false security" - many of us here employ real live attorneys with real live law degrees to handle our affairs. The particular team that I retain would love to have you to use as a chew bone for the afternoon. I see your post was written very late at night - did you wake up with a start realizing just what a fool you look like to thousands of people that have read your uneducated take on how the legal system works? Did you suddenly realize that many of the people here think you are a pompous windbag for the way you try to present yourself?? That your name and reputation are forever damaged by this 5 minutes of questionable fame? And that isn't a pot shot buddy - it is the plain truth.

The only one living under an illusion of false security is you. Cause it sure as hell ain't me.

@ lawnmower man,

I tried to log onto CH.c to remind Honestly Wondering that we are getting together this Sat the 21st at 801 N. Orange, time 7;30 PM for a Casey HaterZ meet up. ALL are invited.
I promised him I would post yesterday and wanted him to post the invite to the other CH.c Forum members that live in Orlando.

I also wanted to shamelessly solicit 'votes for me' in the 6 degreez to Casey Serin and Jason Vorhees game.

The sight would not let me log in.

Could you get in touch with Honestly Wondering?

Sharky/Akubi,

I haven't read any Kafka but I remember a comic book version of Metamorphosis from my days at UCLA, where Charlie Brown got turned into a giant cockroach. It was quite amusing, if you haven't seen it, and would probably be even more amusing for people who've read Kafka.

LMP is correct and I am rooting for him. Keep the powder dry and see what happens.

When this soap opea started, Snowflake only thought about himself.

He ignored everyone. Even the ones that sucked up to the little dirtbag.

Then he decided to take trips as "everything is crazy".

But while gone, people started rearranging things. Sock drawers are funny, but relationships are not eh Casey??

Australia was a perfect example.

He doesn't run the game anymore. And if folks here don't show their hand early, he has no clue what is going to happen while on this trip. All the sudden it is not so good.

Heck, if we are lucky, it may even stop him from noticing a shiney thing or two as he wonders what it all means.

Soon enough he will be muttering Sundance's line
"Who are those guys??"

Last week he was thrown a life perserver and decided he didn't need it.

As far as I am concerned:
Hey, game on for that arrogant bastard.

Vacant pools have new residents
County officials battle mosquito breeding ground

The rising number of foreclosures in San Joaquin County is giving rise to something else - more mosquitoes, which love to make larvae in "green" pool water at vacant homes.

"A bad neighborhood not being taken care of can produce a lot of mosquitoes," said Aaron Devencenzi, spokesman for the San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control District.

That is a big issue because of the threat of the West Nile virus, which is spread by mosquitoes. One of the nine human cases of West Nile virus infection reported statewide this year was in San Joaquin County.

WTF does this have to do with anything? The poster made a specious observation that revealed a lack of understanding of basic statistical concepts.

It has EVERYTHING to do with it. Averaging compounds errors when the data sample has pink noise. It reduces errors when the sample has white noise. Evidently you don't know statistics, or only know statistics from a layman's point of view QED.

And remember what is said about statistics:
There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics.

I usually hear this uttered by people who don't know anything about statistics.

Or know enough about statistics to make them say anything they want.

BJ said...

@BZ

The comments above was in respect to your statement on statistical averaging.. which only works well with respect to white noise.
